If you’re looking for a modern hotel in Newcastle that features award-winning dining and sensational cocktails in a relaxed atmosphere, look no further than Cairn Newcastle. Situated in the affluent area of Jesmond, the Cairn Hotel Newcastle offers boutique-style accommodation. Our central location is perfect for both business and leisure travellers. Focusing on the fundamentals that our guests deserve, we provide an affordable, convenient, and comfortable place to sleep, work and play. Less than a mile from Newcastle city centre, located in the heart of Jesmond on the bustling Osborne Road, you’re perfectly situated for an excellent choice of nearby shops, restaurants, bars, and attractions. At the weekend, the hotel comes alive and is right in the centre of the action with some of the liveliest bars in the area on your doorstep.
I booked a classic double room for a 2 night stay whilst visiting Newcastle for the weekend. It cost me £140. I arrived at the hotel check in to be told I was being accommodated across the road at another one of their buildings. It’s called The Carlton Building and is on top of two very lively club / pub style venues. I entered my room and the floor was shaking with the music downstairs. I walked back down the street and spoke to reception who kindly moved me to a room towards the rear of the building. The room itself was nice enough. It was a decent size, the bed was clean and comfortable, plenty of towels, toiletries and tea and coffee facilities. It was cold but the plug in heater provided soon had the temperature to a nice level. What I will say is that the room was nothing like the pictures that I had seen when I made the booking. The colour scheme was the same but it was tired with cracks all over the ceiling. The one thing that lets this place down to a point where I’d never ever return is the noise. The hotel knows there’s noise as they offer ear plugs…… I lost count of the number of times I was woken or disturbed by loud music. The entire stay was ruined by slamming doors and what sounded like elephants stomping around above me. It’s a poorly insulated, old building in need of repair. To make it clear, THIS IS ONE OF THE NOISIEST HOTELS I’VE EVER STAYED IN and if it’s a restful nights sleep you’re looking for, then this definitely isn’t the place for you. When the music stops downstairs, it’s the slamming and stomping around of people coming and going and continuing to party after a night out. It’s completely relentless. Purely based on the noise from other guests and the pubs / clubs underneath the hotel, I would not recommend this hotel. Had I known before hand that the noise would be an issue, I’d definitely have booked elsewhere. I was really disappointed with my stay and wouldn’t stay here again. It was not worth the money sadly.…

Well after giving you a couple of weeks to reply to me on booking.com and then me having to message booking.com for them to tell me you also haven't responded to them either I am now writing my review! Don't go near this hotel it is disgusting! Supposed to be a luxurious hotel but it actually isn't! You walk upstairs and notice wires with tape on, the corridors are tiny, you feel like your in some form of hostel rather than a luxurious hotel! Me and my partner don't get away often and was the first ever time visiting Newcastle. The first night we got there late but we managed to park out back (there's around 12 parking spaces) but had to block somebody in. The next day we went into the town centre, come back and there was NO parking at all. Rung to ask where to park and the woman gave me directions (as I'm not from Newcastle I didn't know where I was actually going and ended up parking on a permit only road then had to move to a different road... Finally managed a permit only road but as it was Saturday night we were fine after a certain time... Then our night got worse... We then went over glass (obviously not the hotels fault but kind of for stating FREE PARKING) we then had to spend £75 on a new tyre just to get us home! The rooms... We're nothing like the pictures, I'd already sent them a message before turning up asking what room we were getting and was it the grey and teal room as advertised when booking... 'No sorry they aren't in this hotel they are across the road' WELL DONT ADVERTISE WHAT YOU DONT HAVE! Our room was tiny! The big massive air con machine or whatever it was kept making noises, cleaners were really loud in the morning! Cleaners? What cleaners? The room was filthy! Found somebody's lip liner next to the bed on the floor, dirt in the fridge and the bathroom was full of mould in the tiles, was vile! And under the sink was full of dust and dirt! It was supposed to be a nice weekend birthday break away with my partner but it ended up being awful! I just hope others read this review and DO NOT GO to this hotel! I just hope whoever the bride and groom were who turned up the Saturday night had a better experience than we did! I wouldn't even stop here if it was the last place to stay! And to top it off they won't even reply to myself or booking.com! After reading some of these reviews on here it's happened loads and I wish I'd have read these sooner! Absolutely disgusting place!…

Checked in and was told our room was in another building and not in that part of the hotel and was in a place called the Carlton hotel had to go down the street and take a left turn which was right above a bar/club. Room was absolutely freezing no air con or heating in the room. Corridors are very tight, no staff on sight at the Carlton hotel for all the duration we were there. When we went out the next morning we came back to our key not working (wasn’t near any phones etc) had to go to bottom floor use a phone to ring reception in a building up the road and they then got a cleaner to open our door. We stayed here last May and when we did reception kept our luggage for us this time they said they wouldn’t as there was no where to store them and they weren’t aloud. Milk in room was out of date and the taps only had hot water in…

Upon checking into the Cairn we were informed our room was infact across the road at the Carlton Hotel which we were not advised of at booking. There desk here was unmanned and security seemed lacking with many of the doors on the way up to rooms free to open by anyone. The room itself was small but on the surface initially seemed OK. That is until a foul smell started to drift in. The room was infact in poor condition in need of many repairs. Overnight it became very stuffy even with the window open which only served to let in the noise from the pubs on the street. We had actually booked a 2 night stay here but checked out immediately on the first morning. Its a no everytime.

Horrible Scruffy Hotel, we stayed for the night after my partners daughter booked it for us.. The hotel looked like it had never been cleaned since the 80s. The shower was broken and could only be used on scalding hot. Food was disgusting and I don’t think the chefs knew the meaning of hygiene. I would avoid this place at all costs

Spent a weekend at this hotel as I was dropping my daughter off at university and I also had work appointments in the area. This is a pretty decent hotel on the main road in Jesmond. We were in the annex which is about 150m away from the main hotel itself; breakfast is served in the main hotel building. Car parking on both hotel sites is limited and if you do get a space (we were lucky and we managed to get one), they're very tight

Moved to write this because of the unjustified terrible reviews that have gone before. This is undoubtedly a budget hotel, and you get what you pay for. There are positives though, and it’s only fair to list them as well as the negatives. I booked this then read the reviews and got the fear about my stay. I nearly cancelled. But the location was perfect for my needs and I don’t believe everything I read. Whilst it’s true the hotel is shabby (at least at the Carlton where I stayed) and tired, and the walls thin, corridors noisy, for the main part it’s really okay. The bed was clean and comfortable and there were plenty of clean, soft towels. The staff I met were all lovely, friendly and kind. It’s so cheap and so convenient. It’s really really not that bad.

Not really sure where to start. On arrival to the Cairn Hotel, we were told that our rooms were infact across the road and not in the location of the actual hotel. No help received in moving multiple bags across the road also (it was pouring down with rain as we started our move to a completely different building). We then spend 20 minutes waiting outside waiting for somebody to let us into this building. Once we were finely let in, we were shocked at the difference between the rooms. The rooms advertised on the website are not even closely like the actual rooms you stay in - thats if you are put across the road which is also not mentioned on the website when booking a room. Once in the room, we discovered that we were in the middle of two clubs/bars which had constant loud music playing and did not stop until after 1am in the morning. My biggest gripe will be the lack of communication from customer service team who have not responded to 5 of my emails requesting compensation for the poor service this place offers. DO NOT STAY HERE! …

I am not usually a person to complain, but our experience last night was nothing short of horrendous. Upon getting to the hotel we were informed we were not actually in the cairn but the carlton down the road, this made life difficult to start with as carrying our cases to the top floor and my wife having sciatica was not a pleasant experience. Upon getting to the room, the level of cleanliness left a lot to be desired, pubic hair around the door stop, in the sink and on the toilet. Mould and detritus around the shower screen and snots on the bathroom wall and also the bedroom wall beside the bed. We left the room for the night and returned at 9pm to find the room like a furnace, we had the small window open and the fan on, but this made no difference whatsoever. At 1am we both decided enough was enough and went to the carlton reception to ask if anything could be done, sadly the potato behind the counter was as much use as a day off, so we went out in the rain to sleep in the car and see about changing hotels, as we were blocked in this was not an option, so sleep in the car it was. After sitting wet for 2 hours, we trudged back to the carlton and tried again to sleep. We eventually got some rest, about 6 in the morning. But unfortunately, slept through breakfast. I have now sent 4 emails to customer services to at least get a refund for the breakfast we could not have, but to date, every email has been ignored. Will never step foot in here again. …
