Hotel's Favourite
We stayed here for 2 nights last weeks. The location is so close to plenty of bars and restaurants and our room had a lovely view of the castle. The room itself was smart with an extremely comfy bed. I had a text a few times from the staff asking if they could do anything else to improve my stay. Not quite as good as the Waldorf Astoria in Edinburgh as they do that before you even check in, but a very nice touch nevertheless. The swimming pool was very nice and all managed in a covid safe way. We managed to book our slot online before we checked in. The breakfast was served by staff in a Buffett format which seems to be the norm at the moment. Plenty of choice and food very tasty. The bar on an evening had a very relaxed atmsophere, and on both evenings, although different staff, all of them were very welcoming and were a credit to the hotel and the Hilton brand. I would just like to express slight disappointment that the executive lounge wasn’t open, but that a side I couldn’t really fault this hotel. When other hotels are bumping their prices up, and the service has a lot a lot to be desired, the Hilton Cardiff seems to be certainly upholding there standards. Would certainly recommend.

Where shall I start!!!! - The dirtiest carpet ever seen - Bathroom flooded and other people’s gunk came out of the sewer while I took shower - Moulded tiles with worst shower ever - Smelly corridor - Rip off parking charges (23 per night) - windows so thin that you can hear street noise all night - Most uncomfortable mattress and pillows you can ever imagine - Rude receptionist (couldn’t see bloke’s name) This hotel is a big letdown under Hilton’s umbrella and not sure why people are rating it high. It’s a dump in the middle of Cardiff (that’s the only positive thing I would say). Better to stay at Premier Inn or other hotel as the high price you pay here isn’t justifiable.

Fantastic hotel, beautifully designed with terrific space standards and fresh new furniture. Room service was great, with choice and quality. Location excellent. Manager, Quentin, was really flexible and helpful in a complex situation in which we found ourselves. Car Park is like something out of a crime movie, makes for an exciting parking experience. Breakfast was good quality. Rooms are lovely, spacious with huge bathrooms. Highly recommended.

Some of the more negative reviews were a bit worrying to read as we had booked four nights. Our experience was overall excellent in this prestige hotel. All staff encountered were polite, friendly and helpful. The room was a good size, well looked after with a king sized bed which was very comfortable. It was our first visit to Cardiff, we paid extra for a view of the castle and it was well worth it. Breakfast was a buffet with the cooked food served to you from one part and everything else self service, as much as you liked. Excellent food and the veggie sausages became my favourite each day. We mostly ate out as the hotel is very central in Cardiff with lots of choice close by. We did have a couple of snacks in the bar area and the chips were some of the best I have had anywhere. A few areas for improvement could be commented on such as the mould in the grout behind the shower door and TV only working on BBC1, ITV and Channel 5 with a few random other channels thrown in. There didn’t seem to be any hotel information available either in the room or on the TV. The car park is a bit of a walk away and this was not clear when booking the hotel. Castle street is closed to traffic which my sat nav ignored and I nearly ended up driving round in circles when trying to leave Cardiff a couple of times. Despite the closure the road was being resurfaced at night (only) all through the week we were staying and the noise continued till about 4 am. No warning of this was received and the first night we couldn’t work out what was going on. These were minor issues and did not detract from the overall enjoyment of our stay in Cardiff. You could not wish for a better location and we would definitely recommend this hotel. The fifth star was earned because of the friendliness and helpfulness of the people who could not have done more.

Room Tip: Third floor was good for us. When parking look for the yellow Hilton sign above the entrance...
