The Cardiff Bay Hotel sits in a prime location adored by many for its proximity to Cardiff Bay and nearby attractions. While some guests commend the hotel for its spotless rooms and comfortable atmosphere, others have pointed out maintenance and cleanliness issues. The service quality appears to be unpredictable, with accolades for friendly staff contrasting reports of understaffing and slow service. The hotel's amenities, including breakfast options, receive mixed reviews, with some travelers facing challenges such as inconsistent WiFi. Despite the varied experiences, the breakfast is often noted for its value.

A classic example of how a new premier inn should be! Everything being new was great, quick lifts, very clean rooms and the staff were very friendly. The only disappointing thing was the lack of vegan options at breakfast. However for those who eat meat there was a good range with an extensive buffet. Having had a 7 story room the view of Cardiff bay was great. Q-Park next door was efficient, ticket validated at reception was easy enough and made the parking a good price, although i do prefer to take public transport to these places; its more environmentally friendly! Overall a very good stay for just £29 for the night, excellent value as always from Premier Inn

We've stayed in several Premier Inns over the years and, let's be honest, they are all pretty much the same. They work to a standard formula, which is fine, and guests, generally, enjoy the same experience at each one. So I've come to realise that there are two main differentiators to tell them apart which I use to rate them - location and service.

Location
We stayed in this one from 10.08.2020 to 14.08.2020 and it is in a superb spot. Ideal for what we wanted, it must be said (it's, literally, just round the corner from our daughter's flat, so perfect for us when we're visiting), but also no more than 5-10 mins walk to the restaurants and waterfront at Cardiff Bay and probably 20-30 mins walk into Cardiff Town Centre although there are also bus stops out side the main entrance

Service
Every single member of staff we came across was a joy. Always, very pleasant with a kind word and nothing was too much trouble. Especially in these difficult times of pandemic they were extremely careful and conscientious and we felt very safe indeed.

I suspect that this is a fairly new Premier Inn as it still had that 'new carpet' smell, it was very quiet and peaceful and from our experience we will definitely be back and cannot speak more highly of it

This is a quite new hotel close to Mermaid Quay
It’s in a great position with a 5 minute walk to all the bars and restaurants and to the harbour where for £5 you can get a boat to Cardiff central
There is a bus stop outside the hotel and the train station is a 5minute walk
We stayed As 4 friends in two rooms. Usual standard of rooms and a really comfy bed!
Decent shower
All very clean
Lifts and air con

We had the breakfast which was great and buffet style
All staff friendly
Car park is next door to the hotel which you have to pay for. You get 25% off the parking on one occasion only.
It was £11.20 per night with discount

The whole area is brilliant. Your a stones throw from the opera house, welsh parliament building and the BBC Cardiff building
MermAid quay is a well manicured cosmopolitan area with plenty of places to eat and drink

Loved it

This is a fairly new Premier Inn and you get exactly what you expect from a Premier Inn. Good sized rooms with all the plugs/mirrors/usb sockets in right places and their oh so comfy beds : )

Storm Ciara was raging, but the excellent sound proofing and heating meant we were not disturbed and had a couple of very cosy nights.

Staff were extremely helpful - bus timetables checked and advice about taxis etc. Nenna (hope I got it right) went above and beyond when (on a Sunday evening) she produced wrapping paper, scissors and sellotape! (I'd bought a present for the birthday party we were attending and completely forgotten to get wrapping paper or gift bag, casually asked at reception and hey presto!)

Really enjoyed this stay and with parking literally next door (and at a discounted rate for hotel guests), I would stay again if visiting this area.

Check in was from 2pm on day of arrival. We arrived 30 mins before this and were prepared to sit with a drink in the lounge area whilst rooms were readied! There were approx 30 guests waiting after 2pm for rooms that were not ready whilst other customers newly arriving were allocated rooms!! Reception staff not in any position to advise when rooms were going to be ready but advised that we could remain in the lounge and purchase drinks at our own expense until rooms were ready! A room was allocated to us approx 2.45pm but on entry this room had clearly not been cleaned with beds unmade and other guests body hair on the toilet seat! On complaint we were allocated another room. This room appeared clean although my wife insisted on cleaning surfaces with antibacterial wipes before use. No hand towel in the bathroom and very noisy air conditioning. Television on the wall was hanging at an angle but we were not prepared to correct this in case it fell off the wall!

Covid excuses at the ready seems to be the new norm. On your booking email you'll see the clues. "We may take longer to get your room ready" being the most notable. We stayed here 3 nights. Check in was a sorry sight. The automatic check in terminals direct you to the solitary person on reception. This did become 2 people however the queue was literally out of the building. So check in is awful, especially for the families, the area is pretty small too. The rooms are very small compared to other PI and a family room is a jigsaw of squeezing beds in. They have to take away the bedside table to do this. Our room was ok but the bed sheet was not actually bug enough to fit the bed. The view was miserable and window filthy. Cardiff prison has a better view. The room wont get cleaned during the stay. We did ask nicely if we could have some soap and toilet paper after day 2 as we'd run out, but no one came to do it after 10 hours. So back to reception, queue and wait while put upon staff retrieve it. Ditto clean towels and tea and coffee. If you want your bin emptied, again, do it yourself in reception. Premier inn has a worrying model which is turning them into a hotel version of Ryanair. Book and for an early breakfast, but the food is brought to you. Not a great arrangement. Food is cold, as the piles of hot items are left on the counter whilst staff pick through and plate up. Eggs are hard, bacon stone cold and its easily the worst example of a PI breakfast going. Staff are very nice and try to help but the sheer numbers of people booked is is killing them. PI clearly have booked out the hotel and there are cracks in this covid era valiant staff cannot deal with. Final word goes to parking. The bay is shocking for this and guests at the premier inn are held hostage to use the 1200 space q park next door. It's chargeable every time you leave so you're wise to budget £ 15 to £ 20 a day. Ouch.

Very clean hotel and welcoming staff that couldn’t do enough for us. We checked in on Saturday 1st at the check in time just after 2pm and it was very busy in the reception area. The staff were working very hard to get the queues down and apologised for having to wait. Which we are used to now during the pandemic! We were fully informed on covid measures in place when being checked in and the receptionist did a good job of putting us at ease. We asked about things to do locally which she looked up and printed out for us. This being the first time that we have travelled she reassured us they have strict cleaning schedules. They did a great job of social distancing the reception areas with hand sanitiser and mapped out foot prints of where to wait. We have seen staff cleaning and they were wearing gloves and aprons the whole hotel is spotless. We used the Q carpark next door which I know does not belong to the hotel. We were not given a ticket upon entering the carpark and did not know what to do next but the staff advised us what to do to get our discount.

A great location near to the bay area, with good transport links into the city. Go by bus and get a family travel voucher, so much cheaper than Individual tickets.

The hotel was quiet busy as it was half term and being a budget choice we were happy with the level of busyness, but never felt overwhelmed.

Breakfast was good and the staff were great and coped at busy times very well.

Service in the room was less than satisfactory, requests for additional towels and pillows had to be followed up more than twice and towels in the room and shower gel were not replaced as no cleaning service was made during our 3 day stay.

We are currently staying here with my family and it has been my sons birthday while we are away. This hotel is spotless. The room was exceptionally clean we were incredibly impressed by this. Measures in place to ensure social distancing made us feel at ease. Restaurants indoors are not open yet and we were a little unsure of what to or what there was to see. We arrived early and although we didn’t want a room to check in to we did want to leave our luggage but due to the virus they were unable to do this which we fully understood. The receptionist went out of her way to find out if there was a room for us to leave our belongings in meaning we could go out for the day. As I was leaving we mentioned we wanted to take a visit Barry island but didn’t know what was there or to see. The receptionist said she lives there and recommended places to go for us. She wrote a list of things to do that are free and we were spoilt for choice. The weather has been good to us today and we visited some of these places which has cost us very little. We had a great time and look forward to exploring Cardiff tomorrow.

Came here during august 2020, arrived and settled in well, room very clean, everywhere seems well sanitised. Can’t fault the room, WiFi good. Came down the breakfast, made to wait 15 mins for table. Then spent 15 mins waiting for a simple few cups of orange juice and got a mug for tea with no tea bag. The whole operation took around an hour and a half off the trip. Second day breakfast is a joke. Booked for 9, ordered straight away, no drinks for 50 mins, god knows how much longer until food, been waiting well over an hour, questioned and was assured would be seen to. Not sure whether lack of staff or pure incompetence from staff. How hard to serve up a ready made breakfast. DO NOT PURCHASE breakfast during COVID unless you want to spend half your trip being hungry waiting for the breakfast. Which when it came was actually a good breakfast. Stay would be great if the one waitress was more worried about the customers waiting. I’ve always had good experiences in the past with premier inn but will not be eating here during COVID again until self service. Superb job cleaners room looks great. (Just heard another family complaining breakfast took near on 2 hours)
