Come up from London with some friends to enjoy some of the splendour the Cotswolds has to offer. We enjoyed amazing scenic walks in and around Broadway with the Broadway Tower being our highlight for its 360 views. We stayed in a lovely AirBnB for 2 nights and managed to find The Broadway Hotel and their Jockey Bar to be one of our new favourite finds in the village. Greeted and entertained by friendly and quirky staff, the bar tenders made us chuckle and we enjoyed quizzing their knowledge on different wines and their vast gin collection. The young South African gentleman with the tie and glasses was very professional and vibrant. You can clearly see the staff are passionate about their jobs, hence why we stayed for dinner on both nights during our stay in the Village. We felt relaxed and at home even though we were not hotel guests The Suffolk Pork steaks and Fish and Chips were lovely and will be coming back again soon. A beautiful hotel and all round pleasant experience would recommend The Broadway Hotel to all of my friends and family.…
Snug room was basic and up very steep stairs. Pigeons nesting in plants round window woke us at 6am every day. Food was good and plentiful but one dish was undercooked and had to be returned, this got a rude reception! The location is excellent and there is a car park and outside space which is good.
A lovely sunny early evening last Saturday saw us going for a drink at the Broadway. Two waiters standing idly in the garden - when asked - politely said drinks should be ordered from the bar. Stood at the bar for 8 and a half minutes whilst two, and at times three, bar staff busied themselves preparing drinks for the restaurant and one other man waiting for his cocktails. Not an issue but I was the only person waiting so you would have thought a "good evening sir, be with you in a moment" or a "sorry to keep you sir be right with you" or a "take a seat sir I will come out to you as soon as I can". Standing there in utter silence watching the bar staff mixing cocktails I gently enquired if I should come back and how long should I leave it. This seemed to infuriate the youngest member of the staff who testily replied "we are busy we will be with you when we can". I said "would it help if I came back" - he replied "I have told you we are busy". 10 minutes waiting in silence I wondered if I should leave. The young man eventually said "right what do you want" (no "sorry to keep you sir"). I asked what the house white wine was - he replied sarcastically "we have red or white". I politely asked again what the the house white was he said "it is a chenin blanc". I said that would be great. So with a pint of beer and a glass of wine I paid the bill using a credit card - at no time did he say "that will be x pounds please" or "thank you" or 'sorry you had to wait so long sir". I paid and said thank you - but he walked off. Took the drinks out to the lovely sunny garden past the two idle waiters who were standing chatting and sat down. My wife said what on earth kept me. Beautiful evening - in a lovely setting - in a nice garden. We wondered why at 8pm on a saturday night the bar and the garden was mostly empty. I think I now know why. I fully appreciate that bar staff are at times very busy and that customers have to wait - that is absolutely not an issue with me. Clearly the young man hated his job and was in no mood to be even the slightest bit polite. I wonder if a career in the hospitality industry is really his destiny. To be fair the bar staff seemed exceptionally skilled at mixing cocktails - so I assume they have had some good training....just not in very basic social skills. It takes very little to be polite. And rudeness to a customer is not acceptable - no matter how busy you are or how much you hate your job.…
This lovely old building in the Town Centre is perfectly placed. The staff are really friendly and efficient. The food is very good, and it is such an easy Town to get around. We were there for the Weekend, (My wifes Birthday treat) and it didn't disappoint. I thought of commending one staff member, but they were all so good and worked very hard, it would be impossible.
Very nice hotel, mostly above its 3 stars. Staff extremely pleasant, very good service. Lovely having the residents garden as Broadway was very busy. Strange that the bar and restaurant menus were the same - no snacks available ie sandwiches, jacket potatoes etc. A couple of flies in the ointment though. Breakfast certainly wasn’t great over the 3 mornings. The fruit plate consisted of 2 paper thin slices of melon, thin slice each of grapefruit and orange and one quartered strawberry. The pancakes were crunchy, cold and unpleasant and it was strange that croissants or Danish were offered before the main The room was pleasant and comfortable but no soundproofing from room above. This left nothing to the imagination in the evening. I’ll say no more there but will stress that, mostly, a very pleasant stay…
