The Britannia Hotel Newcastle Airport offers the convenience of being close to the airport, a benefit frequently highlighted by guests. However, some travelers have expressed concerns over the outdated decor and the overall atmosphere, suggesting a need for modernization. While opinions on room cleanliness and comfort are mixed, with notable issues of odor and maintenance mentioned, the hotel's location continues to be a major draw.
Service quality varies, with both praise for staff and notable instances of dissatisfaction. Guests also find value in the parking packages, although the amenities and food have received less favorable feedback.

Detailed Reviews
I appreciate that the staff are doing their best at this hotel under very difficult circumstances in the current climate.
Positives
Parking location fab
Staff super friendly and helpful
Negatives
Room had awful smell
Unable to open window
Bed uncomfortable
Very dated
Disgusting rubber bath mat
Cigarette ends all over the entrance with a number of people hanging around who didn’t seem to be people going or returning from holiday. I did wonder if possibly this hotel is helping with people who need temporary accommodation.
On asking what time breakfast was served - informed it was a bag for breakfast to be requested from reception. This is still being sold on various websites to include English breakfast which I was looking forward to. The bag provided along with a coffee and bacon sandwich was generous along with the contents in the bag but I think people would prefer to know this in advance.
People going about the hotel all night, no sound of suitcases? A number of ‘characters’ wandering around the bar on the night I arrived and smoking outside in the morning.
As a female travelling alone, I did not feel safe in this hotel. While the price was good for the parking, the state of the room and other concerns that I had mean that unfortunately, I would not stay here again.

My wife and I stayed one night before flying out of Newcastle airport. The car park was packed and getting into a space is not easy as the bays are small and the roadway narrow.
The public areas are clean and tidy and staff are very pleasant and welcoming. We had booked DBB and the food was good, not a wide choice but most people would find something. The bar was OK and prices very good, however tea and coffee were cheap and nasty.
The room we had was small and clean but in need of refurbishment. The bathroom had some black mould around the bath area and the mirror had lost some of its silvering. In the morning there was no hot water so we ended up boiling kettles of water to get washed. The bed was the hardest and most uncomfortable I have ever come across.
The location is good for the airport which is just a few minutes walk/drive.
The price is very good and if you leave your car there for your holiday it’s very good value. However I would not leave my vehicle there as the cramped car park would mean the chances of it being damaged on return are increased.
The cramped car park, poor rooms and awful bed spoil what is otherwise a good hotel.

Hi 919GrahamL Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that your room was not adequate for you during your stay with us. Regarding our car park, we do have over 300 car parking spaces that are situated to the front and rear of our building. I do understand that guests like to park as close to the entrance as possible, however, to the rear of our hotel the parking spaces are more spacious due to them being a more recent attachment to the hotel. We do hope that you will stay with us again soon. Kind regards On behalf of the Cluster General Manager.

The hotel is quite tired and for the price, my standard double room was small. Curtains were hanging loose from the rail, bathroom floor was cracked and the bath was dirty. The week before I stayed here, I stayed in the Premier Inn about 2 mins walk away for less money - it was much, much nicer and much better value for money. Go there if staying at the airport.

Booked a single night stay online at relatively short notice, prior to an early morning flight out from the airport. The room rate was very competitive and when pre-booked with a dinner and breakfast package it provided excellent overall value. Our room was perhaps on the small side but well suited for our one night stay and included the usual facilities that would be expected.
Staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel location on the airport meant a simple five minute walk to the terminal or two minute drive to long term parking.

A group of four of us came to The Brittania for the weekend to partake in a dance workshop in the ballroom. We were all feeling a tad apprehensive about staying overnight in these pre-covid times. But we shouldn't have. The rooms were super clean with everything from the remote to an added sweet gift bagged up with a sticker that stated everything was sanitised. At breakfast time we saw the normal shared juice and milk jugs have been replaced with individual cartons/bottles for everyone and the "lumpy bumpy fudge cake" was to die for. The staff were so friendly and helped with any questions I had. Plus I overheard them giving another guest some reassurance on their safety regulations that really helped put the guest at ease. Overall, I would happily stay here again. I read a comment saying the rooms were outdated but mine was just great with crisp white sheets and not a speck of dust to be found.

Having used the hotel and parking previously for our holiday and having a great experience we decided to book again big mistake.
As we had an early morning flight we decided to get an early night only to be awoken by very noisy guests arguing in the next room. We went down to reception to complain and this was sorted quickly.
On returning from holiday we went to our car to find this damaged it had been hit by another car. I went to reception and reported this. At first the young girl on the desk was not going to come and have a look until another member of staff advised her she would need to take photographs.
They advised they would review the CCTV footage and get back to us however after not hearing anything for 2 days I gave them a call to be told they were unable to identify the other car that was responsible.
I explained as the car was in there care surely they would take some responsibility to be told no you park at your risk. Bit annoyed as you pay to park there and for them to take care of your vehicle.
I even asked if they would be willing to cover the excess on insurance as a gesture, they are unable to this.
My insurance company asked me to get there insurance company details to enable them to pursue a claim on our behalf which the manager provided. He also explained we signed a waiver before we left. Which I did not know anything about. It should have been made more clearer to us.
Lesson learned will not be using hotel again and advised anyone using this hotel to read all terms and conditions.

Dear higgier, Thank you for your review, we are really disappointed with a 1 star review from a regular visitor to the hotel. We are very sorry that your car was damaged whilst on hotel premises, once this was reported I personally viewed footage to see if I could find the offending vehicle which could then be reported to the police and relevant footage handed over to the police. When checking into the hotel all guests are asked to complete a parking form, at the bottom of the form there is an important notice section which highlights that whilst we have security measures in place i.e. CCTV and barrier system we do not accept liability for damage. We also have signage around the car park advising this. I understand you are frustrated due to the damage by another vehicle however, we have thousands of vehicles use our car park each year and very few incidents resulting in damage that isnt reported by offending driver. We do hope that you would reconsider and stay in the future. Kind regards, Dean Routledge Cluster General Manager

What a very pleasant experience with the night staff on reception and a total contrast to the shambolic treatment I had received by Easy Jet when they cancelled my flight! I booked a room online and turned up at reception 12 minutes later at 11.40pm, check in was smooth and when I asked if they had a vending machine for food, the young man in the office behind the desk came out and said he would make a cold sandwich from the menu. Five minutes later two freshly made sandwiches arrived and greatly appreciated.
The room was clean and bed very comfortable so there is no reason to deduct any stars and they fully deserve a top rating. My room including sandwich was £65 for the night which I consider to be very good value.

I stayed here on the 2nd January prior to an early morning flight and paid for parking as well as the hotel. Check-in was swift, the meal in the bar perfect, the room warm, clean and comfortable. The only problem here was the other guests who had a domestic in the hallway at midnight and again at 3am. I ran into them again at 4.30am when I left to catch my flight. They were arguing with the receptionist about the temperature of the room - apparently it was too cold. I would recommend staying here, it is a budget airport hotel and should be accepted as such, it is not the Ritz.

I stay here regularly, great value and great people working here. On my last visit I lost a micro SIM card and amazingly LISHAN spotted it and saved it for me, saved me weeks of hassle as I was porting my account to it at the time. So impressed that someone servicing the room spotted a tiny micro SIM card and kept it safe. Thanks so much LISHAN you obviously are a dedicated team member who cares about her customers and are a credit to your employer !!!

+1
The hotel is dated and frankly tired. Check in was pleasant but not much information given out.
My room was a twin, bit scruffy though it smelt of paint! The bed was very grim as were the pillows.
Dated furniture but clean.
The bathroom is very run down, stained bath tubs and sinks, extractor not working and cracks and crevices in tiles.
The tv is situated in an odd place, you’d expect it to be in the centre of the 2 beds and high up but no! See my photo.
Word of warning, the room is next to the housekeeping office/cupboard so expect to be woken by them at 6.45 each morning. I hope they find the phone charger a guest left in room 211 or 212. I kid you not they had a lengthy and loud discussion about it.
HOUSEKEEPING - your guests are sleeping ( or were ) even if you’re not.
Breakfast was shambolic and not kept well. We ate at 9 and the hot food was very poor.
The new pot of coffee was brought out and when I pointed out to the 2 staff that it was full of grounds I was told ‘ that will be the filter’ but no offer to change them or take them away.
The bar is very short staffed and we decided to leave and head to the blackbird in ponteland. What a great decision.

I do not have the answers you are looking for. All I know is that I was misled and had to pay dearly for it. More importantly, neither the Britannia hotel, nor the company dealing with long stay parking, nor the company dealing with the fine for parking on hotel grounds ever got back to me!! That in itself is enough reason for me to never ever book with that hotel or related companies again. Being wrongly charged is one thing, to suffer the indignity of no response and complete dismissal of my complaints is another and is completely disrespectful - certainly shows ZERO customer appreciation. Not to mention that it is a very substandard hotel with poor services... More like a 1 star really!!
Wouldn’t stay there
