Few hotels can boast a more enviable city centre postcode than the Vermont Hotel, for this imposing structure is located in the heart of the City of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, not only next to the Castle Keep and opposite the historic Moot Hall, but also just two minutes from Newcastle's Central Station. Combining old character in the form of 1930s grandeur with contemporary elegance and four-star luxury, the landmark building is your base from which to discover the many bars, shops and attractions of the town centre and wider area. Look outside your window and you might see such sights as the River Tyne, Millennium Bridge or stunning cathedral, and it's not the only mark of the sheer inspiration of the Vermont Hotel experience. That's because the reasons for the hotel's reputation become clear with a stay in any one of its sophisticated bedrooms, which are finished in soft relaxing colours while also coming with a wealth of facilities for your pleasure and comfort, including - among others - private en-suite bathrooms, a mini bar and free Internet access.

If your big on good customer service then this hotel is not for you. From taking an age to check in, to been asked to book a time slot for Breakfast only to be told there isn’t a table ready for you when you arrive at the arranged time the list goes on. Booking specific tables in their roof top bar, only to arrive on time and be told your table isn’t available. Been served off cloudy wine In the same bar..! Calling to ask about items been left behind in the room on check out and having to call time and time again as nobody is interested or bothered. Sending complaints emails to the General manger who doesn’t bother to respond. The list goes on and on. In all fairness it’s a lovely hotel in an fabulous place, but the staff seem uneducated in their roles and don’t seem to care about customer service at all.

My husband and I have just dined in your restaurant. Service and food was absolutely superb. Honey chilli king prawns followed by bass in a creamy mussel sauce with barley. Absolutely delicious. We’ll be back

This was our second time at the Vermont. I booked the Wine Dine and Stay package for my wife's birthday, (which is tremendous value for money) The room was excellent absolutely no complaints. The hotel itself is also excellent in a fantastic location. Unfortunately, on this occasion the dining experience was a real let down. We had a table booked in the restaurant for 8.45 pm and there were no tables available. We were asked to wait in the lounge and were called through after around 10 minutes. The restaurant was very busy and we waited about 30 minutes for our starter The main course was served after more than an hour and we subsequently sat for ages waiting for the plates to be removed to the extent we discussed leaving without dessert. The staff were inattentive and we struggled to attract anyone to order more drinks. Eventually we managed to attract a staff members attention and had the plates removed at which point I asked if we could order our desserts. In all took a full two hours to serve us our food. (which was alright but nothing special) We told the staff member we felt the time taken had been unacceptable and were not charged for one glass of wine. I also told reception when checking out. I think this was probably just an unfortunate one off but it slightly spoiled our stay.

Location was excellent, not too close to the city centre but well within walking distance. The free parking is appreciated. The reception area and lounge/bar gives a great feeling of luxury. The hotel was clean and the bed was comfortable. Staff in the bar (on the same floor reception) were lovely but appeared inexperienced. I described it to my Dad as "Fawlty Towers-esk". It was shambolic. It took too long to receive drinks, staff often had to ask two to three times to check orders. We received the wrong drink on two occasions and we were even charged three times the price for one round (although this was rectified). Some things in the room looked in need of repair, the toilet roll holder, tap in the bathrooms, pipes looking badly on show. However, the worst thing was the constant thudding of base music, likely from the bar/nightclub on the bottom floor of the hotel. I didn't pay for a luxury hotel to get no sleep. I complained and was told there was no resident nightclub...a look at their website disproves this. The staff suggest it's the city centre location but we opened our windows to check and there wasn't any thudding music there.
