Ok, so we are lucky enough to travel lots therefore aware of hotel standards and with Oban Bay Hotel it’s a bit of a mixed bag of sweet and sours! Let’s get the negatives out of the way… Parking…very limited and not easy if you have lots of items particularly if your travelling with a dog. We had to park behind a local cathedral albeit it was a few minutes walk however be cautious if you have mobility issues. Rooms. If your booking in with a dog avoid certain rooms, in particular room 63, as a door bang opposite that is used constantly so not good for our furry friends and barking! Waiting staff. Numerous issues when ordering food and we weren’t alone. Dishes were back & forward to kitchen due to incorrect orders also two couples walked out as they waited for almost an hour and still hadn’t been attended to. What a loss for a business! Food. It was mediocre and certainly not value for money. Dry burgers and no offer of any condiments. We weren’t prepared to wait another 45 minutes on food so ate some of it. Breakfast. Again totally confusing as staff were disorganised. Again wrong dishes brought to us and there could be a much easier way to manage breakfasts for residents. Some part buffet would make much more sense (others we spoke with said same) Noise. When sitting in conservatory to eat the outside door to seating area bangs constantly. Very annoying when all you want is some quiet time. Reception staff. If there are issues then please don’t discuss them in-front of customers. We requested another room given we had dog, they upgraded us to suit (a great improvement) that said we would never consider paying £450 for this per night, it was nice enough but certainly not worthy of high rate (we book suites regularly and get much more for our money.) I would value a ‘suit’ like this at approx £230 per night Positives…. View. Our suite gave us a fantastic outlook onto Oban Bay which was perfect. Dog friendly. Dogs are welcomed and staff appeared happy approaching our furry friends. Dog bowls in rooms (a few doggy treats would be nice though) but a huge bonus was our pooch came to breakfast & dinner with us! Area. So close to Oban which is a beautiful 10 minute walk away and fantastic access to ferry’s so if your travelling across the highlands & islands then its a great pit stop. Cleanliness. I have to say this really is the focal point as the hotel was immaculate. So if you like a clean crisp environment then this is the hotel to stay in. Amenities. Lots of nice little extras in rooms. Good old Scottish biscuits, gorgeous toiletries and great tea and coffee so Scottish products (a nice touch) All in all it was a mixed bag….staff need additional training to bring this overall score up.

Pro: The view is gorgeous and the location was good. Bar was a great place to have a drink. Con: reception staff very perfunctory. Seemed keen on booking spa services. Breakfast was just okay. Eggs very overcooked. Long wait for coffee. Never asked if we wanted more than our meager 2 cups. How can kitchen be out of yoghurt for two days? Dinner was edible and underwhelming. Staff seems stressed/overworked. Tough time to be in a service industry. Bath was tiniest I ever experienced. Fluffy towels. The shampoo/soap products had an overpoweringly strong odor. Room was cramped and warm.

I am very late in reviewing this. This was a lovely hotel. Amazing staff whose names I cannot remember (sorry) - there was a wonderful waitress who had been born on one of the islands and she was fabulous. She went above and beyond. Fantastic room with a great view. Conservatory area was great to sit and eat in or just have drinks in the evening. The atmosphere with the bar was great and we felt that we connected with the bar staff. We also enjoyed the thermal experience - enjoying treats from the bar, hot tub, etc. Fantastic spot for it. Some poor communication - we had issues with the room (hot water only out of the cold taps) and we would speak to one member of staff and then later the message did not seem to be passed to other staff. HOWEVER - although the hot water issue was not sorted whilst we were there - the hotel went above and beyond to help us. They offered us another room but we were already in love with our room and the alternatives were another floor up (no lift). They gave us various packages in compensation (which we felt were really good). Some staff on breakfast were young and giggly - I asked for a hard egg one morning and it wasn't and when I tried to send it back - the waitress was just giggly and I felt really awkward. However, majority of staff were spot on and went above and beyond. Overall this was our second stay in a Crerar Hotel and we would definitely stay with this chain again.

First time to Oban Bay and this hotel. We have stayed in other hotels in the same chain so we were confident all would be ok and it really was!! Check in was quick and we were greeted by a lovely receptionist who was very helpful. The decor is modern with a traditional twist and very welcoming. We ate at the hotel (highly recommend the pizza!), service was exceptional throughout, nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic views over the bay, very easy to lose hours sat on the deck with a drink. Our room was lovely and spacious with the worlds comfiest bed. Best nights sleep in a long time followed by the most delicious Scottish breakfast. I won’t hesitate in returning, in fact we are already booked for a return trip soon. Well done Marc and team..we will see you soon!

I stumbled upon this beautiful hotel and the reception team went out there way to find me a lovely room with a stunning view of the bay Alice checked me in and gave me great recommendations of where to go in oban and was very helpful. I slept like a log and melted in the big luxurious clean bed and had a wonderful sleep the following day I had one of the best full Scottish breakfast served by ilona in the restaurant she was very friendly and great to chat to I then had a coffee in the conservatory where I relaxed and people watched. Overall the staff were amazing and made my stay! I would differently come back to oban for a wholesome weekend at the oban bay.

Really disappointed with this hotel - booked this last year to ensure we secured a good room.- i phoned the hotel directly from overseas as we also needed to ensure a twin not a double and recieved the confirmation of this. On arrival, it was a double room they had for us, even though when the receptionist checked the booking notes it said twin. We were given the key and were told the room was being converted to a twin which housekeeping were still doing when we finally got to the room -yes i can see why this room was not normally a twin- nothing like the website pictures- hurridly set up, tiny room, no aircon, tiny bathroom - knees hit shower screen when sitting on toilet, found bottle cap and paper on floor from previous guest I assume. The room was hot at night so we had to keep window ajar and no top sheets on bed just a really heavy feather divet-its not winter! Rabbit warren corridors with stairs before you get to a lift.-no assistance with luggage-just the receptionist pointing vague directions. I also have to say the bfast & dinner deal that i was assured was great value - forget it. Nothing decent under GBP30 pp for dinner and what was recieved was astounding to say the least (see picture). We were also told we had to book our breakfast times but then the times we suggested were not available - so more than one time we suggested, they couldnt work with-so we worked our plans around them..... Some staff also need further customer service training and were openly quite dismissive and rude and not only to us it seems. Yes views from the front are great but very over priced accommodation and food for what was actually delivered. This hotel has a great website but reality was very different for us.

I really am surprised to see so many great reviews of this hotel and can only assume that anything above a 1 star rating has been influenced by the amazing view. The view really is spectacular but you can appreciate that by having a walk along the bay and not overpaying for terrible service and a sub par breakfast. After a long stressful drive the last thing you want is to be confronted with not 1 but 2 receptionists devoid of customer service skills and find out there is no parking available and you need to park in the overspill car park round the corner (only to discover when trying to park there it’s full too and have to go and find parking elsewhere). Not to mention the overspill is a long narrow strip that you need to reverse all the way back down as it’s too narrow to turn. Good service would have been for the hotel to know both places to park were full. We were asked what time we wanted breakfast and when I said I wasn’t sure I was quite rudely told I must give them a time as it is an a la carte breakfast. I then said ok 9am. Then was told 9am was not available so had to go at 9.30am. I wasn’t really happy with this so the receptionist next to the one checking us in felt the need to chime in and tell me sternly it is not a buffet it is a la carte and the hotel is fully booked. Good service would have been to let me know what times were available and maybe sympathise with the fact the car parks full and I can’t have breakfast at the time I’d like. As I walked away with my heavy bags and key the 2nd receptionist loudly asked if there was a problem in a tone that seemed she was spoiling for a fight. Disgusted by the attitude of the receptionists I continued to my room with its tiny bathroom where sitting on the toilet meant hitting your knees on the shower door. The ‘a la carte’ breakfast the next day was nothing short of ridiculous. We went to the restaurant at 9.30 which was already later than we wanted and after being shown to a table we waited a further 18mins before anyone offered us tea or coffee and took our order. I began to get a bit stressed at this point as we had plans we needed to get to and as I had been made to believe the breakfast was cooked to order I was worried we wouldn’t have time to eat it. Imagine my surprise when our cooked breakfasts arrived 2-3mins later. Impossible for that to have been cooked fresh and the food itself extremely disappointing. It was greasy and the ‘highland breakfast sausage’ is one of the most revolting things I have ever encountered. The people at the table next to us had scrambled eggs which looked like they had been boiled to death. The next day I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Better but never in my life have I ordered it for breakfast in a hotel and only got half a muffin and one egg. As if all this wasn’t bad enough when I arrived back at the hotel later in the afternoon I tried to turn the tv on only to find the remote had gone missing. I can only assume the person making up the room bundled it up in the sheets and took it away. Luckily we had friends staying in the hotel and we were able to borrow theirs as they didn’t need it. On the first morning I heard another couple complaining about their stay at reception and I wasn’t surprised. It’s such a shame that a beautiful hotel in an amazing location is so disappointing. I see the manager keeps commenting on here how important customer service is to them but it can’t be that important when absolutely no one working their has a clue how to deliver it.

We stayed at the Oban Bay hotel for one night and my first impression was how lovely the hotel looked. We were checked in by a very nice lady and were given a room on the 1st floor. The room was so pretty and I loved the bathroom. Breakfast was tasty. I would love to visit again for longer next time and also try their spa.
