Despite The Red Lion's positive reputation, we were extremely disappointed with the service we received today. The Afternoon Tea was delicious and included a huge variety of goodies. However this was sadly overshadowed by the unfriendly, inattentive and abrupt staff. In addition to their attutude, they would also not accommodate our request for a gluten-free tea because we hadn't mentioned... More

Hotel is located very close to the centre, and only a few minutes walk from the Cathedral. Lovely old hotel, with open fire in large lounge. Buffet style breakfast with good choice of food. Parking is a big problem, as hotel only has 6 spaces. We stayed in room 22 in the oldest part of the hotel, and found that... More

This is probably the worst food I have ever eaten at a Christmas party,I ordered prawn cocktail ,the plate was full of lettuce and three of the smallest shrimps the rest was subsidised with melon ,the turkey meal was cold , the soup tasteless the Christmas pudding when I eventually got it was the size of a 50p the creme... Stayed in the annexe not the main building which was a shame, room a good size modern and comfortable. However was kept awake until 1.00 am from traffic and revellers as the annexed rooms adjoin a busy road. Parking was a problem as there is no car park and the public free overnight car park was full. Had dinner here... More

This hotel is well located in the city centre. It claims to be 13th century, in part. Booking was straightforward and the service efficient and courteous. The room was clean and quiet, comfortable. Would use this hotel again.

I've stayed here for two weekends now. The rooms are large and the beds comfortable. The showers work well, that is, you don't need to run around in it to get wet and the water is hot. The bar is a little basic but they serve a good range of beers. I'm not sure the breakfast is £20 worth, but... More

I enjoyed my stay at the Red Lion. It is central and it is very comfortable. There are lots of nice places to eat and drink on the doorstep. I would recommend it. One heads-up for travellers - you really do need to book the parking as the car park is tiny. I had a lot of trouble getting my... More
