We arrived at the Barr Farmhouse halfway through a long slow journey home from the Highlands. We were greeted by Orla with a delicious afternoon tea in the sitting room. Genuine hospitality from the Stairmuids right through until breakfast (expertly conjured by Roy) with nothing being too much trouble. Booking through Visit Scotland was easy and straightforward too.

Dear Roy & Orla, We enjoyed every day the hospitality, the nice conversations we have had together, the fantastic breakfast and of course the beautiful Scottish scenery, hope we can come back next year all the best, Paul

What a fantastic place to stay. I was MTB racing in the Forrest of Ae over the weekend and this is only a few miles away(the closest i think), easily ridable. A secure shed was available to store the bike and Roy kindly provided a hose and some cleaning facilities. Breakfast was fantastic, a great selection. The scrambled egg and...

We booked two nights here for my husband's birthday and I don't know that we could have picked a more relaxing and hospitable home to stay in. We were warmly welcomed with afternoon tea (and a quick hello to the lovely collies at my request!) and a good chat with Roy and Orla, who had left a birthday note in...

We had a wonderful time at Barr Farmhouse for one night. The place is off the main road so there is minimum noise and a nice country view from the garden. After a very delicious breakfast, we sat at the table chatting with Roy till noon on so many topics. Overall, the experience was good and we rested well and...

Roy and Orla are caring hosts with great suggestions for dining and attractions. However, Orla does go on a bit. There are only two rooms, both up a flight of steep stairs. Neither has a bath ensuite. Our room had a bathroom down 4-5 steps off the landing. Not very convenient for those who go many time during the night....

Our time at Barr Farmhouse with Orla and Roy was way too short. The guest rooms were very comfortable, the common room was welcoming and bright, and the breakfast delicious (and substantial). Orla and Roy are warm, welcoming hosts and are happy to share their knowledge of the area. And there are two very sweet border collies. We will be...

Only booked one night to stay with Roy and Orla at Barr Farm - big mistake, we could have stayed for a week, although I don't think Roy would have got any work done! Roy was the ultimate host, we didn't stop talking for hours due to our common interests of vet science, travelling etc. Due to her work commitments...

Roy and Orla have a beautiful home which they share with their guests and the special way in which they run their business and promote the area, together with the warmth of their personalities and generous hospitality, means that The Barr is very deserving of its 4 Star Gold standard rating.
