The Radisson Blu Hotel in Cardiff draws praise for its prime location, well-regarded for being close to city attractions yet away from the clamor of bars. Guests have lauded the hotel's cleanliness and the inviting atmosphere it offers, despite some calling out the decor as outdated. While certain travelers have enjoyed spacious rooms with impressive views, others have found the rooms lacking modern amenities and not providing enough value, especially considering the high parking fees.
Opinions are split on the amenities; the comfortable beds and breakfast variety receive compliments, but issues with room service and Wi-Fi are points of contention. Service quality appears to be inconsistent, with reports of both commendable and disappointing encounters with staff.

Detailed Reviews
I stayed in this hotel on New Years Eve with my boyfriend. Although I’m aware it was New Years Eve I still think £180 is extremely over priced for a single night. The bathroom was spotlessly clean. I would have liked if they had supplied both a shampoo and conditioner (especially after paying 180£) as we had to go out and buy our own. The room was quite basic but very comfortable with a flat screen which we enjoyed. The small table at the bottom of the bed beneath the television was quite worn, as were the lampshades. One of the main faults besides the ridiculous price is that I felt the carpet in the room could have done with a deep clean as stains were visible. One of the two elevators was broken but thankfully we were allowed access to the staff elevator which was great however on our way to check out we had to wait about 10 minutes for an elevator to arrive at our floor which I thought was quite excessive. The location could not be any better, bang in the center of Cardiff with everything at your doorstep and no need for transport. The receptionists were very friendly and welcoming.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and taking your time to write to us about your stay. We are pleased to see that you enjoyed your overall stay and we have taken your feedback on board regarding the guest room amenities and will review our offering for future to provide best value for money for our guest. Unfortunately, the left hand side lift, due to an unforeseen breakdown, has been out of order for a considerable amount of time while new parts are been designed, manufactured and the lift machinery modernised to increase efficiency. In order to minimize the inconvenience, we recommend our guests to also use our Service lift situated at the opposite end of the bedroom corridors, in the car park or through the Breakfast Restaurant double doors on the 1st floor. Thank you again for your constructive feedback and we look forward to welcome you when your travel brings you to Cardiff. Yours Sincerely, Sameer Gangoli Operations Manager

I'd give this a positive 3.5
Staff were polite and attentive, and upbeat at all times. Room was spacious and clean.
Room service was prompt, although for the price the food quality could have been better. Although the delivered breakfast was its saving grace (this was included) I decided to have food delivered to the hotel for the remainder of my stay.
The lift is still broken, although not sure why? It was comical to say the least. The lift stopped on almost every floor which was empty due to most people giving up. I would suggest adding an extra 10 to 15 minutes to your journey if you're on one the higher floors.
If you decline housekeeping, you're entitled to money off a main or a free bottle of wine for helping the environment as such, which is a nice touch.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and taking your time to write to us about your experience. We are sorry to see that your almost perfect stay was disrupted due to the quality of the food and one of the lift which went out of order. I have shared your feedback with my head chef who has reviewed the food offering and made necessary changes. In terms of the lift , this was an unforeseen situation where we had to put on of the lift out of service keeping safety of our guest in mind and to compensate for which we have a service lift on the other end of every guest corridor which has been open for guest use. I hope this experience will not refrain you from using us in the future and you will give us another chance on your next visit. Yours Sincerely, Sameer Gangoli Operations Manager

Booked the Radisson blu as a surprise weekend away for my boyfriend, this hotel made a fantastic weekend even better! I mentioned it was for a birthday and they did everything they could to make it special, the location is perfect right in the centre of everything you need, the only downside is the car park is a bit pricey at £25 per 24 hours and only having 17 spaces, it’s secure and pin entry so for security its good, the John Lewis is also an alternative opposite and to be honest the hotel and staff more then make up for it in experience. we stayed on the 17th floor and the views over the city were beautiful. The room was big and spacious giving a really airy feel and was spotless. All the staff we spoke to were very polite and helpful offering transport options and opinions on the best way to see as much as we could, they constantly checked we were ok and was enjoying ourselves and honestly made our weekend!

Mixed feelings here. Booked executive room with city view for the Friday before the rugby.
The first room was, in my opinion, far from ‘executive’. There was only one hard chair at the desk. No comfy seats to sit on so not ideal for two people. No coffee machine as advertised. Carpet outside bathroom had clearly suffered water damage. Only one hand towel. No newspapers. The room was no where near the photo of the room on the website.
After a call to reception we were moved to another room with a better view. This did have a coffee machine but still only one hard chair and one hand towel. After a visit to reception and a chat with the manager who was very apologetic a comfy chair and a second hand towel was delivered to the room. It was indicated that photos on the Cardiff website were not representative of their rooms ( question - is this a breach of trades description as you are showing a photo that bears no resemblance to what is provided)
Following that we noted that the flex on the kettle was damaged with last pat test in nov 2018. The hair drier did not have a pat test sticker on.
Kettle replaced quickly.
We came to an amicable agreement but the initial experience was not what one expects for a premium room at a very premium price.
If not for the courtesy and response of the manager, this would be a one star rating. This was a very disappointing experience.

I booked a two-night stay at the start of year. Given the coronavirus pandemic I was unsure whether to go ahead, but after various reassuring corporate emails I did.
I called ahead to ask for the Gold rewards room upgrade and was told it was impossible. The staff member was incredibly curt and offered no apology.
On the same call I asked about car parking and was not possible to reserve a space, just that parking was available on a first come basis. Despite evidence to the contrary (see picture).
Upon arrival, the sign outside the hotel showed there were five spaces available. But when I pushed the intercom I was told it was full and the staff member promptly hung up. I pushed the buzzer again to ask if I could turn the car rather then reverse onto a busy main road, but there was no answer.
Getting to the room there was no gift for Gold Rewards members. (Not the most important thing, but it’s an advertised member benefit). Towels in the room had holes in them! There was only one tea bag, just paper cups (despite glass wear in the bathroom) and no biscuits.
Only one of the two main lifts were operational. Guests could however use the service lift. Hand sanitiser stations throughout the hotel were more often than not empty. At least two were never refilled during my two-day stay.
The breakfast menu was reduced with no option to request scrambled or poached eggs.
I’ve been a loyal and satisfied Raddison customer for many years and this the worst stay I’ve ever had. Customer service needs urgent improvement.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and taking your time to write to us about your stay. We are sorry to see that we did not meet your expectation on this occasion. We do not reserve car park space for our guest arrivals and is limited spaces which is given out on first come first serve basis, once a car park space is occupied by a guest and is paid for, we do reserve the space for them if they wish to take the car out during their stay. We do appologise for the wait for the lifts as one of the guest lift is currently being upgraded , to avoid any inconvenience and to enable smooth flow of traffic we have a service lift on the other end of the guest room corridors that leads to the floors and reception, this has been made accessible for the guest to use. I have taken up the issues that you have mentioned in your room with regards to the quality of linen and lack of amenities like biscuits with my Housekeeping team and we have taken all corrective actions to avoid any re occurrence. We hope this experience will not refrain you from using us in the future and you will give us another opportunity to serve you better. Yours Sincerely, Sameer Gangoli Operations Manager

We stayed in the raddisons blue hotel Cardiff ,As me and my partner walked in to the lobby, we thought it looked really nice! But as soon as we got our cards and walked to the area where the lift was, we were appalled, there were all water stains on the sealing and one of the lifts was out of order. The worst thing was the people next to us said ‘let’s hope we don’t get stuck in this lift again’, not a good start. We went in to the room and the smell of damp hit us both. We started to look around the room and noticed that everything was just off. 3 of the lights in the room did not work, the Apple TV did not work, the bed side light-shade was all ruffled and scuffed, the coffee table was all chipped, the rug was stained and this is not even all the issues. Dust was everywhere, even the complimentary pencil was covered in dust. Neither of us really checked out the shower properly until the next morning. But when we had showers, were felt sick. There was black mould all up on the ceiling, the grout in the tiles were covered in mould and the shower screen had turned all pink at the bottom from limescale. After seeing this we looked around the bathroom and saw that the toilet had mould all around the toilet rim, the grout on the floors was half white and half black from where it had not been cleaned properly. After seeing all of this, we packed out stuff up and went to the front desk. We explained what had happened to the front desk manager, who rudely said ‘why did you tell us this before?’ We responded saying we did not notice till the morning. We were going to let the rest slide until we saw the mould. He then rudely said ‘you need to contact booking.com as you booked through them’ we were quite shocked at this and we answered with okay and walked off. Not even a apology was given at any point. All together the staff are rude and the place is filthy. I am appalled at this hotel. I do not recommended

Having stayed in other Cardiff Carty centre hotels I was very disappointed by this one.
A small and usually full car park is no fun especially when you have to park in an NCP not exactly around the corner if it is full.
Reception staff nice enough, not rude anyway but the majors problem with this hotel is the lift which has been broken for several months.
This leaves only one operational lift and lift waiting times can amount to many minutes with the likelihood of a crammed sardine lift door eventually opening on your designated floor.
Given that people are checking in and out with large suitcases and possibly staying on the 21st floor that is a joke.
Anyway rooms can be fairly small with the servicing sporadic, sometimes not serviced at all and without all the usual requirements provided (sugar etc)
Breakfast also distinctly average with tired looking food and no sighting of any scrambled eggs etc.
My advice is simple, this hotel keeps lazily apologising for the fact that one of the 2 public lifts is broken and has been for a long time. This is a major inconvenience and there is clearly no rush to do anything about it so I would dream of staying here again until both lifts do work.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We're delighted to hear that you were pleased with the level of service that you received from our reception staff. On the other hand, it saddens us to know if you were not completely satisfied with your stay due to the parking situation, the quality of food and and if some lifts were not up to its best state at that time. It is our top priority to provide our valued guests with the maximum satisfaction and we're sorry if we may have fell short of that standard. Your feedback is highly beneficial to us as it helps us ensure that the quality of the services that we offer are up to brand standards. It would be an honor if you would reconsider and give us another chance so we may turn your displeasure into a smile.

8-10th Oct 2021. Arrived at 11.30am parked car went to reception told our Executive room we had requested was being cleaned that was fine as we were attending a family lunch and would be back at around 3.00pm to check in. At check in the lady said our requested room was already allocated. A man in a suit said a guest had been in the room for the past month. (Why not read special requests and offer an alternative room.) A man i was told was manager was rude to me and no help at all. Eventually after 30 min we were allocated room 701. This Is Our Executive Experience. Panoramic windows but no view over the city. No fridge, no coffee machine, Safe did not work, No bath robe/slippers carpet was a mixture of different carpet cutoffs with heavy stains and loose underfoot with lifting edges/creases, plain walls with no pictures and filthy dirty net curtains. The Bathroom was spotlessly clean however on previous stays the toilet has a seal tape across it.
On ringing reception a coffee machine was brought to us followed by Bath robes (no slippers) and a fridge. Our neighbours in room 711 and their friends from floor 9 were all having a domestic mostly outside 711 with swearing slamming doors shouting fighting on Sat night between 7.30pm -1.30am. We have stayed at the Radisson Blu Cardiff about 25 times and this is the worst experience to date.
On checking out again i made my feelings known and asked to speak to Sarah the Manager. Sarah was on a day off and i was asked to leave my contact details so Sarah could deal with my complaint this was nearly a week ago. I have taken photos of all above and am thinking of going to MCOL as we did not have an executive experience this stay more like a budget experience.
Not looking for a reply as your management at front of house have told me enough lies and used covid as an excuse for poor standards. Regards Ian and Estelle.

We have used this hotel many times before for rugby events, the location is great and the staff are generally very good especially in the restaurant. However the lift system, with one out of three lifts not functioning and the service lift was the second lift being used, was being constantly overloaded by (sorry to have to say it) French rugby supporters and on one descent and with 12 people (the maximum) already in the lift, the French folks kept inviting more people onto the lift as it stopped on the way down. Despite our protests, there were 16 people in the lift which then jerked and bumped it's noisy and creaking descent and would not locate parallel to the door where it was supposed to open. You can imagine how hot and what lack of air there was inside this stuck lift. Finally the doors part opened and we had a half metre step down to get out of the lift, a very frightening experience indeed. I immediately lodged complaints with the front desk staff who apologised, but NOTHING was done about the lifts being overloaded, poor management ?? If your guests are not taking safety concerns properly then surely the hotel has to step in and either monitor or impose some restrictions, safety is the primary duty of care by any hotel, Radisson Blu Cardiff fell far short of this protocol and although I have stayed many times here, we will not stay here again nor invite friends to stay here either, if you value your safety! You should consider that on Sunday Feb 23rd only the service lift was working, I bet I can guess how the other lift next to reception broke down !!!

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and taking the time to write your feedback. We are sorry to see the unfortunately incident you encountered in the lift. We do have warning signs in our lifts regarding the maximum capacity and unfortunately we cannot monitor or control the overflow in the lifts at all times, hence we rely on our guests for responsible usage of the guest lift. As you already mentioned that the breakdown of the lift happened due to high volume of guests boarding the lift on that occasion. Our team as soon as they were aware of the lift breakdown acted proactively in order to rectify the situation. I do appologise and empathise with the inconvenience this must have caused. We are currently working with our owners to replace both of our lifts to smart lifts which will improve the weight capacity and the speed. Please be assured that we take health and safety of our guest very seriously and we hope this experience will not refrain you from using us in the future and you will give us another chance on your next visit to Cardiff. Yours Sincerely, Sameer Gangoli Operations Manager

Stayed at this hotel for one night, complimentary due to a problem my partner had on an previous visit. I was not present on that visit and was expecting a decent standard from a Radisson Blu Hotel. Started well with check in, polite and friendly. First problem was that only one lift was working and our room was on the 15th floor. Signs clearly stating that only 2 persons allowed in lift at a time, this means that we were waiting for about 20mins to get in the lift. The room was listed as a superior room, as soon as we entered it was clear that the room was extremely dated. I was immediately struck by the apparent dirty marks on the headboard and the abysmal one pillow each on the bed, We subsequently found markings on the carpet and chair and other faults (see attached photo's). We immediately complained and were offered to be moved to another room. We next had a standard room on the 10th floor. Decor wise I have to say that the standard room was way better than the superior room but another problem, the air conditioning was not working. After it had been looked at and could not be repaired we were moved again to an executive room on the 18th floor. This room was a much better standard and suited us throughout our stay. The lift continued to provide frustration. I had seen a sign asking that the one lift be used for going to rooms and the service lift for leaving rooms. No directions to service lift and we never found it. If you called Iifts often the lift would arrive coming down with people in and due to covid you had to wait for it to come back, problem was if people got back in on ground level and went to floors above you it becomes full again of people coming down. The lift also seemed to stop randomly at different floors and no-one was there, presumably that had called lift, given up and taken the stairs. Breakfast was well organised and absolutely fine and checkout again was quick and hassle free. This hotel clearly needs some major refurbishment or it will continue to attract comments such as mine. Please sort out the problem with the lift and if there is a service lift then please make sure it can be easily found. Although location is very good I would definitely not recommend in its current state.

Response from Sameer Gangoli, General Manager at Radisson Blu Hotel, Cardiff
Responded 24 Aug 2020
Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and taking your time to write to us about your stay. We are sorry to see that we did not meet your expectation on this occasion. We understand the frustration that the wait for the lift must have caused and we are sorry for that. We are currently upgrading on of our guest lift to provide better experience for the guest. In order to manage smooth flow of traffic we have also enable our service lift for guest usage which is on the other end of the corridors leading to guest rooms, parking and front desk. We are currently working with our owners very hard on refurbishment of the hotel and this will resolve the issue of dated furniture in the bedroom. I can assure that our housekeeping team is trained to make sure that the cleanliness standards are maintained as per the brand requirements and I am sorry to see that we failed on this occasion which is a one off occurrence. I hope this experience will not refrain you from using us in the future and you will give us another chance to serve you better. Yours Sincerely, Sameer Gangoli Operations Manager

Hi, At present you only require a key card for your bedroom.
I only stopped there a few weeks ago and the lifts were working normally.
