#8 of 14 hotels in Oban
A beautiful 4 star hotel branded through Best Western Muthu Queens Oban situated next to the bay of Oban with wonderful views of the Island of Kerrera. The Best Western Muthu Queens Hotel is a magnificent building, with its own interesting history. The hotel is believed to have been built for the 1st Episcopalian Bishop of Argyll and the Islands, to become his home in the late 19th Century. At present, the building maintains the old world charm The hotel is proud to welcome their guests with unparalleled views over Oban Bay, an elegant interior and some of the best food in Oban. The Best Western Muthu Queens Hotel in Oban has been substantially refurbished to offer both Victorian charm and modern, functional accommodation. Stunning views can be found both inside and out, as the hotel boasts beautiful, cozy reception rooms and outdoor views of Oban that stretch for miles across the water. The friendly team of staff are just as inviting, keen to offer the warmest of welcomes and assistance to all guests. Reassuringly, you'll be staying in the only 4-Star full service hotel on the West Coast of Scotland – so there is no doubt about the quality you will enjoy. The lovely resort town of Oban offers plenty of attractions inside and outside of its parameters. Dunollie Castle stands just on the outskirts the town, and provides glorious views that reach the Island of Kerrera. The falls of Lora can be found just six miles away from Oban, and prove a perfect day out for any adrenaline junkies or budding photographers. Treat yourself to some kayaking, diving, a ferry trip to visit one of the most beautiful islands in Scotland or simply enjoy the outstanding scenery that is waiting to be snapped. We’d highly recommend Loch Creran for some of the most peaceful fishing around, just 30 minutes away from the hotel.

Staff were nice, however the hotel is in a poor state. We asked to move rooms twice as the 1st 2 hadn't been cleaned or hoovered there were clumps of hair/ tumble weeds on the floors, dried residue on the bedside table with hairs stuck in it. Valance sheets were also dirty. The sockets and switches were in the middle of the headboard which is pretty nuts! When the bathroom is being cleaned behind the door is missed as it was full of dust bunnies, hair and pubes. Shower head was broken and spraying everywhere and tge screen was useless and not sealed causing the bathroom to flood. There is also damaged asbestos board on back of laundry door which was left open with laundry bags bumping against it etc. We booked through booking.com however after we left the property tge booking was canceled, they claim it was a mistake and that they would revert it however the hotel haven't done this - I suspect this is a tactic so you can't leave a review on that platform. All in all an extremely disappointing experience, totally below standards and frankly there are some concerns with how safe and fit the building is. Staff shortages may play in tonit a bit but there's no excuse for having filthy rooms. If you're expecting 4star standards (as portrayed on booking.com) then do not stay here as you will be thoroughly disappointed.

Just finishing a three night stay at the Muthu queens hotel in Oban in a partial sea view room. The five rating is mostly down to the staff all of which have been very friendly and attentive esp the waitress at breakfast, and both the evening meal and breakfasts have been good. The bedroom itself is fine, comfortable super king size bed and decent pillows. Bathroom ok but does have a tendency to flood a bit when using the shower, stained skirting boards shows we were not the first to encounter this.

The only good thing about this hotel is the staff, especially the receptionist and waiting staff who were all lovely and very helpful. However the hotel is tired and needs a complete overhaul as it's extremely tired and dated. Bathroom had mould round the shower and skirtings. The corridors are dismal and very unloved and this hotel needs a lot of work to bring it up to a decent standard unfortunately. Room 10 had a terrible view at the back and we were woken just after 7am by someone moving bins and making a lot of noise. Our room wasn't cleaned while we were there and I was told they were still working on cleaning the rooms at 6pm at night. I didn't expect a full clean but some fresh towels would have been appreciated. There was a bottle of water in the room but the seal was broken so it looked as though it had been filled from a tap or someone else had used it. The food was adequate but could definitely be better quality and the service at dinner one night was awful as they totally forgot about us and waited 50 minutes for our starters. Staff were apologetic but still not great. Definitely would book somewhere a bit better if we had to return to Oban. Also very limited parking at the hotel so we had to park on the street which we had to pay for and was extremely busy.

Room Tip: Try and book a room at the front of the hotel and not at the back as the outlooks is awful.

This hotel is not up to Best Western standards. We stayed 3 nights, one would have been more than enough and we would have moved had we not paid. The room was small, there was little room to move around, the beds with old fashion mattresses were uncomfortable. The hotel seemed to be run by basically 3 people, a receptionist, a waitress at breakfast and a young man who was the only person we saw attending to rooms many of which were still being cleaned late in the afternoon. There seemed to be no management or anyone senior person supervising the running of the hotel. Breakfast was from 7.30 but not always ready at that time. We knew there was no parking, but we did not expect to have to pay to park opposite the hotel if we arrived back before 6pm or left the hotel after 9am. Look elsewhere for your accommodation.

The Dining Room experience was a bit weird. I asked for a Wine List and the waitress said they didn't have one, but if we could tell her what we would like to drink she'd provide it - she knew what they had and what they didn't. I thought, would it be too much to expect that management might type out on a piece of paper what the waitress apparently knew, and call it a Wine List?! I had a perfectly good grilled salmon dish, but my wife chose to have a burger which turned out to be like a piece of rubber, almost impossible to cut. When she managed to extricate a small piece, she said it tasted horrible and impossible to chew. We sent it back, and the waitress returned with a message from the Chef .. "He can do you another one, but it will be exactly the same". That is a mad response to a complaint. In the end she had fish and chips, which was OK apart from the fact that it was impossible to open any of the vinegar sachets provided.
