In a prime location, right in the centre of the curving esplanade, just a pleasant walk from the shops and harbour, stands Oban's Great Western; a hotel proud of offering space and comfort, as well as magnificent views of the bay (remember to look out for those memorable sunsets!). Ideal for a relaxing holiday, the activity on the bay can simply be watched from the welcoming lounge and cocktail bar, while it's also an ideal touring centre. With Glencoe, serene lochs and the Western Isles on the doorstep, there's a myriad of sightseeing opportunities. And with coast and country walks, angling, sailing, diving, bird-watching and a whole host of other leisure pursuits at hand, you should never be at a loss for something to do.

I stayed here for 2 weeks and had such a lovely time. The rooms are basic but comfortable and have everything you need. I had breakfast and dinner every day and the food was delicious and well cooked. I can't think of one thing I could complain about. What made my stay so great was the staff, they are all super friendly, will help in any way they can and professional. I would go back to this hotel in a minute.

Just back from a family trip with my young child and grandmother. Windows were broken from outside stuck on with celoptape. Mould all over the room. There is no excuse to put someone in this room, I've seen comments about lockdown. If this was the case these rooms shouldn't ever been let out in these states. I am very unhappy and this room was not cheap!

From he outside the Great Western had a slightly scruffy appearance, but a great location overlooking the sea. We booked a Shearings self drive 4 night break with breakfast and evening meal. Our room was newly refurbished and spotlessly clean. The staircase and corridors were in need of an upgrade, but the public rooms were good. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The hearty breakfasts and evening meals were served by very pleasant restaurant staff, particularly Andi {Andrea} who was efficient and hardworking. Overall a good hotel, the staff made us feel very welcome.

Cold rooms , heating switched off at 8.00pm and didn’t come back on till 8.00am, TV in room never worked , when a complaint was made , they said they would get maintenance to sort it , When we went down to breakfast , some of the things we ordered were not available. Maintenance fixed TV , but not heating . I’ve been to Oban several times , The hotel looks fine from outside , it’s the inside that lets it down .

Dear PeggyT I appreciate you taking the time to share your review. I will certainly review the heating system however our bedroom heating isn't on timers and is controlled to the guests liking in the bedrooms so this confuses me greatly. We, like many other businesses are experiencing supply issues on some items, but every effort is made to source locally if needs be. We are fully committed to refurbishing many areas of the hotel over the coming months and would hope should you stay with us again in the future that improvements would be noticed. We hope to welcome you to the Great Western again in the future. Kind regards Vicki Glen General Manager
