Nestled in the heart of Cardiff, the Holiday Inn Cardiff City garners praise for its prime location near shops and the Principality Stadium. While opinions on value are split, with event-time prices causing some concern, the hotel's atmosphere is consistently described as warm and inviting, complete with festive touches. Guests commend the cleanliness and the service provided by the attentive staff, though there are suggestions to refresh the somewhat dated and cramped rooms. The on-site amenities, while comfortable, are also noted to benefit from an update.

Very comfortable hotel. Nice beds, large rooms and great breakfast.
Very good position opposite Bute Park, the river with trips to the bay and near to castle and of course the fantastic shops!
What with so many shops, cafes and restaurants you wont know what to do first!

Very friendly and helpful staffs, which is the main reason for my rating (would have given a rating of 3 otherwise). Location is great for exploring the city centre but difficult to navigate to the hotel if you're using GPS and came from the east since Castle street is now closed (I spent about 15 minutes driving around the city to get to the hotel). There's also hand sanitizer in almost every corner of the public area (even within the lifts) which is commendable.

However, the hotel is in need of refurbishment as the room is too dated for current standards (it seems like the last renovation was at least 20 years ago). Maintenance / upkeep could be improved (most of this is probably due to how old the room is) - room windows could do with regular cleaning to remove the dust stuck outside the windows, one light in my room didn't work, towel had some dark stain, black mould around bath filler tap, wardrobe door dragging on carpet etc.

Good effort to provide breakfast but options and quality could be improved as another hotel chain (of similar price) provided better breakfast when I stayed with them last month. The bacon panini didn't taste good. Pastry and cereal were available when requested but I would appreciate being offered these options by default as I wasn't aware they're available until the last day of my stay.

Overall a good stay with some rooms for improvement

Average visit.
Food menu (photo attached) for room service was painfully average food for an extortionate price.
Breakfast was included and the visit was cheap (£55 per night for 1 person)
Bathroom was clean but the room was seriously dated and therefore not super clean.

My husband and I stayed on a Friday evening on a room only basis, the location of this hotel is perfect for visiting many attractions in Cardiff. We asked for a room at the rear of the building (512) when we checked in, had no problems sleeping. The staff on check in and out were very friendly and happy to chat.

The car park is located at the rear of the building, we arrived at 1pm on the Friday and we could leave it there until 1pm on the Saturday. That did give us a relaxing morning walking through Cardiff. Will stay again if the price is right!

Another wonderful stay at this super hotel.Perfect service especially during this difficult covid 19 period. It must be the best hotel for pandemic lockdown stays. All the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They had a smile on their faces the whole time and made sure we were happy.
Hand sanitisers at numerous places throughout the hotel, health and safety of the guests was paramount.
The hotel location is perfect for the city center and all the attractions
Our room was nice, spotlessly clean, spaceous and very comfortable.
The room service dinning arrangements was brilliant, cooked hot food of the finest quality.
Looking forward very much to our next visit.

Another fabulous stay at this wonderful hotel.
The rooms were, as usual, spotlessly clean and spacious, complete towel change and rooms cleaned daily.
The location is ideal for sightseeing and shopping therapy.
The breakfast is the best in th UK, all tastes and dietary requirements are catered for.
All the staff, without exception, are courteous, pleasant, efficient and very very helpful. Our disabled daughter accompanied us on this visit, the facilities offered in terms of room facilities and mobility access made the stay very very pleasant and stress free.
Free wifi is available throughout the hotel.
Thank you Holiday Inn for another wonderful stay, looking forward to our next visit.

Stayed for two nights and was extremely disappointed in this hotel. As a Spire Elite Ambassador for IHG which was not even acknowledged as it should be upon arrival, I found the hotel very basic and in some areas tired and lacking general maintenance. Over the two days our key cards for our room failed four times necessitating trips back down to reception. As a couple that travel a lot for both business and leisure we are well aware of keeping key cards away from magnetic items so this was not the case for their failure. We had no housekeeping carried out during our stay which I understand is difficult during COVID times but at least warn your guests upon arrival that this is the case, most of us do understand and are willing to accept this. We have stopped at many hotels during this period through necessity and this has always been explained and accepted by us. I specifically asked on our booking form to be away from the lifts but we were quite close and I would have asked to be changed to another room but as it was only two nights I did put up with the noise. I do not like giving poor reviews especially as I know how hard the staff work but I will probably not be returning to this hotel which is a shame because the location is great. Not sure I would recommend either to family and friends!

Trip advisor reviews never cease to amaze me in the range of often hugely inaccurate views.
This hotel (considering its prices) is in an awful state of repair and decoration.Any guest, the owners and/or management cannot possibly deny. The furniture in the rooms and public areas are the nastiest cheapest one could imagine.Paper is peeling off walls the facilities in rooms are extremely old and poor.
It really is a dump. The saving grace is the friendliness of the staff and the actual great town centre location.
Don’t start me on the standard of breakfast !!!!

Stayed here with 4 other biker friends overnight on 17/18th June 2021. Manager was very helpful in facilitating a more secure location for our bikes and for dealing with a cancellation of one of the rooms.

Overall rooms and facilities were good and service was of a high standard, with one member of staff in particular going above and beyond the normal service expected.

I would definitely stay here again.

I am a clinic Manager and have been booking rooms in this Hotel during lockdown for visiting clinicians and surgeons. we have been using this Hotel for the past twelve months.
Infection control is paramount to us and the feedback I am continually receiving from my team is that they feel "covid safe" at the Holiday Inn Castle street.
Making a reservation is simple and every staff member that has answered my calls and requests for rooms has been helpful and friendly.
When guests arrive they are dealt with promptly and in a very polite and professional way. Covid regulations are strictly adhered to. There is on site parking too.
The rooms, although somewhat tired, are always spotlessly clean.
Breakfast is a well organised affair and food is hot and plentiful with a good vegetarian option.
My clinicians request to stay at this Hotel rather than the other (more expensive) hotels which we used to use because the staff are so welcoming and make their stay easy. Thank you to the brilliant Team at Holiday Inn Cardiff for making us keyworkers feel safe and looked after as we work during the pandemic.

We parked before check-in time without problem as we mentioned the need to park when we made our booking. Then we went to reception on arrival (before check-in time) and told them we had parked. They then recorded our vehicle registration number. At the time the parking fee would have been £13, but by joining their (free loyalty program) by proving an email address they parking was free).
