Stayed for three nights as a getaway after Christmas. We travelled by train and the hotel was fairly easy to find, about 10-15 minutes walk from the station. The check-in was quick and painless and we were given a room on the 8th floor of this 10-floor hotel so the room was quiet away from the street noise. We didn't eat in the hotel, mainly because the choice of food didn't suit our tastes and we wanted to sample food in the neighbouring restaurants. The Main Street is only about a 5 minute walk from the hotel and St. David's Shopping Mall is about the same distance. The room was clean and comfortable and we would have had a great night's sleep if it hadn't been for the fact that the room was cold, despite turning the heating control up to its maximum of 30 degrees! We were surprised that there was no telephone in the room and were amazed that, despite knowing that two people were booked into the room for three nights, the management had only provided one bath towel and one hand towel. On our way out on the first morning we attempted to ask for additional towels at reception but couldn't find anyone until I went into the restaurant and asked if anyone was available in Reception. Despite these small issues, we would return mainly due to the great location.

Hotel's Favourite
Well, it's Premier Inn, so what is there to say? Young but very friendly and helpful staff. They were happy to keep my bags safe until I was able to check in. Room was very clean and spacious. Hotel is about 12 minute walk from the main station or 2 or 3 minutes from Queen Street. It's right on Queen Street with lots of shops and restaurants, close to the St David Shopping Centre, the Museum and Art Gallery and New Theatre. There are also buses just outside but did not investigate these. Take to room dining was available from the restaurant although on initially going down I was told it would be 30 minute wait. I went down later and it was not so long but they did not have the fish that I wanted so had a burger instead. Typical Thyme restaurant food, now wonderful but okay. Downside with a lot of luggage and a wheelie case was that there were two small flights of steps up to the hotel - I could not see whether there was step-free access at another entrance but assume there must be. Will stay again next time I am in Cardiff

Despite the incredible location and amazing price we paid, the poor standard of cleanliness in the stairs - as well as the general standard of decor there - combined with the unfriendly welcome we received at check-in and the fact that the heating and extractor fans in both of the rooms we had did not work did not really compensate for this. Fortunately we really only wanted a B&B - the breakfast quality and the staff there were exemplary and were a high point of the visit - and this Premier Inn gave us this. However, having never given a Premier Inn anything less than 5/5 this one really seems to need a bit of TLC.

Can't complain about the location which is across the road from Queen Street station, and just off the main shopping area in Cardiff. Good-sized rooms that were clean and comfortable. However, the water thermostat was broken in my bathroom, so my showers were either weak and lukewarm and strong and cold. I think the hotel was short-staffed as there didn't appear to be enough people on reception or in the restaurant. Everyone was very apologetic but there were long waits to be checked in, and breakfast service was a little chaotic.
