I travel for work. They pick up the tab. This is extremely expensive. £175 a night on last stay. The staff are very good, very friendly and helpful. However not the staffs fault, poor Wi-Fi in rooms. I'm here for work. I have to tether a phone in the room, this has happened in virtually every room l've stayed in as the wifi drops out. I had better internet in west Africa, a decade ago! Service charges on everything. Even a single drink. This is annoying I’ve never been in other hotels and had to pay an extra 10% just for a singe drink. Yet on a multi day stay, the hotel does not always top up the coffee etc! After a day at work you have to go ask for coffee! Even after paying £175 a night. The rooms are starting to look tired. The TVs are very outdated and show a code for sky movies, that simply doesn't work and I’ve never been able to get it to work. Perhaps this is an extra?Doesn’t say that on the card though. Simply 0000 for sky movies. Channel unavailable. This hotel is used a lot for business. Sort out the internet, we are in 2024, not 2004. It's virtually impossible to work from the room. Loud noise coming from outside the hotel. You’ll need air plugs depending on which room you are in!

Stayed as a mixture of business and pleasure. Dined in first night and then room service the second. Both meals enjoyable. Good base to explore other areas of Suffolk and rail links to Cambridge, Bury St. Edmunds and beyond. Comfortable rooms with useful facilities, good gym and pool.

Celebrating an anniversary you really do want somewhere special. Staying at the hotel for the weekend and eating/drinking somewhere with a reputation for luxury and indulgence. On this occasion the Bedford Lodge fell well short of this reputation. Living in Suffolk I know the BL well and have dined there many times. But, I've never stayed the weekend and had that immersive experience before. The afternoon tea was really 'nothing special'. Considering the rise in popularity the BL are competing for the afternoon tea 'purse' and given the opportunity I would not pay these prices again. Scones were delicious though as was the sausage roll. BUT the cakes lacked any real taste and the rest of the afternoon tea, frankly tasteless and boring. I would definitely look for an alternative venue if it's afternoon tea you're looking for. Atmosphere doesn't disappoint. BL still has that luxury feel. Staff lacked an attentiveness (but were very pleasant), the level of service wasn't there and value for money was extremely poor. BL won't be able to trade for long on their reputation. Seriously the food MUST speak for itself. Our room was again 'nothing special' and the little luxuries (nice towels, a robe and Moulten Brown bath things) did not make up for the shockingly poor mattress and thin pillows. Really a Premier Inn would have been much better and not only that but a third of the price. At £185 a night I definitely will NOT be staying again. When we gave our feedback on checkout there was no glimmer of empathy or any kind of remedial offering. Almost like they're getting that feedback all the time and don't wish to do anything about it. Breakfast in bed WAS a lovely touch though. That we did like a lot! On Sunday we opted to have lunch in the restaurant. Again very disappointing. It arrived luke warm, roast potatoes were horrible. Really not sure what cooking method was used for those but they were like rocks, really unpleasant. I've had better roast dinner's in pubs and not spending £20 for a plate. Service was lacking (though it wasn't that busy), no one came to ask if everything was OK, if they had I'd have shared that our food wasn't hot enough. While the waitress did make a gesture of good will when we gave our feedback it really wasn't enough to compensate. Despite its rosette's and reputation the Bedford Lodge fell well short. I won't be spending the weekend there again.

Room Tip: Don't spend your money on a night here. Chose a cheaper hotel. The extras aren't worth the cost.

Lovely grounds. Plenty of parking. Lovely hotel & staff. Room very clean & spacious with a nice garden view. Facilities in room top quality especially bedding which was luxurious. Large TV with Sky Movies free. Gym was compact but had plenty of very good modern equipment. Pool/Sauna & changing areas very good especially when you find yourself sat next to Bob Champion winner of the 1981 Grand National on Aldanti in the sauna & is a regular. Had bar meal burger which was exceptionally good & worth every penny of its £21 price tag. Beers not overpriced for a hotel & good wine list but pricey. Breakfast was also to a very high standard with lots of choice. Overall a fantastic stay & would highly recommend if looking for somewhere special to stay in Newmarket.

A mixed bag The thing which let the hotel down was the service in the bar. We had lunch in the bar on Saturday, 2 sandwiches and a bowl of chips, cannot really go wrong. The chips were forgotten off the order, no apologies at all, took forever to send the chips back out and in meantime we had eaten half our lunch. Chips arrive, no sorry re the mistake or wait. No sauces, asked for sauces twice, did not arrive, again no sorry, eventually sauce arrived as we had finished the chips. Got the bill to find out a 10% service charge was on the bill for this terrible service. Two other tables at lunch had issues with their food being incorrect, including the BLT sandwich which came with no bacon!! Is this really four stars. Thought we would give the bar another go in the evening for a drink, paid £11.50 for a glass of red wine which was served in a white wine glass despite red wine glasses being used. Again, charged service charge for this overpriced wine in the wrong glass. For a hotel which prides itself on service and high level you would think they would know how to serve wine. Stayed at the hotel but you had to use your bath towels from the hotel room in the swimming pool. This was lovely getting back from the pool in winter and wanting a nice shower, but with a soaking wet towel stinking of chlorine. Add in the cold shower and no hot water, not a great stay and would not recommend.

This is our favourite hotel, we've been quite a few times especially last year, it's a little bit of luxury with the most helpful and friendly staff who went out of their way to make our stay special. Also, a special thanks to the excellent and professional bar staff who solved a personal problem at dinner. We are already planning a return visit in May.

My husband and I stayed for my 50th birthday. Just an overnight visit in a very comfortable king room. Bed was very good and view over the horse training centre was lovely. Really liked the Molten Brown toiletries and bath was fine(shower a little lacklustre) but all clean and tidy. We enjoyed the Health suite facilities of: a good sized pool, steam room, sauna and hot tub. Changing rooms were excellent and the lady that cares for this area was so friendly and was constantly ensuring a very high standard of cleanliness. We enjoyed lunch in the bar and dinner in Squires restaurant (excellent steak) and both times were meet by a very hospitable and friendly member of the team whom I think was called Liam (apologies if that is wrong). I loved the chairs in both areas-so comfortable and the ambiance in both areas is calming and relaxing. Thank you to everyone at The Bedford Lodge. We highly recommend a stay at this superb hotel.

We stayed in a Superior Junior Suite which was very spacious and comfortable. However it was quite noisy throughout the night, possibly due to the outlet for the heating system being just outside our room. Breakfast was excellent, though the service was rather slow. The hotel has three accessible bays, though two of these were occupied throughout our stay by cars which were not displaying blue badges. The receptionist was informed about this at 5pm on the day we arrived and agreed to do something about it. However the cars were still there when we left the following morning.

Went here as a treat i bought my new Husband as his wedding Gift we did the jump for January deal and the venue was more then i could have wished for the rooms are lovely. We used the pool which could have been warmer but the jacuzzi and the steam rooms are really good. Not much seating around the pool area though. The food is the best we have had we could not recommend the steaks enough they were amazing and breakfast the next morning was also lovely thank you for making this trip really nice.

Spent New Year's Eve at Bedford Lodge and had a lovely room in the Mews - very well equipped, clean, quiet, comfortable, and the shower was just fabulous. Breakfast was also excellent with some interesting and different dishes offered. We also attended the NY's Eve dinner event which was generally well organised and which we very much enjoyed. Food was plentiful (almost too much so - there were huge sharing dishes of potatoes and carrots almost untouched on our table, given that all the main courses were already served with potato and veg) and mostly pretty good. The piper at midnight was a nice touch. Perhaps less well thought out was the serving of haggis, neeps and tatties at midnight since there didn't look to be too many takers given that dinner had only finished around 10.00 pm. Furthermore, whilst the potatoes and swede were fine the haggis had neither the consistency nor the taste of any haggis I've had before, whether meat or vegetarian, and was frankly quite unpleasant. A glass of prosecco or cava would have been nice, as an alternative, but I guess that might have had a negative impact on bar takings. Overall, though a very enjoyable stay.
