Wonderful breakfast. Very helpful staff, my luggage was delayed the 1st day I got here; they helped guide me to shopping places. Mo was extremely helpful and kind on the day I checked out. Highly recommend

Hotel's Favourite
We stayed here for 3 nights , the location is fantastic, beds comfy and staff very friendly. My daughter loved the bunk beds in our room and our room was spotless! It was really nice to have a fridge in our room and the kitchenette was well kitted out with everything from cutlery to tea towels. We only had breakfast here one of the mornings and to be honest we arrived late but the girls took care of us no bother which was really nice. We had a problem with our flights so had to switch dates and some of our family arrived before us and we had to add a night so our booking was a bit messy, but reception handled it all swiftly and efficiently.

Hi Parsy, Thank you so much for staying with us and for taking the time out to leave us such a wonderful review. It’s absolutely delightful to read that you loved everything about your stay. I’m so glad that even despite arriving late, the team at breakfast were able to look after you both. There’s not always a great deal left of the buffet by the end of service – and certainly not by the time we’ve gotten to it – but when there is, we’re always happy for it to be put to good use. We know all too well that even the best laid plans can go awry, so we’re always happy to help organise things when last minute changes need to be made. I’m really pleased to hear that we were able to help rearrange your reservations and keep everything in order for your trip. Wishing you all the best and we very much look forward to welcoming you back next time Jake Coventry-Peters – Guest Services Manager

Run down and dirty very disappointed Overpriced for what it is. Room covered in mould, stains on walls and paint work. Bedding stained. Generally felt dirty. Went to make a cuppa in room and found unwashed spoon, checked out at 6am didn’t want to even wait for breakfast. Awful hotel.

Stayed here last week on the eve of a football match The hotel is superbly positioned next to the football ground so if you have a late match you can nip over and get some sleep The staff were lovely at reception It was impeccably presented and the room was clean and well laid out Not just one tv but three and the bathroom was spotless Would I stay here again ? Absolutely and I will be doing for our next match

This could have been so much better than it was. The whole place is just a bit grubby and run down. We booked a standard room for two nights two weeks ago and to be honest it was really disappointing, it seemed to be advertised as more upmarket than it clearly was. The standard room itself on the website looked really nice, but in reality it was really small and run down. The walls were dirty and the carpet was torn, the window sill was covered in black mould. The shower was really temperamental and would only reach warm before dropping in temperature after five minutes. It just looked like the room hadn't been deep cleaned for ages and had a really stale smell. The breakfast in the morning was below standard, although there is a variety of food options, they were all really cheap tasting like everything was low budget. The tea and coffee in the room were grim, honestly the cheapest own brand you'll ever taste. The only plus to the room was the location being next to the stadium and the fact that the staff were friendly, it's about a 20 minute walk out from the quayside and you can really notice that you're in student land and not in the best part of Newcastle. I would not recommend staying here.

I've stayed at the Sandman Signature Hotel in Newcastle-upon-Tyne a few times before, and generally I've had good experiences. Based on this stay, I probably won't return. The receptionists are friendly and helpful, although this time I would've liked one of them to ask if my stay was pleasant. The bed and sofa were comfortable, and the room was at the right temperature for sleeping, but that's where the positives stop. Late in the evening (Saturday), I wanted room service, but discovered the phone in the room (117) was dead. While the menu on the tv says 24 hour room service, there is a menu card giving the hours when room service is available. Which is it? In the morning, I tried to take a shower around 7:30am but there was no hot water. Even after breakfast, around 9:45am, the hot water was barely tepid, and still not suitable for a shower. My previous stay in November 2022 was a little more agreeable, however there were many items in the shower room and bedroom that needed to be screwed back to the walls. Next time, I'll search for a hotel in the same part of the city with basic amenities that work and are reliable.

Hi cook_25_05, Thank you very much for coming to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review. Although on this occasion we’ve let you down – after having had much more successful visits previously, we really appreciate your feedback on what went wrong and giving us the chance to look into what we could do better for next time. Checkout is a very valuable opportunity for us to collect feedback on our guests’ stays, so I’m sorry to hear that we missed the opportunity on this occasion. We are currently experiencing a hotel-wide phone network outage. Whilst we have engineers working on getting this fixed as quickly as they can, we know this can cause significant inconvenience during your stay when trying to order room service or contact the guest service team. We are providing a direct line to the front desk in the absence of internal phones in our welcome letters, however this should have been clearly explained on check-in. Please accept my sincerest apologies that this was not the case and contacting the team was an issue. Our Shark Club only operates during set hours, contrary to the information displayed on the TV in your room. I’ve asked for this to be reviewed and amended as soon as possible – thank you for bringing this to our attention. The building’s boilers are situated at the top of the hotel, meaning that when only one or two rooms on a particular floor are using the shower, it can take longer to draw water through the system. Unfortunately, this effect can be accentuated by being on the first floor, which is furthest from the boilers. We can apply a boost to a particular area if we are aware of the issue, so please do come and see us if there are any difficulties with hot water as we would have loved to try and bring the water to a comfortable temperature for you. Thank you very much once again for all of your comments. You’ll know from your previous stays that the usual standard of service we are proud to deliver to our guests is of a much higher standard than you experienced this time around. We’d love to hear from you to with some more detail about about your stay, and to let you know how we’re working to rectify the issues you encountered on your most recent visit. Please get in touch with me on gsm_newcastle@sandmanhotels and I will personally ensure that your next stay is perfect from start to finish. Wishing you all the very best and we hope to see you again soon, Jake Coventry-Peters – Guest Service Manager

Arrived on the Saturday was greeted by welcoming staff, they had a room available straight away for us. Room was clean and good size only faults where USB on one side didn’t work the fridge was in the wardrobe which you had to lift up to open the door which felt like a last minute thought. If you want a good nights sleep I wouldn’t recommend due to the location which isn’t their fault but for the club which is either underneath and the sirens coming past through the night equals no sleep.

Hi Kasey, Thank you very much for coming to stay with us and for taking the time to share your experience in the form of a review. I'm very pleased to hear that you were left with a great impression from the outset by a warm welcome at the front desk and the possibility of an early check in. Whilst it's not always possible to check in early, we love when we're able to help get a little bit more out of your stay by offering early access to the room. I'm sorry to hear that you had some difficulty getting to sleep due to noise coming from outside the hotel. As you rightly point out, a certain level of outside noise is only natural due to our city centre location. However, as we're only a few minutes walk from the heart of Grainger Town, with both China Town and St James' Park right on our doorstep, I hope the convenience of our location meant that this didn't overshadow your trip too much. I would agree that anyone who is a light sleeper staying in one of our Signature King rooms overlooking Gallowgate may wish to bring earplugs for good measure. Thank you for your comments about the fridge catching on the wardrobe door runner and the faulty USB plug socket. I'm pleased to confirm that I've reported both of these to our maintenance team and they have now been resolved. We very much appreciate you bringing these to our attention - we always ask that our guests report any maintenance concerns to the team so that we can get them fixed as soon as possible in order to provide the comfortable stay that you had been hoping for Thank you once again for all of your comments and for giving us the opportunity to look into areas for improvement. We're always open to hearing more of your ideas for what we could do to improve your experience next time, so if you'd like to discuss your stay in some more detail, please reach out to me on gsm _newcastle@sandmanhotels.co.uk All the very best and we hope to see you again soon, Jake Coventry-Peters - Guest Service Manager

The only positive comment is if you are going to Newcastle United then there is no better location otherwise a disappointing stay. Having traveled from London I was looking for a quick check in instead I suffered probably the longest wait for check in at any hotel I have experienced. The one person on checkin took far too long with every guest disappoint a queue. Seemed more interested in chatting than doing his job, The hotel is tired and dated and long overdue a refurbish. Not what you expect from a four star hotel. We had hot water one day in the shower and luke warm the next day. Also the room was freezing as the window was broken and couldnt be closed properly. Apart from location there nothing to recommend about this hotel. Very poor value for money.

Hi David, Thank you very much for coming to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review. Recommending and helping to book local dining, finding out why our guests have come to visit our wonderful city, arranging transport and helping out with a reservation are just some of the ways that the front desk can make our guests’ stay extra special. This is exactly what was happening when you came to check in and experienced a queue on arrival. Unfortunately, one of the team had to leave the desk briefly to help another guest, and as we were fully booked on the day you came to stay, this resulted in a small queue forming. I’m pleased to hear that although there was a queue, the team member who checked you in remained committed to delivering exceptional service under pressure. The “chatting” is very much an example of doing our jobs and an integral part of the front desk’s role in providing a warm a and friendly welcome to make our guests feel at home. I’m sorry to hear that you found the condition of the room you were allocated somewhat dated and in need of some refurbishment. We recognise that there are some areas in need of attention which is why we are in the process of updating and upgrading our rooms, with new items being delivered on a daily basis. Please accept my apologies that this affected your stay in the meantime. I have reported the window for our maintenance team and I’m pleased to say that this has now been resolved, so thank you for bringing this to our attention. If you come to stay with us again, please let one of the team know if there are any issues so we can look into getting it resolved straight away and provide the comfortable stay you had been hoping for. I’d also like to apologise for the difficulty in getting hot water to your room. Our boilers are situated at the top of the building, so at times when there are fewer people using the showers, it can take longer for the hot water to make its way through the system. There are ways that we can draw the water through slightly quicker, so again, please let us know if this is the case as one of the team would have been very happy to help. Thank you once again for your comments and for giving us the opportunity to look into what went wrong during your stay. We’re always happy to hear any suggestions for what we could do to make your next stay more enjoyable so please reach out to me on gsm_newcastle@sandmanhotels.co.uk if you’d like to share some more details. All the best, Jake Coventry-Peters – Guest Service Manager

Wanted to stay in Newcastle for overnight stay after having evening out with friends. So booked the Sandman. Staff were great, they asked if we had preference on how high up in hotel we would like to stay. I asked for a good view. Put us on tenth floor with St James Park view. Was excellent. Room was great just for the overnight stay. Would have up graded if was going to stop over longer. Only criticism I have on the room is sound proofing the toilet area. Partner can hear me when dropping kids off at the pool. Not very romantic. Breakfast is good great selection. Black pudding nice and peppery just how I like it. Would highly recommend.
