Staying Saturday 1 Oct for one night, pub on its own overlooking wooded valley, initial reaction was oh my god,but the place oozes character, wooden floor and walls, simple wooden tables,a real old fashioned pub.Our room, number 4 was large, clean, lovely comfy bed and fried breakfast served in our bedroom, very tasty.Approx 15 min walk to the town centre.

Cumberland Arms is the ultimate traditional pub. It's been in every edition of CAMRA Good Beer Guide. 2 bars with roaring fire in winter in main bar. Also upstairs venue bar which has regular live music. Popular with folk supporters. Good range of real ales & craft beers. Outside seating area. Northern Alchemy brewery is in container adjacent.

We stayed at the B&B for the night before our Hadrian Wall walk. We walked (1/2 hour) from the Central Station because it was a lovely day. We could have taken the metro. Isiobel met us at the door and showed us our large, airy room overlooking the outdoor eating area. We were happy that we could open our windows....

Great place for a drink with friends. This place is paradise for anyone who likes good beer. Visited recently and there was food available outside and live music. Ended up staying there all evening. I haven't stayed there so I can't comment on the rooms but if you're in the Ouseburn area make sure you visit the Cumberland.

Everytime we are home in Newcastle this is the first pub we head to every time. Great ciders and beers, friendly atmosphere and excellent music. 11/10 Just brilliant. In summer you can sit on the hill and enjoy the views down the ouseburn valley towards more lovely pubs!

OK, so you may have to walk a couple of flights to get to your bedroom, but it's worth it. Our room was clean, spacious well stocked and had a nice super-kingsize bed. Breakfast was bought to our room each morning (you just have to make your selection in advance). I used the B&B as a base for watching some...

I love the Cumberland. We stayed there once years ago for a christening party and when there was a wedding in the same family, I went straight to hotels.com to book And that may have been the problem. When we arrived at the Cumberland, ore paid advance booking all ready, after a 300mile journey up from the south....they had absolutely...

found this pub last year while on a stag doo. i did not know that this pub existed, but its brilliant. the staff are always friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the home made beer is spot on. you can get all sorts of real ales and ciders, and your normal run of the mill beers, i.e.. Carling etc.. but...

If your looking for accommodation in Newcastle close enough to the city centre but not smack bang in the middle. Then this is perfect, look no further. Just a little walk away. The pub is renowned for its own ales and has great character. The locals are friendly and the staff are very accommodating. I stayed here for business but...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Cumberland Arms boasts a gem of a Bed and Breakfast that hides behind the side door. Opened in May 2009, it has four spacious ensuite rooms all with south-facing views over the Ouseburn Valley and city. If you are cycling there is a place to store bikes and we offer 3 types of breakfast served to your room at a time that suits you. The rooms all have super king size beds, tv and radio, real coffee and tea making facilities with fresh milk! There is so much to do on the doorstep within the Ouseburn Valley or a short walk will bring you to the Quayside with the Sage Gateshead, Baltic and Millennium Bridge. We are also just 15 minutes from the city centre. The B&B sits above The Cumberland Arms pub with its real ale and cider selection, beer terrace and open fires, traditional music sessions as well as regular gigs and events throughout the year. The Pub has a selection of bar snacks but does not do meals. There are lots of places to eat near by, if you ask the staff they are happy to give you advice on places to eat. Whatever you want from your stay the luxurious but relaxed atmosphere of the B&B means it is a perfect place to get away from it all. ... more   less
