Good location for walking or bus into city centre. Attractive hotel, smart front garden. Traditional rooms. We had elegant twin room recently refurbished, very comfortable. Friendly proprietress. Parking easy and free - on road or some at rear of hotel for small cars.

Not currently offering breakfast unfortunately but we look forward to enjoying this when available. Plenty of good local cafés offering breakfast suggested by proprietor.

The hotel offers good value accommodation just a short walk from the city centre. It provides free Wi-Fi and car parking please note access is via an alleyway to the rear with limited room however at time of writing the side streets have no parking restrictions. At time of visit Covid rules applied so no breakfast served. My shared facilities room was very nice but faced the main road so some noise. The shower is on the landing and not very spacious the toilet is at the end of the landing then down 4 steps but not far to go. The toilet had no dryer or hand towels so take your hand towel from room. Overall good value and I would stay again

We stayed at Tanes Hotel last week for a two night break and we were very grateful that we found them.! We had been let down by an Airbnb booking – the room was not as described and was not clean at all – so to come across a beautiful, clean hotel for a good price was a real blessing. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful, the rooms are very well decorated, there are towels, tea and coffee and above all else the place is spotless and quiet. Thank you for saving us from a ruined break – we will definitely be back!

A little old fashioned, but in good decorative order, comfortable and clean, with sanitiser available and generous toiletries and tea tray. A warm but not overbearing welcome.

Unfortunately the WiFi wasn’t great, which wasn’t a big problem until we decided to take advantage of the lovely big smart TV....we couldn’t watch anything unfortunately, aside from sport.

The location is very good. Although on a main road, it is quiet inside. The city centre is a half hour walk, or there is a bus stop just outside. Within 15 mins walk there are restaurants and cafes galore. Once you park up, no need to use the car. There’s a car park, and we easily found some street parking.

We would definitely stay again. Thank you.

This was a great place for a solo traveller. Friendly welcome, clean cheap room and safe parking. Perfect spot to explore Cardiff from and really helpful staff! I would define recommend for those on a budget who want something more private, quiet and clean than a hostel

The room and en-suite were both clean as one would hope for. We were offered only a single key for a twin room and were told after requesting a second, that no more were available. A poster in the hallway states the car park opening hours along with a statement that the proprietor will accommodate any requests outside of these hours (23:00 - 0700). On requesting a departure of 06:30 I was told to park my car on a local street which I refused to do due to having valuables in the car. Although who I presume was the hotel owner eventually agreed to open the car park shutter early, he was clearly unhappy at doing, so telling me "we are not a 24/7 operation". Nor did he advise me how to access the hotel via the rear entrance from the car park leaving a 300m or so walk carrying a couple of heavy bags. I needed to drive into Cardiff city centre later to collect my son but was unable to do so due to the car park being locked - I didn't want to push this with the owner as he was clearly unhappy with my earlier request.
Access to the car park is along a single lane, pot hole ridden alley with a rather tight entrance.
Upon departure we were again required to carry all our bags out of the front entrance, around 300m and into the car park. The hotel is on a main route bus into Cardiff with a bus lane directly outside. Parking the car directly outside the front entrance merely to load or unload is not an option.
My whole experience was less than positive and I would not recommend staying here.

On entering we stepped into dark hallway and lady approached us demanding to know “how did you get in”, the door was open! She proceeded to show us list of names and addresses of all guests (no data protection here!). Our room was warm and smelled stale luckily we were able to open all windows.Nice touch of refreshment tray (oat, soya and dairy milk available).Beds were sort of comfortable but large indentations from previous occupants dictated sleeping position and who ever had the soft fluffy pillows, well definitely not us ! Hard nasty over stuffed cheap foamy lump filling. The overall feeling was “is this place closing down?” Tired, sad and worn out is how we described it.No breakfast available as notice pinned up by front door informed us.

Response from Tane Mladenovic, Owner at Tanes Hotel
Responded 7 Jul 2024
I must strongly deny the claims made in this review. Our establishment is neither tired nor worn out, and we pride ourselves on maintaining a welcoming and well-kept environment for all our guests. Regarding the incident with the lady in the hallway, our staff members are trained to greet guests politely and ensure security. Any misunderstanding regarding how you were addressed is regrettable but certainly not our standard practice. We strictly adhere to data protection regulations and never disclose guests' personal information, only surnames are used - it is a complete lie that guest addresses were visible. The allegation of showing a complete list of names and addresses is completely unfounded. Our rooms are regularly aired out and cleaned to ensure a fresh and pleasant atmosphere. The beds are maintained to provide comfort, and we offer a selection of pillows to cater to different preferences. Your description does not reflect the experiences of our other guests. We clearly communicate the availability of breakfast services, and any changes or notices are prominently displayed for our guests' convenience. I assure you that our establishment is far from closing down, and we are committed to providing a comfortable and enjoyable stay for all our visitors. If you have any specific concerns, please contact us directly so we can address them appropriately.

The hotel is on a bus route to Cardiff town centre about a mile out. It has a car park which can accommodate most guests, and some street parking. The room and beds were comfortable, well lit (separate reading lights for twin beds, wish more places had that!) with a bright modern en suite. Victorian building has no lifts and quite steep stairs so beware if you have heavy luggage. Read the terms as they have quite strict cancellation policy but that is not uncommon now and getting moreso. Not doing breakfasts at present and not in a shop/cafe area, but that didn't bother us. It has bus stops very nearby and buses are quite frequent. About 7-10 mins to Greyfriars area.

Due to a rare red weather warning and Met office advice of not travel due to risk to life (something the band we were going to watch took very seriously as they cancelled a 5000 sold out gig for) I asked the hotel if we could cancel our booking and get a refund, partial refund or change of date. There was t even a discussion, just a flat no and “you should have paid extra for insurance” which I didn’t even see as an option. I thought that the fact we had used the hotel on several occasions over the last few years and the extreme reasons for cancelling, we would reach a compromise. Very unhelpful and needless to say, we won’t be stopping here again.
