Future Inn Cardiff more often than not receives positive feedback for its roomy and pristine accommodations, complete with comfy beds and handy amenities like bottled water and facilities for making tea. The location is usually seen as a plus, nestled close to Cardiff Bay and Mermaid Quay, with the bonus of complimentary parking. While the service and atmosphere garner mixed reviews, ranging from exceptional to disorganized, the hotel's dated decor and noise disturbances have not gone unnoticed. Nevertheless, guests acknowledge the hotel as a good value, despite some opinions of certain amenities, such as breakfast, being slightly overpriced.

This hotel has a lot of positives and a few negatives.

First the positives...

Free parking is a nice bonus, really handy not having to park away from the hotel.
Great location, short walk to the bay, restaurants nearby, a cinema next door.
The rooms are very nice, well decorated, pretty clean and spacious.
The staff are very friendly and courteous.
The food in the restaurant is pretty good.
The beds are very comfortable.

The Negatives....
This hotel appears to be scapegoating covid19 to give a reduced level of service to guests. I accept that the cleaners cannot clean the rooms at present, but they ask that we leave our dirty bedding, towels, crockery etc outside the door and do not replenish them, guests are expected to go to reception to collect fresh ones. It would be far better if the cleaners knocked on the door and left the fresh items outside the room.
The breakfast for the price is an insult. The portions are small and the ordering system is a mess, you have to put what you want on a sheet of paper and then half the order is forgotten each day, they only give you one slice of toast and one drink of tea, not a pot.

I intend to stay again, because I like the hotel but I won't be having the breakfast.

Dear Brettyboy Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for choosing to stay at Future Inns. I am delighted to hear that your room and the staff were to a high standard, and that the free car parking was an bonus. I do apologize for the standard of service you received in regards to the breakfast service and the room service. It is a very unprecedented and unusual time , and the team at the Future Inn are trying our very best to make sure that the guests still received a high level of service in every part of the hotel. I have passed on your comments to the relevant department in the hope that we can improve on these matters. It is our wish to have the chance to better serve you in the future. We look forward to welcoming you again. Best Regards Emma Shuffley Duty Manager

I stayed here for 3 nights with my 2 teenage children. Never heard of future inns before so not really sure what to expect. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I had booked a room with 2 queen beds but we were given a room with with one bed and one sofa bed!! One of the reasons I chose this hotel is for the 2 beds as many hotels have 1 bed and a sofa bed, which we find very uncomfortable. I went down to reception and showed them my booking confirmation and they instantly gave me another room with 2 beds. The rooms are comfortable but a little tired looking. The blackout curtains lining were all cracked letting in little chinks of light, the carpet had a couple of stains on it, the light shades needed replacing and the air conditioning is too noisy! The customer stair area is also in need of a makeover. The hotel does have many positive points, such as free parking (bonus!!!!), free bottled water, little chocolates on the beds on arrival (nice touch), hairdryer, iron and ironing board and a safe. The staff are excellent and as there are no housekeeping services due to covid, when we needed clean towels, extra tea, etc we just had to ask at reception. There was a one way system around reception and plenty of hand sanitisers and all the staff we saw were wearing masks. We did not eat in the restaurant so I can't comment on the food.
The hotel is in an excellent location - 10 minute walk to the bay where there is a good selection of restaurants. We got an uber into Cardiff city for a bit of shopping for around £5.
Overall this is a very good hotel.

A very good, modern hotel, just 5 mins stroll from all the attractions of Cardiff Bay.
Free parking is a big plus. Other hotels in the Bay don’t have parking, or charge lots for it.
Price similar to the budget chain hotels, but quality is much better - very large and tastefully decorated bedroom, great shower, good aircon.
Wish I’d spotted the £20 three course dinner offer before I’d decided to eat elsewhere, as that sounds like great value.
WiFi in the bedroom was very slow and temperamental (but fast downstairs, so I think it was just a problem in that area).
I though it was pretty poor that when I arrived there were dirty cups, glasses and empty bottles outside many of the bedroom doors, including mine, from when the rooms were cleaned from the previous guests. Maybe it’s just me, but I always feel I don’t want to see remnants from the previous guests when checking into a hotel room, even if those remnants are outside the door.
Anyway, would certainly recommend this hotel for a Cardiff Bay stay.

Booked into the Future Inn, was told their rate on booking couldn’t match the price on their own website so I booked via an online site but had to wait 20 mins for the booking to go through to the F.I system. Got my card and spent another 20 mins and 2 trips back downstairs changing my key card to get into room 129 which was written on my slip. Turns out it was the wrong number. Then I was given a key for 109 and that didn’t work either. So I had to go back down and was accompanied back up by the manager who let me in. I’d been awake for over 24hrs by now and working 14, I just wanted to sleep. The bed was stale smelling but I was so tired I passed out on top of it fully clothed anyway.
Went to work in the morning with no key as none was provided. Finished my shift, came back to the hotel and was given a new card which again didn’t work. Ryan the manager had to reprogram the door.

My room hadn’t been cleaned. I appreciate covid has caused restrictions but you really shouldn’t open if you’re understaffed. The staff worked their butts off but you need to bring more people in, especially to clean and prep the key entry systems. As a consequence, I’m going to have to look elsewhere now which is a shame, as stays in your hotel we’re always previously been enjoyable.

Our first visit to this hotel, it was recommended to us by a relative so we were expecting it to be fine. We weren’t disappointed either. On arrival there was a small queue ( 2 people) waiting to check in and 1 receptionist. Within minutes another staff member came to help with check-ins, so we were checked in really fast by a very friendly and helpful receptionist. Our room was excellent, very clean and spacious, with all the facilities you expect with the addition of bottled water, robes, slippers and a chocolate each. The bathroom was lovely, nice toiletries were provided and in addition a little vanity pack with a couple of little things you tend to forget, cotton buds, nailfile and makeup remover pads. The hotel itself has a nice bar and restaurant, prices are very competitive and all the staff were really welcoming and helpful. We couldn’t fault this hotel and will definitely be back.

We are currently at the hotel and have to say we are disappointed.

Having stayed here on numerous occasions I feel that there are reductions in the service and standards put down to covid without good reason. For example I can not understand why there is no housekeeping. Why is this when it could be provided by staff wearing masks whilst guest are not in their rooms.

In addition the cups we had in our room were dirty and the ones we were issued with from the bar were also dirty. It makes you question the hotels priorities as surely hygiene and cleanliness should be optimised not reduced during Covid.

Rates are still the same but money is being saved on staff, laundry, room extras (toiletries, coffee etc).

I will certainly think twice about staying here again during covid

Stayed here at the end of Feb with another couple on a Sunday evening. Location is great both for Cardiff Bay and Cardiff City Centre, which is approx 2 miles - taxi fare was £6.50, or local bus which is cheaper, or can be walked. Hotel staff were friendly and professional, large rooms which were clean and included tea, coffee, biscuits etc. Nice bar area with friendly staff, and free car parking is a great bonus. We will definitely stay again, as have already booked. We didn’t have breakfast last time but have booked for our next stay.

I have stopped here 3 times over the last couple of years which were all very good i returned this year for 2 nights away and it was very disappointing to say the least especially when i compare to other hotels i have stopped in recently (Hilton, Travelodge, village hotel group etc)

There were no options to have breakfast in room or even no continental breakfast pack options like some travelodges with them running at reduced capacity in the restaurant for breakfast this is terrible to have no back up because once capacity has been reached you can't have nothing for breakfast not even some pastries. When you have to take medicine in the mornings and need to eat before hand it isn't sometimes has simple has having an early lunch out especially with children too.

The restaurant is also closed at lunch time and not even any sandwiches or light bites available and no 24hr room service when i stopped here a few years ago on multiple times they did room service every time.

Room service is something i dont expect them to get rid of while cornavirus is going on if anything you would think they would be trying to encourage it more so less people mix together.

They also seem to be short on staff so maybe this is the reason why.

All this extra stress isn't good especially when you are on a short break/ holiday and are also disabled the little things matter.

I will quickly add that the breakfast for the first night was refunded when i checked in but only when i asked for a refund. At writing this review i haven't tried for a refund for the 2nd night yet will speak to them on check out.

There were no issues with the room it is large and two large queen/ double beds which are comfortable. For the price i paid i dont think i will be returning again while the overall service is like this i would rather stop somewhere that does the service well especially when most hotels in cardiff are around the same price.

The aircon also works great in the room i would say the decor is showing its age now though although clean they still have all the same carpets and decor from when i was here in 2016 and 2017.

Parking is ok disabled parking is very hard to get only i think 4 disabled bays at front of hotel and although i dont like to judge many of these didnt even have badges displayed. The normal parking bays unless you manage to get an end bay are quite narrow. With being disabled on the one night i managed to find an end parking space which gave me enough room to get out and the following day i had to park where the couches park unfortunately.

The parking is free which is a nice added bonus which i find is very rare now a days.

Dear Tariq127 Firstly thank you for choosing to stay at Future Inn and for taking the time to write a view. I am glad that you decide to come back after having previously stayed with us and that you find our beds so comfortable. Please accept my apologies on the breakfast issues. At the time of your stay were still figuring out this new way of serving our breakfast, having only re opened a few weeks before. The decision to stop doing lunches and room service was to stay in line with social distance in respect of how many staff we have in the building at one time, hopefully once this is over we can bring back our lunches and 24hr room service. I will pass on your comments to the relevant department. I do hope that the issues you experience during this stay has not deterred you from staying with us again. Will would love to welcome you back here at the Future Inn to serve you better. Best Regards Emma Shuffley Duty Manager

Stayed 3 nights, family of four with teenagers. Good sized comfortable clean room and bathroom. The beds were comfortable.
The buffet breakfast was cancelled due to the pandemic but they had managed to make alternative arrangements to maintain social distancing.
The house keeping was suspended due to the pandemic but the staff were very helpful whenever we needed fresh towels or teabags and milk etc. I guess everyone is trying to get used to the new normal.
Overall a very pleasant stay. Check in and check out were quick.
Social distancing measures were in place throughout and there wasn't a moment when we felt unsafe on those (pandemic) grounds.
Free parking.
Great restaurants in the Red Dragon Centre region.
The waterfront was an easy walk away with lots more restaurants and activities.
Good location.
Would have given a 5 if the breakfast was not so boring simple and the hotel had been proactive in replacing the tea/ milk/ water.

We have stayed her several times as it is very convenient for what we want to do whilst in Cardiff. We drive down from Staffordshire, park up the car and use this hotel as a base from which to shop and explore Cardiff City Centre.

It is about a ten minute walk to get the bus into the centre and there are several reasonably placed restaurants around Mermaid Quay.

The staff have always been helpful and the breakfast selection is good. having free parking is a real bonus. The bus costs £4 for a day pass so at £8 for the two of us for a day then parking in the city centre is just not worth it.
