I’ve stayed in this hotel last night and had an amazing stay! The staff is very polite and they guide you through the whole process of restrictions. The room had been sanitised and the door was sealed with appropriate signs. The room was very big and comfy and me and my partner booked the lockdown offer that included dinner and breakfast bags served in the room. They gave us a bottle of prosecco which was divine and we enjoyed the city view sipping it and eating delicious food.
The treat is very cheap considering the posh building! It costs £95 only and includes stay, 2 course meal (big portions- 2 mains if there are 2 people), a bottle of prosecco and a breakfast bag (2bags if there are 2 people) served at the time you prefer.
We will return for sure.

My wife and I stayed for one night at the Clayton after our local lockdown. As it is one of my favourite hotels in Cardiff we knew we would be in safe hands. Full marks to all the staff compiling with regulations whilst we were there, Our room 906 was cleaned to the highest standards and throughout the hotel there were stringent hygiene practices observed at all times with hand sanitising at all hotspots. We felt completely comfortable and safe at all times. We were utilising a Travel Zoo promotion which included an Executive room and breakfast. I can honestly say we were treated the same as if we had paid full price. My first point of contact was Guest Relations Manager Amelia Fields who promptly and courteously answered my e-mails, a credit to the hotel and company.
This is one of the Clayton strengths ,the ability to hand pick good, reliable and friendly staff. Chris on reception was amicable and pleasant and was also on hand helping out during breakfast. Jason Court the gregarious assistant manager was serving behind the bar in the evening and ensuring high contact area were being regularly cleaned and disinfected .Even though he was busy still took time out to have a chat and was genuinely interested in how we were in these unprecedented times.
To be honest I was a little apprehensive for breakfast as we had stayed at a Village Hotel where it was a disaster with standards falling. We were soon put at ease by Chris as we had an allocated time of 9am it went very smoothly. Harvey our helpful server was first class explaining the procedure .As I like ham and cheese, “no problem sir, freshly cut ham”. As I did not want scrambled egg, “no problem, sir a fresh fried egg brought out to my table”. Once again Chris was on reception and bade us farewell until next time. Well done to all concerned working together as a team with one goal for the customer to have the best time possible in these dark times.. As I headlined a first class service, from a first class team.

Booked a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast stay for the bargain price of £91.24 on Saturday 15th August. It was my partner's birthday so prior to arrival I requested a high floor with city views. When we arrived the receptionist was very welcoming and friendly and gave my partner a Birthday card and a miniature Vodka which was a lovely touch. I believe we were upgraded to a superior room as we had a coffee machine and gowns and slippers our room was on the 10th floor with views towards Cardiff Bay. It was nice and clean and was comfortable. The 3 course meal in the evening was lovely and tasty and the serving staff were again really friendly and professional. The breakfast was really tasty and the staff fantastic again.

The only two negatives were the hotel bar wasn't well stocked a lot of the pumps were not in use and the bottles of larger etc was almost empty. On two occasions the hand sanitizer gels were empty in the lift and main lobby area. These were only minor issues and during these extraordinary times it is understandable that issues may happen.

I would 100% go back as its a lovely hotel with great staff in a fantastic location, I am looking forward to revisiting.

Booked a single night for a theatre visit in Cardiff and picked the Clayton for location and the great deal we were offered online. Got an "executive room " with breakfast for a brilliant price. We knew it was a few minutes walk from Cardiff central station, so it was ideal . We were really early arriving at the hotel, primarily just to drop our luggage off but the lovely lady on reception said our room was available, outstanding, and made it much easier for us.The room was on the the 9th floor, loads of light through the huge windows, plenty of space, big tv,big bed, tea and coffee facilities and plenty of storage. There was a great view of the Cardiff city streets too. What a lovely room we'd been given. To be picky, the bathroom didn't have the same impact as the room . I'm not sure the shower over the bath and very dim lighting belonged in an "executive room ", but to be fair, it was spotlessly clean and everything was fine, it didn't take the shine off how pleased we were . The early check in was a great bonus and after a freshen up we set off for our theatre show and evening out in the capital city . With very fuzzy head's we set off for breakfast in the morning on the 1st floor. It was excellent, the staff were really helpful and polite. There was a huge selection and everything was fresh and delicious. Breakfast finishes slightly later on a weekend, which is a great idea. After breakfast, we packed up and checked out. The helpfulness of the staff carried on even after checking out as they held our luggage, free of charge whilst we hit the shops. Outstanding service indeed and we can't thank the staff enough for a great overnight stay.

We recently returned from a two night stay in Cardiff at the Clayton and there are some positives and negatives about this hotel.

Positives
All the staff at the hotel where welcoming and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Any request was done immediately and with a smile, a big plus.
We stayed on a summer package which include breakfast and 3 course dinner for both nights, real bargain and the food was lovely however, the menu was a little repetitive and said completely different to the menu on the website and on the guest services page.
The location for this hotel was spot on and despite the closeness to the station it was quiet in the room.
The hotel has plenty of hand sanitiser dotted around which is great.

Negatives
If you travel by car parking is costly as the hotel doesn't have a car park. We parked at the station which costs £12.50 a day.
We stayed in an Executive room which I thought would have have been a little nicer than it was. The room had a double and single bed which took up most of the space. The room had all the amenities we needed and staff brought us extra shower gel on request as there is no housekeeping due to the current situation. I did think that the room could have been a little cleaner given the Covid-19 situation but it wasn't bad enough for me to be too concerned with just worth noting. The room also had no guest information and the guest service website was not that helpful. I think the lack of guest information book is probably to declutter for hygiene but it would have come in handy when trying to work the air con. We had to request a fan because the windows don't open, but the staff was happy to provide this.
We had a situation with the lift in the evening when people piled into it forcing me and my husband to get out and take the stairs. Not only would the lift be over the maximum weight limit but there are signs in reception advising that only people from the same household may get into the lift a one time due to Coronavirus. The lifts are small and it might be worth the hotel putting signs on each floor and marking put the lift floor with guidance.

Overall, the negatives where very minor and the hotel is in a great location with lovely attentive staff and food.

Dear Imd19, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review with us, I can confirm there is guest information in all bedrooms, to receive this you must scan the QR code that is in the room as due to COVID19 we have removed all literature for safety. I am sorry to read that other people were trying to get in the lift with you, I will speak to our team about this and ensure this is monitored more effectively. I am glad that you enjoyed our rooms, staff, bedrooms and dinner. I hope we can welcome you back again soon. Kind regards, Amelia Guest Relations Manager

So first you should know that this is our fourth stay at the Clayton hotel Cardiff.
All other stays went without mishap ,we assumed this one would be the same .
Firstly be advised that whilst the staff are happy enough to serve you at the bar ,deal with you at reception, bring dinner to your table ,they will not run a hover round your empty room ,or pop some clean towels in ,because apparently that’s too dangerous.
Instead you are expected to go to reception to pick up any items you need ,and don’t expect your request to be met graciously.
Next do scrutinise your bill carefully, ours was £185.00 over charged when we queried this ,they seemed unsurprised ,took the amount off and after we left put £80.00 back on again .
I have no idea what’s happened to the management of this hotel ,but it sits on the cusp of going straight down the steep slope to one night rentals .The front desk staff are unskilled and less than friendly , one particularly grim faced young lady informed me that I should have been told of the lack of room service at check in ,I hadn’t the heart to tell her that she had checked me in .
In short if your on a hen /stag night and require a place to flop this will do ,but for any stay over a night it’s a disaster .
They do a very fine breakfast .
Please don’t bother to reply to this we won’t be staying again .

I stayed at this hotel on the above date and was very impressed. It was my first visit to this hotel but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the rooms and all the staff I dealt with were very helpful, particularly Izzy who helped at breakfast on the Sun morning, she helped us with a problem in a very efficiant manner. The hotel was half the price of the hotel that I normally stay in and in future I will be choosing The Clayton over them.

Pre Booked New Year stay for 3 nights and requested room (806) as we have stayed in this room a few times. Arrived on 29th Dec used Railway Station Carpark £12.50 daily we paid £37.50 for 3 days the machines only take coins and you have to pay Daily but you can pay for longer stays at railway station ticket office. The Hotel is only 200m away. We were greeted with a warm welcome at check in and were allocated our room. Again the room was clean and tidy with a view down St Marys St and the other window faces the New building of a premier inn. The room was warm however my wife feels the cold and we were given a fan heater aswell. The room has iron, hairdryer, bath robes, slippers, safe, fridge, tea/coffee, expresso machine and Sky Tv.
We have had a lovely relaxing stay again this new year and look forward to our next weekend break.
Regards
Mr and Mrs C

booked in for just one night . i rang the night before to see if i could have a bottle of bubbly added to the room and spoke to the lovely Amena. (hope i spelt your name right) explained it was my hubbys birthday. She chatted for ages - not the usual rushing you off the phone!. she gave me great advice and of course arranged the bottle of bubbly in the room for me. I explained that we had initially booked with Flybe and that our flight got cancelled the day before and we were now going to have to travel to birmingam and get train up as we were collecting a car and it had to be that weekend. She asked about my arrival which was 3 hours before their normal check in and she gave me free early check in. how lovely. to top it all there was the loveliest hand written birthday card to my hubbie. small touches will not only make you review a hotel but it will ensure you return. the breakfast is unreal - i am not a lover of frys and the selection of alternatives was amazing. all in all i would highly recommend and i hope they appreciate the wonderful amena because i know i did.

Visited last week for my husbands birthday.
Had a groupon voucher which made it very reasonable indeed. There was a nice choice of mains & a selection of some lovely cakes for dessert. My husbands burger was delicious as were the chips that came with it. I chose eggs royal- lovely toasted bread topped with plenty of smoked salmon, hollandaise sauce & poached eggs. Beautiful. The slices of cake & tart for dessert were lovely & came on a sharing platter. The bubbles were kept lovely & cold & were served every time we emptied our glasses. Lovely aspect of city centre from table at the window of the 1st floor restaurant- nice 90 minutes people watching. Would definitely recommend- our waiter was Dan & nothing was too much trouble, the chef wasTom & his food was delicious.

Hi, that's correct the hotel doesn't have underground parking. We parked at the nearby Pellett Street NCP multi story car park for Ed Sheeran concert. ncp/cardiff-pellett-street It's opposite the principality stadium and approx 10 mins walk to hotel. Safe parking, I think we paid 12.50 for 24 hrs. Ask the hotel to apply discount before leaving!
