The Cardiff Marriott Hotel boasts a welcoming atmosphere and a prime location that guests appreciate for city exploration and transit convenience. While the hotel's cleanliness receives high marks, particularly for spotless bathrooms, some patrons have encountered minor housekeeping lapses. The comfortable beds are often lauded, yet opinions on room layout and noise levels vary, with maintenance also cited as an issue.
Service is generally regarded as friendly and professional, but not without occasional lapses in attentiveness. Despite satisfactory amenities, concerns over parking fees and value for money have been noted by several travelers.

Detailed Reviews
For over a decade, the Marriott has been my favourite hotel in Cardiff, and I have tried at least 4 others, but i'm gradually getting more disappointed with the quality with each stay. On four of my stays, there have been problems with the lifts. Last weekend I narrowly escaped been trapped in one! As soon as I exited, it broke down, and remained 'out of order' for the duration of my stay of 3 nights. Previous to this visit, I stayied three weeks ago, and was put in room 616, this time I was in room 614. The differences between both rooms were unacceptable. 616 had had some work, 614 had not. The t.v system was updated, a shower screen was present and not a half hanging shower curtain as was in 614, and mirrored doors hung on the wardrobe, unlike room 614 with no full length mirror due to the doors been removed! I did point this out to reception, and although the shower curtain was repaired, and the t.v engineer came to our room, he was unable to offer an explaination. Nothing was done regarding the wardrobe mirror doors. On the third day, I did not leave the room until the afternoon as I was unwell. My husband spoke to housekeeping and they said they would service our room in the afternoon. On leaving, I removed the 'privacy plese' card from the door handle so that they could see when the room was empty. We returned at 8-30 that evening, and the room had not been touched. I phoned down to reception and they sent a man up. Oh my goodness, he had to be told to do almost everything-from making the bed, emptying the bins and providing us with towels and toilet rolls. He seemed to think that the room had been serviced once and that we wanted it done again! On our final morning at breakfast, and although we were down an hour and a half before they stopped serving, there were no fried eggs, tomato ketchup and only 1 slice of white bread for toasting. The bread was replenished but only after we'd finished eating. I love the Marriott with it's homely atmosphere and friendly staff and consider it a home from home after years of visits, but after my last stay I am starting to waiver. As my title mentions, it is with a heavy heart I write this review, but feel I have to point out my concerns in the hope that improvements will be made.

We stayed in July for 2 nights in the suite on the 6th floor. Despite high location we could still hear noise from the bars downstairs. I prefer to sleep with windows open but had to closed them and have aircon on instead.
Suite is spacious with hallway and toilet leading to living room with sofa, table and chairs, TV and through the large door to the en suite bedroom. As for what you pay and what we normally find in suites there were no extra touches like nespresso machine or drinks, wine glasses, no upgraded toileteries. Not even a mini bar fridge - It was really bare - I passed this comment to the reception.
Bathroom had seperate bathtub and shower cublicle with excellent water pressure.
Breakfast has been served to the table, no unhigenic buffet, which we appreciated.
The staff is very well trained and really happy to serve.
We had a drink outside in afternoon sun by the entrance. No crowds - unlike gardens opposite.
Housekeeping is daily, no saving on staff and excusing it with covid. I was pleased to return to the made up beds, fresh towels and empty bins.
Parking is £18 a day and very secure, you must have a ticket to even enter.
Overall we felt covid safe and comfortable and are happy to return to this centrally located Marriott.

Very convenient for Cardiff city centre. Big shopping centre and lots of restaurants nearby, plus a short walk away from castle and Bute park.
Parking £18 a day but runs until check out of following day so less expensive than it initially seems.
Staff very friendly and covid safe - sanitising pens, wearing masks, social distancing etc.
Room clean and tidy. Our room had a bath and shower which was nice. No mini fridge.
The worst part of our stay was the lack of free, easy to access wifi. The only way you could access this was to join the Marriott membership and although this was free it felt like a lot of hassle in comparison with other hotels where free wifi (without membership) is standard.

Due to my daughter and her family not being able to go for the two nights that she had booked a few months in advance I decided I would take my grand-daughter up for 1 night. We arrived about 3 on a Sunday. We got our key to room 806 after paying £18 for parking just for the night until 3 the following day which I thought on top of accommodation was way to pricey. Anyhow the guy in reception was great and said oh you've got a good view of the bay from there. We got to room looked out of the window oh dear it was looking at a building site or more like a tip!
After going in to the city for a walk and on our return I decided to have a bath. I had to clean it before I could use it as it had pubic hair in it!! Yuck. On looking round there were cracks round tiles the ceiling had bits of plaster board that had been put there even in the passage on entering the room there were boards just nailed back to ceiling. The price they charge for this hotel is criminal. There were tea stains on wall by TV. Bed was comfy but pillows were not. To be perfectly honest Premier Inn standard of their rooms was better than at this hotel. We couldn't use the wifi without joining the Marriott club so that we could get it for free or pay £10 + for the use and then after asking to do this we couldn't get it to work. I gave up I couldn't be bothered to ask for anymore.
Would not go there again there is no value for the extra money you pay to be there a very ordinary hotel. Convenient for shopping but there are other hotels just as convenient which are far better than this one. No I would not pay the extortionate prices they charge for a very mediocre hotel.

My partner and I recently stayed here for a couple of nights, the location of this hotel is perfect for local shopping, restaurants for any cuisine you can think of, the castle and its even just a 25minute walk to the bay and millennium theatre.
The team were great, we were especially impressed with the breakfast restaurant team. Even in the peak time at the weekend we felt relaxed and comfortable plus the buffet was nicely topped up which I know can be difficult when it gets busy. The food was just what we fancied with waffles made to order and a big selection on the buffet, we rolled out both days not needing to eat again until much later.
We stayed in an executive room which meant we had access to the executive lounge, this meant we could enjoy soft drinks throughout the day and also some tasty canapés in the evening with a glass of wine. It was a great start to our evening after the days exploring.
One note I would say to anyone driving and planning on parking here, check the pre-arrival email for instructions, we did not read this properly and missed their advice on how to get there. Just using the postcode in google maps lead us up a Taxi & Bus zone taking us to the back of the building so we are expecting a fine to come through. This is not to blame the hotel, as we missed this in their pre-arrival email. I just wouldn’t want anyone else to make the same mistake.
Overall I would recommend this hotel for its location and team!

This visit was taken on the first weekend that some restrictions were lifted in Wales and should be taken in that context.
We stayed at this hotel which was close to the city centre which was very handy. It overlooked one of the main eating and drinking areas which did create a fair amount of noise.
My main issue with the hotel was that we were charged an extra £50 per night for 'incidentals' . This was never stated on the booking and paying out and extra £100 was unexpected !
The unused money would be returned but only be done in 5-7 working days.
There was little in the way of incidentals - car park was £18 per day & no mini fridge.
Breakfast could be purchased for collection - £8.50 for a basic continental breakfast. Meals were delivered for room service at no extra cost but it was a very reduced menu. Meals had to be eaten in your room but our room only had a very small table and one chair. For a room booked for two people I found this to be very strange.
WiFi cost £3 a day.
The bathroom was clean although the shower was cold despite running the water for a longtime.
We cut our stay short due to these issues and only stayed one night. We were allowed to cancel with no charge.
In my opinion this was a lot of money paid out for vey little. The room was very small and basic. Other similar hotels in the area are much better value for money.

Dear tonydean325, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay with us. We do have a standard policy of charging an additional £50 per night for any incidentals, as you mentioned this would cover parking, breakfast and room service charges which would be able to be charged to your room. We do advise on check out that this could take 3-5 days to show in your account however this is usually much quicker. Our WiFi is complementary to our Marriott BonVoy Members, this is free to join at any point throughout your stay. I am sorry to read you had an issue with your shower, it is crucial for us to be notified about any issues to allow us the opportunity to resolve these for you at the time. My sincere apologies that you were not fully satisfied with your stay. I do hope that you enjoyed your time in Cardiff and we will have the opportunity in the future to welcome you back and improve your experience. Warmest Regards, Caroline Nelson

This hotel has a good central location - easily walkable to the castle and arcades. You can even walk straight down to the Bay in about 30mins but the walk itself is not that attractive.
There's an adjoining car park at £18 per day (be careful that you drive straight into the car park as its entrance is off a restricted access road and you will get fined if you drive past the hotel car park entrance) .
We were allocated a smallish executive room which was showing its age and was a bit grubby in some places (e.g. the extractor fan in the toilet looked like it had never been cleaned - see picture ).
There is a smallish on-site gym and the executive lounge served a few small canapés and drinks at 5.30pm onwards (canapés included samosas and mini lamb kofte sticks). They only serve beer and wine…no spirits.
Breakfast was a fairly basic buffet which you can supplement with poached eggs, pancakes, etc from the kitchen.
The reception staff and lounge staff were great. However, all things considered, we would probably seek out alternative accommodation if we were visiting Cardiff again.

My girlfriend and I spent here one night as a weekend getaway celebrating our anniversary.
We specify it at the moment of the booking, but it looked like this note passed totally unnoticed. Not a mention, nor a card, nor an amenity in the room nothing. That's fine, not a big issue, but it tells a lot about attention to details and care towards the guests.
Another fail was the fact that they assigned us a twin room, even if we specified in the booking "kingsize bed".. Not a big issue either, it was only one night, but it was already the second disappointment and another lack of interest/attention to details.
Third disappointment, Gym was out of use for refurbishing. Not even a mention in the website.
Minibar in the room was totally empty. No one mentioned it upon check in, nor an alternative service was offered. We only found out in the middle of the night while, waking up being thirsty, we found out not even a bottle of water was availble. I mean, even 3 stars hotels leave one or two bottles of water in the room.
Breakfast was like a cheap hostel quality. Undrinkable coffee, very few items in the menu. English breakfast looked like reheaten, gummy bacon, floppy sausages.. And not a single member of the staff gave a single hint of a smile to any guest. It seemed like we were in a factory full of robots.
Another downside, we have never seen the shadow of a Concierge, although apparently according to the Reception, he was on duty.
On a positive note, Front Desk staff was amazing and they looked genuinely keen to help. Sian was the person we mainly dealt with. Also, prime location, very central and close to the main station.
Front Desk staff and location made a poor stay become certainly more positive.

We always stay at the Marriott in Cardiff, having stayed at various others in the city too. The newly refurbished hotel is very comfortable, and all staff are ways courteous and accommodating. I would agree with a point made by a previous reviewer, that the rooms do lack storage space i.e. chest of drawers. There is ample hanging space in an open wardrobe however, and everything you would need in the rooms such as tea/coffee facilities, fridge, iron and ironing board, and complimentary toiletries. We also use their private on site parking. Despite being £18 for 24 hours, it does give guests the convenience of being able to take luggage to/from the car with easy access from the hotel. Unlike another reviewer has mentioned, despite leaving the hotel via the same and only exit many times over the years, we’ve not been fined by Cardiff City Council. (To explain: The exit point from the hotel car park is on CCTV , so a fine by the council can be contested as there is clear evidence of the need to turn onto a bus lane while exiting the hotel’s car park).
The location of the hotel is ideal. It’s central to the train station, it’s in the city centre for shopping, theatre or events at the arena. But, it’s tucked away slightly from the main humdrum, so noise isn’t a problem, and rooms are very quiet. If you are a light sleeper and concerned about noise, the hotel usually honour requests for a “quiet room” away from the lift areas. We always keep ear plugs handy for any hotel stays as the hotel has no control over guests that have no thought for others when slamming doors and loud voices in corridors at night. It’s the same whatever part of the world you’re in!?
I look forward to my next stay in a few months time.

My family and I dined at the Marriott on Christmas Day and unfortunately we were left very dissatisfied and disappointed.
We had previously dined at the Marriott for Sunday lunch on numerous occasions and we had previously been very happy with the food and the service.
Unfortunately on Christmas Day this wasn’t the case. As a party of 10 paying over £1000 to dine we expected dinner to be of a high standard. This was not the case. The selection on offer wasn’t what was advertised and the food looked as if it had been out under the light for a while.
My children refused to eat and the majority of the adults didn’t eat their meals either.
We did voice our opinions to the waiter that served us but we weren’t heard. In fairness to the staff on the floor it wasn’t their fault so we didn’t make much of a fuss.
I wrote to the Marriott directly after our experience and the response I got was unprofessional and to be quite honest insulting.
I was offered a partial 10% refund which still hasn’t come to fruition.
Overall service was unsatisfactory. I am writing this review in the hope that other families aren’t as disappointed in the future and so that hopefully the issues are resolved.

The overnight rate for the municipal car park attached to the hotel is £18.
Agree - the market shouldn’t affect this
We put a review on regarding access to (and remote parking - and in the rain) the Cardiff Marriott. Also the fact that there are no signs, and we were not told about, the validation process to exit the car park. We drove round and round, ignoring the ‘No Vehicles’ sign, until we finally spotted the little ‘except for hotel access’ letters. Yes, somewhere in the chaos of those streets I got a fine for driving in a bus lane. My friend, who has lived in Cardiff over 30 years, did a reconnoiter trip days before, so that he knew how to pick us up. Finding the hotel is an absolute nightmare.
