A lovely, friendly, laid-back hostel, comfortable and clean. Rob and Val are very accommodating hosts. The location is remote and beautiful, saw some great bird life at the RSPB reserve nearby and the resident badger just outside the hostel!

Positives, the location is absolutely outstanding, we brought our wee dog, had a fantastic walk along the deserted beach and soaked up some of bonnie Scotland at her best. The owner very helpfully gave us a jump start (but "forgot" to ask if we were warm enough or had enjoyed our stay) Negatives, the hostel is very tired, very run...

I stayed at Rattray Head Eco Hostel for 5 nights and I am glad I did. Don't get me wrong it is a hostel with 4 bunk beds per room, shared facilities and self catering. If this is not for you then don't stay there. I came prepared. Prepared also for the bumpy ride along the pot holed lane. But...

It's taken me a while to gather my thoughts on reviewing this property. After reading all of the rave reviews I was so excited to stay here. Sadly, the stay was a disappointment. We checked out the location on google earth so we knew it was remote. That wasn't the issue. Upon arrival the property was unkempt and looked a...

Hello Flatlander3, Thank you for taking the time to carefully review our hostel, even if it was a poor rating. We're sorry that your stay was disappointing. It's too late to remedy your stay, but hopefully I can address most of your concerns here. We are an eco-hostel and pride ourselves on keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum. We...

I like the low-key nature of this place. It is nothing fancy if you stay in the old lighthouse keepers' houses (dorm-style), but it's comfy and warm, the bathrooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The kitchen had two refrigerators and a large freezer and a fireplace/stove. There is a DVD and VHS player with lots of films and...

We went there because of the really good Rating here in TripAdvisor but when we arrived there the hostel had closed.. So we just went to the beach for a second and then left the place. The beach is really beautiful so it is sad that the hostel is closed...

We are sorry that you arrived at our hostel to find that we were on holiday for our daughter's wedding. There is always the risk of no vacancies or hostel closure without enquiring first.

I have stayed at the hostel twice now and both times the welcome as warm as the log burner in the lounge. Rob and Val are great hosts. The location for nature watchers is brilliant. The accommodation is basic but very comfortable and homily. Did I mention the log burning stove in the lounge just what was needed in January...

First, let me clarify that we did not know where exactly we had booked the hostel as we were travelling without a plan around Scotland in time for their festivals and major sports events, so most hostels in towns were booked or expensive. And this turned out to be the best for us as we got to see places we...

First, the very negative: When we came there in April, it was a beautiful, sunny day, but it was really cold in the evening and night. The living room stayed relatively cold and damp, in spite of the heater going on full throttle. But the bed was even worse: I kept shivering through the night because everything was just sooo...
