Fantastic conversion of the old coop warehouse on the Tyne! Reception staff very welcoming. Stylish decor though very dark and a bit dim. Take your reading specs if you're over 40! Bar and restaurant staff were all friendly and nice background entertainment in the bar in the afternoon - even did a bit of Chris Isaak! Great location.

Dear Mark L, Firstly thank you for taking the time to write your review. I was very pleased to read that you enjoyed our fabulous location and the history of our building. You are very right about the darkness; some people do fall in love with it and for others it can be too dark. Once again thank you for...

We asked for a room with a view and was told that's what we would get however that was not the case either. When I asked...

I was surprised last Friday with a night away by my partner for my birthday. We'd been out for food in evening then had told me we were actually staying in Newcastle for the night. At around 10.30pm we left where we were eating and went for a drink in the Malmaison bar. There were a good amount of people...

Myself and my husband stayed here the night before flying to Paris on honeymoon, we were given a free upgrade to a better room, and inside there was a lovely card congratulating us on our marriage with complimentary cocktail vouchers, this was a lovely gesture which made us feel very special. We ate in the restaurant which was delicious. Every...

Six of us just had a night away here for a 'girls night in' spa package. Rooms were clean & comfortable, the spa treatments were fantastic and the food in the restaurant was lovely. It's in a great location, easy to get to and with a car park straight opposite. Reception staff were really helpful and quickly sorted out an...

We stayed for two nights at the Malmaison. Our room, which had a river view, was very well presented and generally clean. The bathroom had a bathtub and a separate waterfall shower and was clean We had two dinners and one breakfast at the bistro. Breakfast was good but not the best we've had. Food at dinner was very good...

Very enjoyable stay at this superbly positioned branch of the chain. As with all Malmaison hotels, rooms are spacious, extremely comfortable and stylishly appointed. Service is generally excellent, though in the restaurant (see separate review) it can creak under pressure. As other reviews have said, it is well worth the relatively small additional charge to upgrade to a view room...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Fog on the Tyne? Let's hope not. Otherwise you'll miss the great view of the Tyne Bridge you get from our hotel in Newcastle city centre. But then, when you're staying at Malmaison Newcastle, it's the views on the inside that tell you your boat's come in. While you're right at the heart of Newcastle's great shops and exciting nightlife, the lure of MALBAR's legendary cocktails and the Mal Brasserie's classic dishes with a twist is pretty strong. And who wants to spend all night out on the town when one hotel in Newcastle has a whole floor with a shipbuilding theme and bathtubs you could sink a battleship in? It could only be the Newcastle Mal. ... more   less
