I was going to write an average review for this hotel, however after accidentally leaving my GHD hair straighteners in the room then to be told they were not found by house keeping nor in the room I am extremely disappointed. Yes it is my responsibility to remember my belongings and I am very annoyed with myself but more upset and sad that there is someone being dishonest there!!

We found this hotel to be excellent value. The rooms are modern and spacious, the beds are comfortable along with the pillows. We were in a room above the restaurant but we weren't bothered by noise, in fact we found the hotel to be quiet in general and we were not bothered by any external noise such as the road. The staff are friendly and helpful and you get a bottle of water per guest in the room along with tea and coffee which was great. Would highly recommend. It is walkable to town, we got an uber back at the end of the evening which was around 6 to 7 pounds

Have used before and will use again. Good value when on a good rate, excellent restaurant onsite. Clean, friendly and decent. Only downside this trip was other guests having a major argument in the corridor in the early hours, although it passed quickly.

Pleasant hotel within walking distance of the city centre, beware though the walk back is quite steep. Also note that they do not serve any pork at breakfast. Ok for 1 night stay, underfloor heating in the rooms is a bit difficult to control (there are controls in the room) but if you're not familiar with it it maybe an issue.

We have stayed numerous times at this hotel, this was however the first time since it changed to The Balmoral Hotel and has been revamped. We were in Room 104 on the first floor over Reception / Hotel Guests to Restaurant Entrance. The hotel has had all the carpets replaced by laminate flooring which makes it echo / noisy in corridors rooms have under floor heating making it warm to the feet (too hot in the room by morning). There was a single rug on one side of the bed that was so old and threadbare it was basically the rug hessian backing you were walking on one corner, where it had been under an item of furniture during its long life, you could make out the colour and pattern it originally had - nice as a 'feature'? not in a revamped hotel. The room and bathroom were clean less for the floor which walking around without shoes on we kept feeling bits of 'grit' (?) that we kept picking up and dust, appeared not to have been hoovered. Avoid Room 104 to avoid the noise from below and the front door!!! From 11:30 pm - 12:30 am the fro 07:00 am onward we heard 'bang, bang' from the front door which is a large heavy wooden door the closes with a double bang, the door wasn't the real culprit it was the staff from Akbar's either going out (bang, bang) to make calls on mobile phones below our window then coming back in (bang, bang) or leaving (bang, bang). The bang, bang started again at 07:00 as staff arrived or guests left. We also heard furniture being dragged around below us around 07:30. Never had noise issues there before, but not a good nights stay in Room 104…

Stayed here many times when it was the Ryokan Hotel. My only complaint then was that the TVs in the room were way too small. This has now been addressed and there are 40" TVs in the room - so much better as the rooms are a very good size. Previously on site there was a fabulous Indian restaurant called LuigiKhans - this has now closed and when i stayed (17th Oct) the new restaurant (Akbars) is in the process of renovations - a nd should be open for my next visit in November. Although the hotel is not in the heart of the city it is only a 10 - 15 min walk downhill to all the centre (bit of a trek back as it is uphill - especially after a few beers :D) For the price I paid it was excellent value - other hotels in the city were twice the price - PLUS the Balmoral offers plenty of free parking, others in the city you have to pay for. Check in staff friendly and helpful. bed comfy, very quiet and internet perfect for watching Netflix etc.…

Been for the weekend to watch the Rugby League, fantastic hotel, brilliant location for St James park, a 10 minute walk away. About 10/15 minutes walk into the town centre. Would definitely recommend this hotel, looks like it has had a refirb. They are opening a Akbars restaurant, not open at the moment, still doing it up. Breakfast was lovely my other half had a full English, I had the Eggs Benedict, would recommend the breakfast.

The hotel is just outside of the city centre, but is only a 10-15 min walk away. Its is on a main bus route and is ideal for access to the football stadium. The staff were friendly and the room exceeded our expectations for the price paid. The hotel can get hot, so some guests may need a fan. There were many parking spaces that were free for guests, which is a nice pull to stay here. Breakfast was ok, it could've been warmer but was presented lovely. We would've liked the option of having pork sausages/bacon/ham on our breakfasts. We understand these may have been omitted for religious purposes as the hotel restaurant (Akbars) appears to be Asian owned/run, but not every paying guest is religious so i feel that having that option would've been better for the guests. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and we were greeted upon check-in with a friendly smile and left after check out with the receptionists well wishes. We would stay here again and would also recommend the hotel to friends and family. …

Hotel Balmoral is a nice place to stay on the outskirts of the wonderfully vibrant city centre of Newcastle. The hotel is a twenty-minute walk from the city centre, railway station, bus exchange, shopping district and the centre of the nightlife however by warned this is a steep uphill climb in places, so consider taking the direct bus (numbers 10, 11 and 38) from the city and station which drop directly the road outside the hotel (single adult fare £1.80). There is a large car park in front of the hotel. The welcome at the hotel was superb, the rooms large and well appointed with all you require for a comfortable stay including a good powerful shower and an up-to-date television. The whole hotel was wonderfully clean. There is a lift to all floors. During my stay, I experienced issues with the Wi-Fi which despite efforts was not resolved until after my departure. Did any other guests experience these issues? The hotel does not at present have a bar or restaurant but you can purchase drinks from reception to take to your room. An Indian Restaurant Akbar’s is apparently opening soon. They offer breakfast but what it consists of I am not sure.…

Under new ownership now called hotel balmoral, looks new, lovely service at check in and check out, breakfast was lovely, price was great, room was big spacious and lovely.
