We stayed at this hotel for two nights for a pre Christmas getaway and loved it. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, we had two twin rooms which were very clean and modern with a nice walk in shower. The breakfast was yummy and the hotel is in a nice area overlooking the water and only a 20 minute walk to Cardiff bay and the city centre. We would stay here again when coming to Cardiff.

Easy to check in and it's great to be able to do that at 2pm. And again great to have a midday check out. It's a real advantage for us which is a good reason to choose the hotel already. Additionally, the barrier operated car park has a charge for £10 a night, but this allows you to leave the car after check out and wander around the bay or city as it's an overnight charge. Again that saves hassle as you don't have to leave and re-park elsewhere. Good location for bay and city. The room was good as you would expect from this chain. Buffet Breakfast a bit mixed as had to find someone to get more plates and it wasn't particularly busy, then had to ask for more orange juice, then some bread for toast. If you don't eat meat you can ask for veggie sausages to be cooked, but we didn't know that as the little sign advertising that was hidden behind another. Would visit the hotel again though for the convenient check out and parking and good rooms (it's not our first visit).

I had to change my booking several times due to COVID and COVID restrictions, each time I changed my dates the price increased dramatically, to the point where they wanted to charge £590 for 2 nights. It is a basic hotel with a hostel feel. On a positive note, it was clean and the breakfast was OK but I wouldn’t book there again.

Hi susiemax12017, Thank you for taking the time to write us your thoughts on your most recent stay with us. We want to share the joys of travel with all. I'm sorry that your experience with us leaves something to be desired due to the room rate increase. Our room rate fluctuates, and certain factors may affect the room prices. I have shared your comments with the management team for their reference. I trust they'll use your feedback for improvement and ensure a better stay experience moving forward. I hope you will give us another chance by staying with us again to show you that your unsatisfactory stay was an exception. Regards, Virgil N. Case Manager IHGService

Clean and welcoming. Breakfasts very busy though with limited spaces. Also very limited parking on site. Bar open at evening which is handy Some background music and plants would improve public areas. Good views over the Wharf and some patio seating.

Streets full of water, said a spurious dispatch from Venice - please advise. Now the streets where the Bute West Dock used to be are not full of water, but they have been turned into a suburb called Bute Town and finding your way through these to the Holiday Inn Express is perhaps the major inconvenient of this hotel. I imagine most people will come by car. But if they don't, what then? I would hope these streets are reasonably safe but they can be a bit of a labyrinth the first time. The East Dock meanwhile is still full of water and a home to water-birds, and this faces the hotel to the east. Sadly the opposite side is a busy road so it isn't as idyllic as it might be, but it's ok. Apart from that, the hotel is ideally situated between Cardiff Bay and Cardiff proper. It has the usual HiX decor that we will be used to by now - familiarity breeds a sense of settling back in, and as one who once lived for a month in a (different) HiX it is familiar indeed. Central Cardiff in one direction and Cardiff Bay in the other are within pleasant walking range. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were nice - although I had a slight feeling there weren't enough of them, that October had caught the company slightly on the hop. Food was good although a lack of non-alcoholic beers was a tiny drawback. Food did take a while to come on two different occasions which is where the 'understaffed' feeling comes in. Check in and check out process was fine. Wifi was good. Felt safe and secure.
