We stayed in One Holland House, the self-catering flat, recently and it was a really wonderful place to be in autumn. The huge and varied gardens are just on the doorstep, and the flat itself it very comfortable and homely. It's so easy to get to on public transport as well as in a car, and everyone who works there is friendly and ready to help you out. Would really recommend.
I've stayed at Woodbrooke several times now, usually in connection with meetings taking place on site. The whole place has such a peaceful feel and the staff go out of their way to help you feel welcome. My faourite place is the coffee lounge, which provides a quiet place to have a good coffee or to catch up on emails. The food is good with good choices for vegetarians. Bedrooms are small but well equipped. Wifi signal is good in communal areas.
Booked Woodbrooke for a single night as our family of 4 had to be near Selly Oak hospital for our daughter to visit the medical school. It is the complete opposite of the normal generic hotel / commercial b&b, being a large historic Quaker meeting house that also rents out rooms. We arrived late and the volunteers /staff could not have been more helpful in sorting out our rooms even changing them to ensure they were closer together (my fault for not asking in advance). The house is large and quirky with lots of small stairways, but the rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious with good bathrooms. Breakfast was also great with a help yourself buffet in a spacious dining room. The real beauty of Woodbrooke though is the relaxed, calm and friendly atmosphere with everyone happy to help. The garden room is lovely and filled with light .. a perfect place to read and relax ... and the garden itself, even in the winter, is beautiful. Location is also great with car parking on site, 5 to 10 minute drive to Selly Oak and a lovely relaxed 20 minute walk into Bournville and Cadbury World alongside parks and boating lakes. Thanks for a lovely stay... adults and kids all loved it!…
I just love staying at Woodbrooke! This was my third time and I highly recommend it, whether for simple B&B or for full board. I was on a week-end course, so I had all meals there and also had time to enjoy the beautiful grounds. The food is always excellent with good choices and nice vegetarian options. The staff are helpful and friendly and the rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable. There is also an excellent library (if you want to give the brain cells a little exercise!). I always find that my stay is both relaxing and rejuvenating. This is not just any other B&B, it is a Quaker Centre and worth experiencing.
We booked rooms here as we were attending a family party close by. We were a bit apprehensive as we are used to ‘hotel’ bed and breakfast and thought we might feel a little out of place as none of our party are Quakers. But how wrong we were... the staff are so welcoming and friendly! Nothing was too much trouble and the atmosphere is so relaxing and peaceful. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable. Lovely en-suites with our rooms with lovely toiletries for you to use. Beautiful cakes and hot drinks available in the garden room. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of hot food, porridge, cereals and gluten free options too! Well done Woodbrooke, your staff and volunteers are first class.
