I booked a stay for my partners 40th birthday which I booked via groupon. I emailed reception to check whether I would be able to upgrade my room and was told that it wouldn't be an issue. The deal I purchased included a bottle of prosecco, again I e-mailed reception to see if it was possible to change the prosecco for a couple of bottles of lager instead. Again I was told that it wouldn't be an issue and that they would put some chocolates and a card in our room for my partner, which I thought was a lovely gesture. The day before arrival I received an email prompting check in. When I went to check in I noticed that the room was still a standard room. I emailed reception to verify this but no response! On arrival I questioned this but the upgrade hadn't been actioned. It wasn't an issue as there were rooms available at the upgraded price. When I got to the room we were directly above cardiff central track, which again I wasn't expecting after upgrading. I went to the bar to claim my bottles of lager but was told that wasn't possible as that was not the package I had booked. I showed my e-mail confirming and was still told no and it was only the prosecco I was entitled to. Later the bar man did arrive to the room with lager however 'traded' for the prosecco. The chocolates or card never arrived. On checkout I did complain and they refunded the upgrade. By this point I was devastated that I had booked this hotel. I wanted a nice evening away withy partner for his special birthday which I feel was totally ruined by such poor customer service.

Myself and my two friends moved into the Clayton due to our house being unliveable in May, and stayed there until October! The duration of our stay says just how incredible all the staff are! We were welcomed with open arms by Vio who helped us move a large amount of stuff into our rooms. We arrived when there were strict covid restrictions so we began by having room service daily, this is when I first met George who always delivered my food with a smile and friendly chat!! We were delighted when restrictions eased because it meant we could eat in the restaurant. After eating in the restaurant twice a day, daily we began building great relationships with the staff, in particular the bar and restaurant staff. It really felt like home from home. A huge shout-out to Phil and Cione the Chefs for cooking for us daily and accommodating us, especially when they went above and beyond to offer us something off the menu to switch things up for us! We really miss your cooking!!! A huge shout out to all the restaurant staff who always waited on us hand and foot and made our long stay so much more bearable. We really appreciate everything you done for us, especially Callum, George, Toby, Ella, Jamie, Izzy, Roma, Elanor and Nina. Dean, we wish we met you sooner! It also goes without saying that the reception staff, managers and housekeeping were accommodating and resolved any issues quickly. A huge shout out to those I built close relationships with during my stay: Fiona for always being so lovely, Sian who again we wish we met sooner! and Ryan who has now left. Paddy, we will also miss seeing you in the morning with your chirpy greetings! Clayton, you were a wonderful home from home and we can't wait to visit soon!! Thank you for everything you have done for us!

Stayed here the early part of October, first visit to Cardiff since 2019; found the hotel to be in an excellent location for the towns attractions, however, I expected it to be of a higher standard (like that of the Hilton) considering the cost, it was clean and the cleaning staff were polite,

Great location however for a four star hotel I expected a bit more. There was no complimentary water in the room, no toiletries i.e. body wash/shampoo/handwash. The lampshades were hanging off. This was definitely not four stars like other four star hotels, just basic. I had to ask twice for more toilet paper.
