We spent three nights here 1st to 4th September and had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing time. The hotel is steeped in history with little touches such as lit up framed Shakespeare quotes outside each bedroom door. Lovely pictures along the walls and everywhere spotless. Gorgeous reception and lobby area, together with bar and restaurant with original beams, flooring and wooden panelling. We had a classic double which was really good. Very spacious, lots of wardrobe and drawer space, huge Queen size bed, and very contemporary furnishings. Fabulous double shower and again spotlessly clean. Due to Covid restrictions, we got extra bath towels and toiletries without a problem. Nothing was too much and we commend all the staff, particularly the reception staff who were friendly and polite, helpful and always made a point of saying hello and asking how we were.

We're already planning our next visit to this hotel. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Stratford now.

Dear KathrynHallAuthor, Thank you for your review. I am delighted to read that you had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing 3 night stay with us. Our building dates back in parts to 1450, so is stepped in history and character. Guest comfort and safety is paramount to us, and so it is vital - especially now - to ensure everything is spotlessly clean. I will make sure all of the staff get to hear your kind words about their service. This really does make what they do worthwhile. We look forward to extending a warm welcome on your return visit. Regards, Sol

I am going to start this review by singing the praises of your lovely Receptionist Denise, so helpful and genuine and really is a credit to the White Swan. I would also like to say how fab the guy who served us breakfast was think he may have been the restaurant or bar manager, he was very professional with a friendly manner.

I booked a delux double room for my husbands Birthday, the bed was comfortable and clean and the shower power was brill. The view out of the window was of the hotel parking/delivery area but we were never bothered by any noise, this may be different on a week day). The room was well equipped and the bathroom had a roll top bath and large walk in shower.
Breakfast was fab we both loved the fact that the breakfasts were cooked to order and the coffee/tea delivered to your table. There is also a selection of pastries and cereals etc and fruit juices for you to help yourself too. If I had to find any critism I would say if your serving Streaky bacon (as they do) it should be crispy ours wasn't but it in no way stopped us from enjoying the excellent breakfast.

I have only given a 4 rating due to a few things that let the hotel down and which could be improved.
Check in is advertised as 3pm, we were not able to access our room until 3.45, not ideal if you have travelled a long way. 3pm should be 3pm.
2 bulbs in Room 209 had gone lights should all be checked by housekeeping before a guest arrives
The floor was still extremely wet in the bathroom when arriving at the room.
The socket by the mirror where I wanted to dry my hair was working but the hairdryer plug would not click into it properly. I then had to use the socket by the desk but the table lamp didnt work so I couldnt see easily.
In the bathroom there should be soap to use at the sink there was none, not great with covid still present but I had my own antibac hand gel but bathrooms should have soap and if it was missed by housekeeping it should not have been! I also think that when you pay over £200 for a room a shower cap should be in the bathroom, along with some cotton buds this sort of thing.
A few biscuits would be nice too as we could not get a slot for breakfast until 10am and could have staved our hunger.
We enjoyed our stay at the White Swan and would definitely book again if visiting Stratford, the hotel is in a beautiful old building and you feel like your stepping back in time in the dining room and bar area. The small improvement points I have listed should not put people off booking as we had a very enjoyable time.

Dear KazReading_England Thank you for your review. I am so pleased to read the comments about your experience here, and the service of Denise on reception. I am unsure who may have served you at Breakfast, perhaps you can describe him so he too can be rewarded for excellent service. I am delighted you liked liked the room and especially the roll-top bath. I am really sorry that you were unable to check in at the advertised time - sadly the day you arrived we were let down by the linen company who were late delivering, which had a knock-on effect. I hope you were offered a complimentary drink while you waited? I will talk to housekeeping, as there is normally home-made fresh biscuits in each room. What pleases me the most is that you had a very enjoyable stay, and that you would return. I can assure you that you would not have any issues, however minor on your return. We look forward to welcoming you back. Regards, Sol

We had a 3 night stay Friday to Monday and it was wonderful. We opted for a classic Double room and it was on the 2nd floor it wasn't massive but the bed was comfy and eveything you would need was there including hairdryer, iron & board, fridge with bottles of water & jug of fresh milk, tea, coffee, biscuits etc, in the bathroom soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, shower cap etc.. Breakfast was amazing very chilled and lots of fresh choices nobody rushed you. We had the most amazing Sunday lunch best in a long time. Staff were fantastic couldn't do enough for you friendly, helpful & professional a credit to the company. The whole ambience was relaxing we loved it. The location is perfect we didn't use our car all weekend walked everywhere! lots of restaurants, bars and things to do in Stratford Upon Avon.
Nothing was too much trouble for Ealanor on Reception she was brilliant .. looking to go back again next summer with our family. If your thinking of a stay in Stratford this is the Hotel to stay at... Well done everyone see you all soon

Dear Louise B, Thank you for your review. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your 3 night stay with us recently and that you found your stay to be wonderful. We have 41 bedrooms, and each is different in terms of decor, size, shape and position - all have one thing in common - they're beautiful and attention to detail is second to none. I will pass on your praise to the chef and his team regarding both Sunday lunch and the breakfast served each day. The team themselves really like to get positive comments, which is why they go above and beyond to make sure each guest leaves happy. JOB DONE! (I will let Eleanor know about her special mention!) We are so pleased you'll return soon. Until then. Regards, Sol

My wife and I visited the weekend of 17th for two nights with family , we decided on the white swan because of location and also the pictures of hotel were very nice indeed , we decided to treat ourselves to what they call a character room , the rate of this room was £200 a night . Unfortunately we were a little underwhelmed as the cleanliness of said room was below par , dusty floors and surfaces ,not what you would expect from any hotel let alone one that charges that amount , we had no one clean our room while we were there which was also disappointing, when we went down for our booked time slot of 10:15 am for breakfast which was 45 mins before they stopped serving , we were told to help ourselves to array on breakfast goodies , when we got there , there was barely anything left , I asked the waitress if they could replenish the items and was told no they had nothing left , very disappointed as I believe that style of breakfast should be well stocked until the last guest s are ready to leave the breakfast room .
Again disappointed.
Apart from the above mentioned we had a brilliant time in Stratford upon Avon

Dear YNOT07, Thank you for your review. I am more than a little surprised by the comments here, as this is far from what i expect and what we normally provide. The rooms are cleaned daily and as such there should not be any dust on surfaces in the rooms. I will check with housekeeping what happened on this occasion. On check in, we are advising all guests that rooms are not being serviced on stay overs to minismise contacts, and also to try to help the enviornment - we are however, more than happy to refresh the rooms on request or replace any items you desire - upon request. In relation the the cold items at breakfast, sadly we have not been immune to the shortages experienced by all recently - unfortunately some items are not being delivered, or delivered in the quantites ordered. I can fully apprecitate this is frustrating, however i hope the hot items cooked fresh to order made up for it in some way. I hope we can welcome you back in the future to demonstrate that that these are isolated issues. Regards, Sol

Stratford upon Avon itself is beautiful and highly recommended. I’ve never stayed at the white swan so it was new for me. After looking on their website I managed to get a double room for £62 B+B. Arrived to be pleasantly surprised by the plush reception and friendly staff. Restaurant and bar areas are superb, all beamed and full of character. We stayed in room 301 which had a double bed, shower and bath. The room was again in good order and we were more then happy after check in. Now the negatives. Our room backed onto another building which had two big extractor funnels. These were a nightmare during the night and i can only describe it as having a lorry parked outside the window all night......no sleep at all. The shower didn’t drain away so to avert a flood we couldn’t use the shower. In the evening we chose to eat in the restaurant. We had the burgers priced at £11.50 each. I found these meals lack lustre and poor. We had to ask for more chips as the portion size was tiny. The burgers were overcooked and the plates just look sparse, a side salad or a bit of green on the side wouldn’t go a miss. Breakfast was again poor, poached eggs were overdone and dry, coffee was from thermos flasks on the bar and this coffee was tepid and not hot enough. Staff very friendly but I just feel the food was typical chain pub food and let the whole place down, to round it off I was overcharged. I raised all issues with reception and didn’t get any apology or even a gesture of good will. Will be returning to Stratford but unfortunately not the swan.

Dear Mark M, Thank you for your review. I was pleased to read that you chose to stay with us, and that you found the room and hotel in general to be pleasantly surprising. The warm welcome is always important too. In terms of the negative comments, sadly, there is nothing we can do about surrounding buildings as we are in the heart of the town - the extractor fans next door should be on a timer and go off at 11pm - We will speak with them to ensure other guests are not disturbed. I am sorry either dinner or breakfast were not to your liking - can you please contact me whiteswanhotelmanager@fullers.co.uk to discuss in more detail? I would like the opportunity to demonstrate that you did choose the right hotel, and that you should come back to stay with us next time you are back in Stratford. We look forward to seeing you next time. Regards, Sol

We spent New Years Eve and 1st January with friends staying at the White Swan Hotel, Stratford Upon Avon, what an excellent Hotel.
Absolutely nothing to complain about, the rooms are first class with comfortable beds (something which most hotels cannot achieve), our room had a large on suite with roll top bath and seperate walk in shower.

Our thanks go out to the hotel staff and the management who were very attentive and could not have been more helpful, a special thanks to the Chef and kitchen staff, the food is exceptional and very reasonably priced.

Thank you White Swan Hotel for an excellent start to 2020, we will be back.

Garry and Eileen

We upgraded our room which was really lovely but when we arrived on one of the hottest days of the year our room was like an oven. We rang reception only to be told that the whole of the second floor had been without air conditioning for the last two weeks and that it would be another week before it was repaired. For such a large company as Fullers this is not acceptable. The Duty Manager offered us another room on the third floor which was very dark and dismal and so we were not happy with it. They had put a Dyson fan in our room but it was no where strong enough even to cool the room down. I asked if there was another fan we could have as well but was told no. When i mentioned that I have Asthma and was finding the heat difficult to handle another Dyson appeared. The afore mentioned Manager did everything she could and we did appreciate it but we would have preferred to have been told about it before we arrived. There were nice complimentary toiletries in the bathroom as well as slippers and bath robes for our use. All in all, the Hotel is lovely and full of character. We had pre booked a table in the Hotel Restaurant for our first evening but again were left disappointed. Firstly we ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc which at £26.00 was not cheap. When the waiter poured some into my glass to taste it was very nice but also very warm which we certailny did not expect. I mentioned this to the waiter and asked if there was ice, expecting him to bring us an ice bucket. He brought us two glasses with ice and a spoon each.??? When i called a Manager over to complain he was apologetic and did offer us a replacement bottle but we settled for him putting it in the freezer for a while. I ordered steak cooked medium but it was a little more than well done. My Husband ordered chicken kiev which had no garlic butter inside and was extremely dry. After the shenanigans of the day so far we said nothing although the meal was not short of £90.00. I am afraid to say the same happened at Breakfast for the first two days with my Husbands request for lightly cooked eggs not only fried but poached as well not appearing. The Hotel staff were all very nice but sadlyI think lack training. For such a beautiful hotel it would not take much to elevate it.

Dear Debbieward8, Thank you for your review. I am pleased you found the hotel to be amazing. The issue with some of the air conditioning is frustrating. It has been working intermittently over the past 10 days or so, and as soon as we were aware of the issue, it was reported to the AC company, who visited the same day. It was decided that we needed to get a new compressor which was ordered by them before they left. Due to issues with covid, which include problems getting hardware there has been a delay in getting the part as they have been out of stock in the UK . As such we did purchase top of the range Dyson fans for those few affected rooms. Clearly not ideal, but beyond our control, sadly. I have spoken to the restaurant manager regarding your other comments on your dining experience, and thank you for mentioning this to me, I am really pleased that you found the staff here to be very nice - this is something we pride ourselves upon. They will all be really pleased to read that. Regards, Sol

With Covid I understood reasons behind not entering the rooms during stay and therefore having to ask if we wanty more tea, coffee etc but on arrival I expected to have enough to start off with. We had no sugar, teabags or biscuits. There was no choice of coffees either. I do feel we could have been offered each morning if we would like replenishing when we went for breakfast rather than having to ask. On the surface the room looked okay but the toilet paper was like tracing paper. The lighting was awful. The room felt dark and dingy. Yes it is the oldest pub int Stratford but our room was not authentic. On our last day for breakfast I ordered scrambled egg with salmon on soda bread. It came without the soda bread and when we mentioned this to the manager she said he was cooking it!! Very strange as it's bread. It did not materialize even after asking again. It eventually turned up with no apologies and too late. We were offered pastries on the last morning but not the previous mornings. Overall the service was not great.

Dear 486lorraineh, Thank you for your review. As you have mentioned on your review, with covid we are unable to enter rooms on stay -overs. As we mention to all guests on check-in and also state in the folder in the room, we are more than happy to deliver extra items to your room if you either call reception, or ask when you are passing. As i am sure you are aware, some people do not use these items in their room, and so as a matter of course we would not automatically ask everyone, but as stated it is absolutely no problem at all of us to provide more at any time. Each of our 41 bedrooms are different in terms of size, shape and decor, and as you mentioned, the building dates back almost 600 years. I regularly walk around the hotel and check everything, so I will have a look again at the lighting in your room. In relation to the sourdough bread, it was myself who served you and I advised that we had ran our - due to it being a bank holiday we did not get the usual delivery, and the reason for the delay in getting some to your table was that I sent someone out to a local store to buy some for you. I am sorry for the delay. I had a conversation with your husband regarding the issues you have mentioned in your review, and he understood the situation. I hope we can be of service again in the future. Regards, Sol

From the moment I booked everything was easy, I’d looked at reviews and pictures etc, however none of them did it justice.
Hannah on the desk is a credit to the hotel, nothing was too much trouble, we arrived early and our room wasn’t ready so we went for a walk and some food, she then called to say our room was ready when we were.
Check in was easy and when we walked into the room we were amazed, my jaw hit the floor when I saw it had the roll top bath I nearly cried. Everything was stunning, there was a slate that had Happy Birthday written in icing and a pile of goodies on it.
We slept well, the room was warm, hotel was quiet, and this morning we enjoyed one of the best breakfasts ever.

Not one fault from us, and even though all the staff must be worried about going into another lockdown they didn’t show it.
Well done and thank you, especially Hannah.

My husband booked us in here so I wasn’t sure what to expect. There is no hotel parking but the hotel sent us a choice of car parks with prices so we had a choice of pay and display Carpark. The Carpark we chose was £7 for 24 hours and about a 2 minute walk so that was fine.
On arrival at the hotel, I didn’t expect it to be on a Main Street, it didn’t seem that big but once we got inside we were shocked how big it was. The hotel is well presented with a nice outdoor terrace around the back to sit and have a drink/food. The receptionist on arrival was very friendly and polite so check in was very straightforward. The inside of the hotel is never ending, we eventually found our room and were pleasantly surprised. I normally like modern roomed but this was quirky & well presented with all that we needed and more.
Staff at restaurant were very friendly & food was very tasty & freshly cooked, both evening meal & breakfast were delicious.
As our room was facing the Main Street, we did have a few disturbances such as a drunk man singing outside for ages at 3am and then a delivery van beeping it’s horn a few times early morning. If we stayed here again we would request a room at the back of the hotel instead. Otherwise all good & would recommend.

Dear shaqe, Thank you so much for your stellar review!! We are happy to hear you had a positive experience at The White Swan! We value your input. I’m very pleased to hear you enjoyed our beautiful historic building, parts of the building date back to Circa. 1460 and rich with history, stories and culture! Thank you for the wonderful review and for taking the time to share your feedback with The White Swan.  Our priority is customer service and we are ecstatic that we met that mark! Kind folks like you make our job a pleasure. I can only apologise about the noise outside our premises. Sadly, there is not much we can do about the passing public but we do inform our night porter to speak to people who are making continuous noise surrounding the property during the unsavoury hours. I hope you still had a wonderful stay with us and you got the good sleep you deserve after this issue. Glad you had a lovely meal too, the Breakfast is one of my favourite's meals of the day as well! So, I am also delighted to hear you enjoyed all your food and drink with us in the morning. All the best and hope to see you again in the future,
