Ok so I'm one who is pleased with immigrants working in U.K but if they're going to work front of house they need to speak and understand English. I ordered a J20 for my Aunt and the waitress had no idea what I wanted. Some time later she had to send someone else, who then said they didn't have it... More

I stayed here on business and looked at the rooms shown on the Web and was not stunned by the £116 room only rate. On reaching the room I thought I must be in the wrong hotel! Room 123 is pokey, has no desk and the shower (there is no bath) though spacious has awful flow. The furnishings are no... More

Firstly we arrived on possibly one of the busiest days of the year for the Christmas Markets. The concierge staff were ready to park our car as soon as we arrived and within minutes we were settled into our beautiful room. We had been upgraded to room 224 and it is just wonderful, quirkily decorated with a huge copper bath.... More

Staff excellent, friendly, helpful could not do enough to make our stay more enjoyable. Breakfast hot, well cooked and tasty. Great location in the centre of the town and ideal for the Christmas activities. Porters were especially helpful - car parking, luggage carrying, local knowledge etc. Had a room at the rear which was nice and quiet.

Ths Angel is superbly located right in the centre of Bury St Edmunds. The parking by the Angel staff is just amazing, and the whole staff at the Angel we found to be so very friendly. We had lunch and breakfast at the Angel, and the food can only be described as beyond our expectations for a hotel, catering for... More

Very nice lunch served by compitent staff all at reasonable prices, overall excellent value for money. The only problem was the reluctance of reception to take a booking, whilst it worked for us,we had to be knocking at the door at 12:15 to get a table we would have preferred to have been able to book.

We recently stayed as this hotel which is very atmospheric, does have wonderful quirky features and very comfortable bedrooms & bathrooms. However, we feel that we paid way over the odds for our one night stay and expected our room to have a view at the price we paid - appalled that breakfast not even included so had to go... More

Please see all my previous reviews when you read this. Having had a really nice meal on Remembrance Sunday we decided to rebook lunch for the following Sunday and asked if table 45 would be available in the window. I was asked to book at reception. informed that it was I duly booked it. On arrival I was told that... More

The hotel is in a very good location. The staff were extremely upbeat and helpful. The breakfasts were of a good standard. We attended a set dinner event so couldn't comment on the general menu. What we ate was tasty and fresh. The Wingspan Bar is 'cosy' but the low ceailings made hearing difficult when it was busy. Avoid the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This Georgian ivy clad 4 star boutique hotel and restaurant in Suffolk surprises with a twist of urban chic. Our Suffolk hotel is right in the heart of Bury St Edmunds town centre and everything is just a step from here. Explore winding, cobbled, shop filled streets and a plethora of ancient architecture on the doorstep. Once inside, The Angel Hotel is a curious contrast of comfy contemporary design with touches of exotic grandeur. Warm leather sofas vie for your company in the lounge, which is filled with curiosities, pop art, eccentric oddities and cool vintage furniture. It is a hotel of many different aspects all artfully blended together into an exciting package and the bedrooms are no exception. The Angel Eaterie has a great reputation and dining here is a culinary treat. Take the steps down into the decadently curious Wingspan Cocktail Bar & Lounge located in the 12th Century vaults under the Hotel. Wingspan is the perfect location to meet with friends, for pre-dinner drinks, or simply to relax after a long day. ... more   less
