My partner and I visited Clayton Hotel Cardiff for her birthday. We had an excellent stay, the hotel is clean, modern and spacious with a nice ambience in the lobby area. Lito on reception was super, she ensured our check in was smooth and efficient as well as providing a complimentary upgrade for my partner’s birthday! In the restaurant Elena looked after us utmost hospitality, efficiency and provided us a friendly service. Afternoon tea was a hit with superb views of the city.

My friends and I attended an afternoon tea on Saturday 25th March at the Clayton Hotel Cardiff. The welcome was friendly and there were three staff covering four tables. A glass of Prosecco was served on arrival and afternoon was delivered to the table all good so far. Then this went down hill, the afternoon tea sandwich selection was very poor and even though there was supposed to be endless tea/coffee we only had two rounds of tea and had to ask for more. At no point did the staff ask if we required more hot drinks nor did they as if everything was ok with our afternoon tea. Very disappointing experience.

Great location right by train station, yet you would never know as you could not hear the trains. Very clean communal areas, staff helpful and friendly. Rooms clean and tidy, comfortable beds. Would definitely recommend very central for shopping and arenas.

Perfect hotel to see Cardiff! All the staff were extremely helpful, and friendly especially Josh. The bar was a pleasant place to sit and have a drink or cup of tea. It was ideal for the station and all of Cardiff’s bars, restaurants and shopping. But it really was the staff that made it!

I booked this stay through the groupon app, I've stayed at this hotel before during covid and found it to be quite nice. This time however I have to admit I was disappointed. I had booked for an executive room with a 2 course dinner with 2 glasses of wine, breakfast and late checkout. The room was honestly nothing to write home about, rather old-fashioned and in need of updating, saying that it was very clean and tidy. I had paid £169 for this one night stay and tbh thought that was a good deal. We went to the restaurant in the hotel and had a lovely seat by the window, cwe ordered a bottle of wine between us and off the menu ordered steak which we could see we neded to pay an extra £5 each for, apart from that we had one serving of Peppercorn sauce. We had ordered a starter so did not have dessert as only 2 courses were included in the deal. When we were ready to leave we were presented with a bill for £50 , at the time we did not question it having had a few drinks lol, the next day once we got home I have to admit we thought we had been fleeced well and truly. The staff at this hotel were really lovely but we will not be staying there again due to the one night costing us a lot of money even after going through groupon.

Booked via booking.com. booked for 2 adults and 1 child. Did an online chat 2 days before to confirm the booking was correct. Arrived and told it was only booked for2 adults. Arsey receptionist said she'd be charging for the child (the child who won't be using any extra bed or space as the room already has a double and a single bed). I get business but I can't deal with pettiness. Charged an extra £20 for my daughter to stay in the room. Managed to get 'the child' a free breakfast as kids eat free. Again Receptionist demanded the child's age, despite seeing that she clearly wasn't over 8years old (children under 12 eat free). They kept our luggage for us but jo room available at 1.30pm (3pm check in but usually rooms are available). Overall a really disappointing introduction to the Clayton. Juat based on this experience alone I wouldn't return. When we returned at 3.30pm we were met with different staff. We were n initially served and then she disappeared for 10mins while we just stood there waiting............ Room 409- could not swing a cat. Tiny and pokey would be an understatement. Bathroom- tiny and one bath towel- not sure how the 3 of us are going to shower and wash. One chair  and nothing else. 'Double' bed wasn't a double, more a large single. Space between bed is fine if you're a size 6. Tiles falling off wall in bathroom, biscuot wrappers on the floor- clearly cleaning isnt a strong point, stains on lampshade. Kettle was so grubby it was stuck to the tray!!!! Plug socket by the bed was wobbly and dangerous.  Lumpy pillows, building work outside, the beds are on wheels so move around,  dust on carpets, lights, surfaces ....the list is endless. Overall- run down, grubby and expensive. 4* this is definitely not! WiFi was free and worked OK. Breakfast- firstly the staff here were lovely. Really accommodating and polite. Food was ok, buffet had been left out a while; had to order eggs (no scrambled available) and took ages to make. Best part of our stay....seeing the brand new Premier Inn being built opposite,  can't wait to stay there next time.

Great location, right on the main street. We were staying here for a 6 nations, we'd stayed before and you cannot beat the location. Staff are very friendly, we ate dinner here after the game and it was really good. The only thing to note is the bed is tiny! I was in a double room (solo) thank god, the bed is very small for a double, so if traveling as a couple I'd look to see if there is a bigger bed option (king/queen).
