Few hotels can boast a more enviable city centre postcode than the Vermont Hotel, for this imposing structure is located in the heart of the City of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, not only next to the Castle Keep and opposite the historic Moot Hall, but also just two minutes from Newcastle's Central Station. Combining old character in the form of 1930s grandeur with contemporary elegance and four-star luxury, the landmark building is your base from which to discover the many bars, shops and attractions of the town centre and wider area. Look outside your window and you might see such sights as the River Tyne, Millennium Bridge or stunning cathedral, and it's not the only mark of the sheer inspiration of the Vermont Hotel experience. That's because the reasons for the hotel's reputation become clear with a stay in any one of its sophisticated bedrooms, which are finished in soft relaxing colours while also coming with a wealth of facilities for your pleasure and comfort, including - among others - private en-suite bathrooms, a mini bar and free Internet access.

Arrived for 3pm check in 15 minutes early and was told room wasn't ready so had a drink in the bar, reasonably priced at 6 and 7 pound a glass of quality Red Merlot and Rose Prosecco. Room was a suite on 11th floor with great views. Breakfast was good with loads of options inclusive of separate menu choices if the buffet hadn't sufficed. Bed was comfortable, there was noise from outside until early hours but expected in a City Centre location, nothing closing of window didn't solve but in peak summer might not be an option. Staff were spot on with a relaxed, quiet atmosphere within the hotel. Great for couples wanting a break away in a good central location.

We got a Wine, Dine & Stay deal. From arrival with the concierge, through the reception to the general staff, they were all pleasant and friendly. We were on the 8th floor facing the old hall. Brilliant location for the hotel and parking too. We had a great day exploring the toon. Then went up to Above. Had a couple of cocktails. Admired the views and vibes. It was heaving and it was only 18:30 We then went to the Mavern Restaurant On a 3 course set menu, two glasses of wine. The food was generally excellent, except we made two bad choices. One was teriyaki celeriac, the other was vegan lemon tart, with totally inedible pastry. The penalty for not using butter and fats. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. Very quiet. Breakfast was all you could eat buffet. For the price we paid, for the staff and location. It cannot be beaten. “Above” added 12.5% table service, which was a surprise.

Hotel is in a great location, perfect for bars and restaurants, and sightseeing. The interior of the hotel is gorgeous and well-maintained and the staff are all friendly and helpful, and are a credit to the hotel. We stayed on a very hot sunny day and unfortunately, the window in our room (712) was broken so could not be opened and the other did not open at all so we couldn't have any fresh air into the room. There was a fan that we kept on all night to stay cool but it was noisy. The pillows were not comfortable at all and neither was the bed (I could feel the coils in the mattress). It would be great if they would spend some investment on good pillows and mattresses as this would make a huge difference. We would definitely stay again if this was done.

Honestly, The Vermont Hotel was a nightmare! The room was a joke - so run-down it felt like a cheap motel instead of the luxury I was promised. And get this, they conveniently 'forgot' to mention the nightclub right above my room! Imagine trying to sleep while the ceiling is practically vibrating till 1 am! I felt like I was trying to snooze in the middle of a rave! But the cherry on top of this disaster was the staff. Rude doesn't even cover it. When I had the audacity to complain about the noise at half-past midnight, their response was to threaten me with the police and to kick me out! Unbelievable! The Vermont Hotel was a disaster. Poor room, deafening noise, and obnoxious staff. Don't waste your time or money here until they get their act together!

Thank you for your review and comments which we do find unjust and somewhat untrue. The hotel manager is more than happy to discuss your complaint and the behavior directed towards the team with you, should you wish to contact him.

We had a lovely river suite with a separate lounge area. Very relaxing. Enjoyed the rooftop bar as well as the lounge. Food and service were excellent. Special thanks to the evening concierge who always done his best to find us a parking space when the hotel was full. Excellent location for the quayside and city centre. We will definitely stay again.

We had a great stay in one of the Castle View double rooms. It was very spacious with the most comfortable bed we almost missed breakfast which was mire than enough for anyone's appetite. Lovely continental selection followed by a full English buffet, tea and toast. Well done The Vermont. A really memorable stay.

Opted for their midweek "Dine and Stay" offer, a 3 course meal (large portions), glass of wine, breakfast and a castle keep view from our bedroom. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from central station and centrally located for all that Newcastle has to offer. The historic Bridge hotel is just across the street and worth a visit for a pint and a chat with the friendly locals. The room was slightly dated but did include toiletries, tea and coffee and a well stocked fridge. Breakfast was buffet style with a great selection and the added bonus of an a la carte menu at no extra cost. On the top floor of the hotel is "The Above Bar" which offers great views of the quayside and Tyne bridge, although drinks are a little pricey. A gratuity charge is added to all bills at checkout, well worth it for the always cheerful hardworking staff.

We had a dinner,b+b package at The Vermont and I would highly recommend it. The food was delicious and there was plenty of choice despite it being a set meal. The venue is luxurious and spotlessly clean. The location is central and there is free parking available. Staff were welcoming and attentive. It was also such a good value for money offer. Would definitely plan a return trip and have recommended it already to friends.
