Excellent location in the very city centre, comfortable, clean rooms with good buffet breakfast Tired exterior but very well kept interior, (such as the historical aspects of the Captain Scott Rooms and bar area). Lastly, staff 10/10 (in reception, at breakfast and servicing rooms)

Hotel's Favourite
Lovely hotel, everything it says it is. All the convenience and trappings of the usual chain hotels/rooms but done that little bit nicer, and for a competitive price. Breakfast was excellent, the room lovely and staff very friendly and helpful. Would def stay there any time visiting Cardiff. Discounted parking close by was a bonus as we needed the car this time but also close to the train station.

The Royal Hotel in Cardiff provided a delightful stay! The elegant decor created a memorable experience. The spacious rooms were lovely (I already visited twice), bed absolutely comfortable! The central location was perfect for me. For the next time I will definitely chose The Royal Hotel again. The breakfast provided was a tasty start to the day, lot of choices. Highly recommended for a stay in Cardiff!

Stayed one night at the hotel for a Michael Ball concert , can’t fault it . Even though the entrance on Westgate street is not easy to find and looks a little scruffy, what you find when you walk through the door is a completely different story. Really fab and friendly staff, we were allowed to book in half hour early as the room was ready. Rooms clean well equipped and beds comfortable, , with tea and coffee facilities. So close to everything , 5 mins from station, 10 mins from the motorpoint arena, in the heart of the city, but when inside the rooms you can’t hear a thing, really peaceful. Breakfast excellent, will definitely recommend to friends.

We used the Royal for a business meeting in February and overnight accommodation as we have been doing for some years. The personal service and friendliness of the staff is exceptional. The breakfast is a real treat too. I have also used this Hotel to stay for social events and the location is perfect. It is so good to have found a Hotel that really looks after you and I will certainly be back.

Didn't have the best experience here. The first room wasn't clean; bathroom hadn't even been cleaned from the look of it. Second room was adjusted for wheelchair users which meant the sink was extremely low for my 6'6" height, not to mention it was over the Slug & Lettuce which was music playing into the wee hours. There is little air circulation from window openings due to the supposed sound-proofing/additional glazing layer to the original listed windows. The cleaner on the 2nd day found a dirty sock in the room and placed it on the side, which would have been fine if it had belonged to me! The breakfast also left a lot to be desired - no fresh fruit (some old black bananas were on offer) and you could only have your eggs fried. some of these in isolation would have been manageable for my experience, but when all combined into a 2-night stay - I wasn't impressed and will not be staying here again whilst on business. Might be more suited to a one night stay if you are going to the stadium etc.

Dear theg557 Thank you for your valuable feedback and comments following your 2 day stay with us this week. I was truly sorry to hear about the issues you encountered during your visit regarding the shortfalls of cleanliness in the bathroom. We dropped our guard on this occasion. You will see from other reviews that this is not the standard of cleanliness that we accept. Your comments have been shared with the housekeeping team and a change of procedures has already been implemented to ensure that this is, and will remain, an isolated incident. Regarding the issues you faced during breakfast, I was surprised to read that there was no fresh fruit available. Whilst I accept that the bananas may have been too ripe for your liking, I do know that there’s always a platter with freshly cut melon, oranges and grapes available, next to the bowl of apples and the bowl with mandarin segments. I am sorry that you felt you couldn’t ask a member of the breakfast team to have different cooked eggs on both mornings; we will always gladly and readily provide guests with either scrambled or poached eggs. We did so for other guests during breakfast during those two mornings. Again, your comments have been passed on to our breakfast team to raise awareness and further improve our service standards. All the best

Myself and adult son stayed in the Royal for a Rugby weekend. The hotel was great. Its well positioned for anything and everything in Cardiff. Our room was pretty big, the beds comfy and the room had all the extras you might want like a safe, kettle with tea, coffee and hotchocolate. There was also a hair dryer and iron. The hotel its self was quiet despite it being a really busy weekend. Breakfasts were also very good with a wide selection which would cover anybodies needs. Staff were friendly and helpful. We drove there and the road to it were easy. Parking was also no problem and the hotel offers a massive discount if you use the NCP car park which is near-by I would stay again and would also recommend it.
