Normally fans of Holiday Inn both here and in Europe. Directions and car park fine, welcome by reception was fantastic, organized and clear. The reception and bar area were clean and welcoming, but went downhill from there. One of the smallest rooms I've stayed in and the bathroom was tiny - not even room for a loo brush. Thin greyish white towels. Minimal sugars with tea/coffee making kit. Very poor lighting in room with only two bedside lights, standard light up corner next to bed and small reading lamp on desk/dresser. Breakfast offering was quite good and welcome and farewell by staff was good too. One coffee machine broken only delivering hot chocolate and despite several people complaining nothing done. F&B Manager should have been all over that on a busy Sunday morning. Although a good location its better value to stay out of town and spend the money you save on a taxi.…
Overnight stay - rooms require updating! No power points near the bedside cabinets;generally lack of power points in the room; bathroom shower needed to be looked at by staff to get it working - very helpful ladies at the front desk helped resolve this. Bathroom is very small and cramped. Tried calling from the room not connecting. Had to go down to reception to get help. Breakfast was extremely disappointing. Both on service and food - food was not being replenished when asked and staff were not too bothered to please. Spoke to F&B manager and raised my concerns. He was apologetic however not a great start to the day and heading off for an important meeting. Hotel is in good central location however very basic for an IHG hotel in need of updating. Lots of scuff and chips around the room and corridors.…
Overall, the one night stay was fine and I would stay again so long as the rate was reasonable. There were definitely positives but also definite room for improvement. The good: - Polite staff - Good room size and large bed - Great location for the centre of Cardiff - Room heating system worked well and heated it well on a very cold day and night - It was all very clean in all areas The improvements needed: - A real bugbear- no plug sockets by the bed. Like many, I use my phone as an alarm and it’s annoying to be unable to have it to hand for the morning while charging overnight. The nearest socket to the head end of the bed is around 10 feet away. However there was one inside the wardrobe, which was a little odd. - Attention to detail and maintenance. The bulb in one of the bedside lights was out, the desktop lamp didn’t work, and the floor standing lamp only turned on with the main lights, which seems to defeat the purpose. There were a few scuffs and chips on the walls. One of the bedside tables seemed to have a shelf that had broken off and was just left at its side. - The room safe was on a high shelf in the wardrobe which isn’t easily reachable. - It feels like a half-finished refurbishment. The reception area and room were lovely, however the corridors were a bit of a time warp and the bathroom was pretty cramped compared to the rest of the room.…
We stayed for one night after Christmas. Location is excellent, we parked in the car park, checked in and paid - including logging our vehicle electronically and on the hotel paperwork. The room was decent size, nice view overlooking the park. The bathroom was extremely small and cramped. We are both tall and struggled moving around! A week after our stay we had a parking fine through the post...... which now we have to contest. Could really do without the stress of having to fight the parking company.
Very good located just five minutes from the centre .Good customer service at the reception and in the bar. Besides regural rooms, nothing special ,but very clean and comfortable bed.. Avaiible parking Delicious, various breakfast menu.
Nice room that was pretty spacious. The bathroom had a slightly odd setup with the toilet directly next to the bath, but I didn't mind. Very good location as 15ish minutes to the train station and 5-10 minutes from Cardiff Castle. Breakfast was nice too
Good location to do some shopping in the town centre. Car park is not well managed. Many people parking outside of designated spots making manoeuvring awkward. Don't bring a large car here! Apparently the car park is managed by another company who hire out spaces to non residents so I guess you cant count on getting a space if your a resident Room was OK but no drawers to store clothes, only a wardrobe. Sink was badly cracked and in need of replacement. Wouldn't want to spend more than couple of nights here. Breakfast was good and the staff mainly pleasant and helpful.
Car parking easy, checking in easy and a bit earlier. Room nice, top floor overlooking Stadium. Quiet room Super comfy beds, bathroom on the small side but served it’s purpose. Great breakfast and friendly Staff. Great Central Hotel. Next time I’m in Cardiff I will definitely booking this Hotel.
we stayed at the Holiday inn Cardiff City Centre on the 28th of October 2022 travelling with Caelloi busses and staying for the weekend we had a marvellous time i would highly recommend the Fish and Chips served at the restaurant
On arrival the room seems ok. The only immediate issue I found was getting out the shower, you practically step on the toilet as there is hardly any room between the bath, wall and toilet to step on the floor. After work I was ready to hit the gym that I saw advertised on their website. After asking reception which direction the gym was I then found out it didn’t exist. I had dinner in the restaurant which the food was abysmal but the servers were fantastic. I had mushrooms to start - the sauce was watery, bread was so wet it had turned to mush and the mushrooms undercooked The chicken dinner was missing the chilli butter on the corn, chicken was cold and dry and the side of veg I ordered were over-boiled, mushy and watery. Still hungry from dinner my mind turned to breakfast. The pre order menu in the room meant to I could order breakfast to the room and my colleague in another room had ordered hers earlier with reception for the next morning. I called to ensure my preorder door hanger wouldn’t be missed to be told “I’m not sure if we still do room service for breakfast I’ll call you back in 10 minutes” An hour goes by and no call so I call back to be told the same thing. Another hour goes by and i call again to be told they definitely do not serve room service breakfast anymore. Next morning, I go downstairs and plate up a bland breakfast and as I finish up, I see them playing up room service breakfasts. There are worse things happening in the world but it was an inconvenience to my morning schedule and after everything else that had gone wrong with the hotel it felt like the cherry on top of the bland, underbaked, lacklustre cake. If I need to return to Cardiff I have asked to not be booked here again.…
