Booked hotel for special birthday weekend with son who lives in Newcastle .arrived with our 16 year old daughter. Paid upfront first mistake. Smelt of sewage in rooms.daughter refused entry to bar at 5 in the afternoon. She only wanted a coke !! No hot water ! Dreadful beds security didn't work on doors so we had to have our daughter in our room. We paid for 2 rooms .People from bar tried her door handle!! Didn't risk breakfast. I've emailed called 3 times n Not one reply. Unprofessional. Don't go there. Photos can be deceptive!!!

Cold room with no heating or hot water. Lamp with a broken bulb. Staff who didn’t care. Management who refuse to respond to emails. Ended up leaving after one night and had a very enjoyable time in the nearby Premier Inn.

We arrived on a Thursday evening to a room with no hot water or heating (a superior room that cost us more than the standard), along with a fire door in our bedroom allowing a constant draft of cold air. We had to sleep in our clothes to keep warm. Apparently according to a group of individuals I met in the lobby who are made to stay there often for work, this is a common occurrence, not a one off. We were not able to have a warm shower for the duration of our four night stay and the room was freezing. There were also no cleaners to clean the room. We were given the managers email address to request a refund for our stay. And have since been waiting over 2 weeks for a response despite originally being told 3-5 days to receive a reply. I understand now why they take the payment on arrival rather than when you leave, because you will never see your money again and simply be left with a terrible experience. Don’t waste your money here unless you want a cramped, freezing room with cobwebs above the bed and terrible customer service who really do not seem to care about the comfort of their customers or the service they provide

Stayed in the hotel for 2 nights in the "carlton hotel" building (an about 1 minute walk from the main hotel), though the hotel is a good 30 min walk from the centre of Newcastle. The room it's self is basic but nice enough (though we were disappointed that the only amenity in the room was shampoo, not even soap for washing hands), however the walls between rooms are VERY thin, so as this hotel is visited by many people clubbing in Newcastle, we were woken during both nights by people coming back at early hours in the morning and chatting in their rooms (we could practically hear their their whole conversation word by word), and feeling the walls shake as doors were slammed on the corridor, we ended up having to get some ear plugs to mitigate this. We were at least lucky enough to not be on the floor directly above the bar, which was incredibly loud and didn't stop being so till late at night. On a more positive note, the staff at the hotel were lovely, and the buffet breakfast had a decent spread and was of good quality!

We stayed at the Cairn hotel for 2 nights, we were welcomed by lovely staff and allowed to check in before our official check in time. However the room had a terrible smell of drains and the room was quite dusty. I dropped a plastic spoon on the floor and when I picked it up it was thick of dust. The room was also very loud and as our room was near a staircase we could hear people coming up and down all night and slamming doors. Overall I would be put off from staying here again because of the general cleanliness and smell. However I reiterate the staff were brilliant and when I informed reception about the smell they were apologetic.
