Great location next to train station and town centre but the room was really outdated. Our room was freezing to the point we had to ask for a heater. Bed was sooo uncomfortable felt like the floor😩 breakfast was lovely and staff very friendly.

To be fair, the hotel and our room was ok although I gather it's pot luck, but the spa.... Everything about this was disgusting. Even the member of staff was hiding. Apart from being dirty, the changing room shower was out of order. The jacuzzi was out of order but it had lots of broken and missing tiles plus mould and rust everywhere. The pool was dripping with water from the ceiling and rust marks on the walls. There were only two loungers, one was broken. The steam room door was rusty and the seals mouldy. I could go on but this was not just an off day. This is years of no investment. This was a special treat for my husband's 50th birthday. We booked it specifically for the spa and spent just a few minutes in there. Nothing like the photos on the website. We've been fobbed off with the email address for the general manager so we'll see what they have to say. Cairn group, shame on you!

My wife and I stayed here for a short city break. The hotel is located centrally near the train station with the main city centre amenities nearby, it is , in my opinion, a grand victorian hotel and has two large chandelled in the foyer which leads to reception. All staff that we had interactions with were very polite and helpful. Breakfast was a buffet type and very nice, we also had a roast dinner for Sunday lunch which was excellent. The rooms though could do with a little TLC. The one we had was missing a thermostatic valve on the radiator, a faulty light switch, loose toilet seat which wouldn’t stay upright (this happens in many hotels) and caps on the shower valves were missing (this could have been the installer that forgot to put them on as the mixer looked reasonable new and of good quality (Grohe), the water pressure was fantastic giving a very nice shower. We had a room on the front which did get a little bit noisy, this didn’t bother us really, however there were ear plugs in the room, I thought this was a nice touch. As per my title I think that this hotel is good but with a little better maintenance could be great: Update the TV channels, guide shows Sony Movies which changed to Great! Movies In May 2021 Have a maintenance person review the rooms every so often to see what needs replacing/fixing Ensure all electrical sockets and switches are working, one light switch faulty in our room I would like to think that these problems are associated with the current situation (Covid) which has caused lots of problems for the hospitality sector. Would have been 5* if we didn't have these problems. Last but not least I would recommend this hotel and we will stay here again if we go back to Newcastle.

This is the only review I have ever written. I just want to let people not to stay here. The room smelt. The spar was not open as stated, opened mid afternoon and on some days closed early also. There wasn't even toilet paper left in the room. When we mentioned this to the manager nothing was done, didn't even visit the room to try and find out the issue. The hotel spoilt our whole weekend. I have used many hotels over many years but never stayed at one as bad as this one.

We checked into the royal station hotel at 3pm, Went smoothly. We were given room 207, the room was spacious but shower was tiny. we quickly noticed the room had a cracked window, Dead wasps in the curtains, Plugs weren't working and they told us that our room was allocated a safety deposit box but when we looked the box was taken out. When I went to the desk to tell the young girl and the man they told us that they couldn't move us till the next day at 3 o'clock. No apology or nothing was giving for the inconvenience of our room. The room we moved to was 208 which was alot bigger and was defintely much nicer, We had no problems with it at all. Staff Wasn't great, When we left the hotel the girl didn't say thanks for staying with us, she wasn't very polite at all. The young girl and the young fella working in the empire restaurant were fantastic!! The only upside to this hotel is that it is close to all the bars and restaurants you need, And the hotel provided ear plugs to cancel out all the noise around us!
