I stayed at the Royal three years ago and loved it. This time I found it had lost a lot of its charm. Not sure if there are new owners, but something has changed. I got the impression that no one seemed to care about the hotel and its guests. There were a lot of little things that added up... More

Dear Reviewer, Thank you for your comments. We apologize for the shortcomings you noted during your return stay with us. The Royal has not changed ownership, but was experiencing several staff shortages due to illness at the time of your visit. Many of the things you have noted related specifically to that and are not at all what we look... More

We had a great third floor room overlooking the harbour. Furnishings were very good quality, bed was comfortable, room was very clean. Even though the hotel is historic, it has been completely outfitted to modern standards. The restaurant and pub on the first floor are among the best places to eat in Campbeltown

Booked in for a 5 day stay and were not disappointed, staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable. The food was excellent and plenty of it, breakfast set you up for the day. Its right on the Harbour but very peaceful.

We popped into the restaurant for lunch and it was excellent. I see the previous review had qualms with the staff....well I have to say they were all excellent when we were in. They could not have been more helpful or friendly. The food was excellent and beware if you have the sandwich choice it is a meal sized portion.... More

We had travelled from Australia and decided to forage the heritage of the MacAlister clan. It is quite a distance to Campbeltown and we were exhausted when we arrived in town. After visiting the information centre, noting we had past Glenbarr Abbey - the home of the clan, we decided to have lunch at the Black Sheep Pub. Lunch ordered,... More

On a pilgrimage of all things Campbell, we made the drive to Campbeltown (one L) not knowing what to expect. To our surprise the town, and especially The Royal Hotel, surpassed our wildest expectations. Our room was immense, immaculate and furnished beautifully. The hotel's location at the end of the main street overlooking the harbor was perfect. Easy parking on... More

We stayed at the royal hotel for (4)nights and can only describe it as excellent, the rooms are of a very high standard, and the same could be said for the evening meals and for a hotel the prices were very reasonable, added to this the staff were very friendly and welcoming we would have no hesitation in coming again.

A hotel used by golfers, which is no problem, keeps the bar lively with discussions of what could have been. My wife and I were recommended the hotel as a good place to eat as there is a shortage of restaurants in Campbeltown ! The setting is good, harbour front. Our meals were excellent, my wife had chowder and I... More
