Once one of the best hotel's in Stratford it is so sad to see this lovely building so badly neglected. I am told that it is due a major refurbishment which is definitely long overdue. Bedrooms are tired, corridors a disgrace, dirty carpets and scuffed paintwork everywhere. Good breakfast with friendly staff. Accor should take more care to ensure their franchisees reflect Mercure brand standards and the quality expected at 4 star properties.

Disappointing hotel was a very good one, visited regularly when owners where Forty’s Now walked in not a soul about , barren , looks unloved empty void of and type of charm. First room was adequate but sink taps were totally loose and revolved when trying to use them. Was moved to another room , bigger but this time extraction fan and bathroom mirror didn’t work. Started to loose the will to live Went down stairs to have a drink from the bar - still empty of people but there must have been some as empty glasses were laying about These matched the glasses outside my room which remained there for the two night stay!!!!! Had to ask a passing guest with a drink in her hand where the bar was - found it but for some reason it’s tucked away difficult to find in the totally empty dinning room It’s a great pity as this was once a lovely charming hotel to stay but now it’s like a morgue Needs love and attention

Hotel was clean, apart from The cobwebs on the windows but everything else was perfect, bed was huge and comfy! Fan in room which helped with the hot night! Ideal location! Literally so close to everything! Definitely will be staying again!

I try to avoid the Mercure brand in the accor range as usually they are of poor quality and this hotel matched up to that! Checkin was annoying as 2 staff where on reception, but only 1 was booking customers in, the other was chatting to another colleague! I was advised my room wasn't in the main hotel but in the Garrick wing, and i was given direction which sent me in the wring direction, eventually i found the building which is in the car park, with access onto the main street. The room i had was on the 2nd floor and you had to climb some steep flights of stairs so no good for anyone with mobility issues. I opened my room door and the first thing that hit me was the heat! As suspected no air con and all i had was some small windows which where open behind secondary glazing, i tried to open the window but was unable ti create a draft! the decor of the room, was like something from the 80s, carpet and furniture not modern and the TV only had 5 working chanels, the bathroom had a bath with a shower and wasn't the easiest to get in . out of! My sleep was awful, trying to get to sleep in a hot room not easy, bu then to be woken up with people shouting as they pas the hotel at around 12:30 and then shop deliveries from 4am it wasn't a good experience. Breakfast was ok, the food on offer was spread around the dinning area, and i had to ask where the juice was as the lady on breakfast duty didnt explain the offer. I would recommend one of the other hotels in the town as this one is not good and certinally not good value for money or experience

Rooms where not to bad condition. Could have more tea etc in the rooms. Was charged £10.50 for a single vodka and had to pay for a coke separately so ended up paying £34 for 2 vodkas and cokes and 2 cokes on there own. Had to walk past a running sewage pipe which was open on the way to to the bar. Had to pay £15 for Parking which they tried to charge us twice. Not very clean. Very dingy. Could do we some refurb and tidying up in a lot of the hotel.

Really clean, well presented rooms, one of the most chic, lovely bathrooms I've had the pleasure of having, the fact you could have a bath really made my room that extra hit comfortable. Hit a few tiny problems with, but that was resolved very quickly and the e were no problems after. It's in a very central location, not too far from the main attractions, is quite silent, had no trouble. Very comfy beds and sheets.

We arrived Friday early evening and check-in was very smooth and quick. We got to our room, mmm nothing like the pictures on the website, our room looks like it has not been updated since the 16th century, old dull and very poor condition. @7am we are awakend by a large extractor fran right outside out window, which i might add don't open much to let any air in the room. As a platinum accor member I thought a better room would have been in order if you get given room 144 refuse it. I'm sure if you had a room at the from it maybe better. I won't be staying again in the hotel for the amount paid I could have had a better stay in a travelodge.

I recently stayed at the Wonderful Shakespeare hotel together with my friends and their children. We arrived at about 2pm and were greeted by the charming Maria who said that our rooms would be ready in a few minutes. We then went to rooms 111 and 114 and they were positioned wonderfully overlooking Chapel St. They were indeed clean and beautifully presented. The only niggle we had was that there was no soap in the soap dispenser next to the basin. In the evening we spoke with reception and this was duly fixed the next day. The hotel is in perfect proximity to all the Shakespeare homes, being at most a 5 minutes walk. Indeed the River Avon and the Shakespeare theatre are a mere 3 minutes walk away as are indeed all the restaurants. Breakfast was a sumptuous feast and had all the requisites that one would need served in a buffet style. We were served by the lovely Margit was extremely empathic to our needs and extremely attentive. Parking was fine and on the occasion when we ventured out to see Shakespeare's grave and Anne Hathaway's cottage, the kind receptionist reserved a parking space for us on our return. A wonderful time was had by all and I would like to relay my commendations to the manager - Jason who must work extremely hard to ensure that the aforementioned service is kept up to standard. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough should you wish to learn about Shakespeare and teach the children about this most prolific writer by staying at this hotel which as I re-iterate close to all the homes , theatre and river. A truly remarkable experience.

Good points - convenient location and parking (albeit at a price for parking), beds comfortable and clean Bad points - bedroom furniture old and shabby - a drawer handle came off in my hand. Television was the worst I've ever come across in a hotel - random channels, no sound until you turned the tv on and off a couple of times, no information in room Breakfast - reasonable selection but all the hot food was overcooked and looked as though it had been prepared hours earlier - this was at 8am. Bacon was the consistency of rubber and inedible Would not stay here again

I wish I could have given them five stars, but we think the £15 per day parking was steep when we only pay £10 per night to stay in Russel Square in London. The hotel itself is lovely; it has creaking floorboards, windows that could do with a good clean and a few cobwebs here and there, but hey, it's got loads of character. The staff all across the hotel are friendly and accommodating, and nothing is too much trouble for them. The breakfast has everything you want and is buffet style, apart from your tea and coffees which are fetched to you. We never had lunch or dinner here, but the people we spoke to said, "It was very nice, and the afternoon tea was delicious". The bar we found to be good value and plenty of choices. There is a lift, but this does not go to all bedrooms, and there is a bath in all rooms. If you are in a wheelchair or have walking difficulties, I would ring before you book; plus, there are only two disability parking places in their minimal parking area, but you can reserve them if available. The room was clean, and the beds were very comfortable, with plenty of coffee, tea and milk, a kettle, ironing board and iron, a trouser press and a hairdryer in the drawer—a small fridge under the TV but NO fans. The bathroom had lovely large white towels, shampoo, and body wash. All in all, we would stay at this hotel again.
