Stayed at the Lauren House B&B for one night in October 2021. Great location for a short 5 minute walk into the city centre. Very friendly host and lovely spacious clean and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was wonderful. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful relaxing stay at Lauren House Bed and Breakfast over the bank holiday. The accommodation was very nice and very clean. The beds were comfortable! One of highlights was the breakfast in the morning. Jackie is a wonderful hostess and nothing is too much trouble, Our breakfast was very nice and served hot and met our vegetarian requirements. Jackie was very kind and the information she shared about Dumfries and the surrounding area was extremely helpful and interesting. We stayed with our two children in the family room, Another bonus was secure off road parking. We would highly recommend this unique place for an overnight visit or an extended stay and we would definitely like to visit them again soon! It was like home from home.
I just don't have enough fabulous things to say about this b&b. The room was spacious and beautiful - we stayed in the lilac room and all the thought and effort that had gone in to co-ordinating everything made me smile. It was immaculately clean, the breakfast was brilliant and the owner was absolutely lovely. Very friendly, accomodating and welcoming. There was parking too on site and it was a nice walk into the centre. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
A wonderful introduction to our trip round Scotland. Jackie was a fantastic host, she made us feel more like we were staying with a family member than paying for somewhere to stay. During our visit, Jackie gave us great recommendations for sights around the city and further along our trip and provided a fantastic breakfast. The B&B is a 5 minute walk to the city centre and onsite parking meant it was really easy to leave our car at the venue whilst we explored.
I have just returned home after cutting short my weekend in Dumfries following a very unpleasant night at Lauren House. I cannot rate any of the guest house's facilities as I did not stay long enough to use any of them other than the bed and toilet, both of which were functional. We were welcomed on arrival and shown around the room by a lady who gave us lots of useful info on restaurants and take-always in the area. She told us that we were welcome to use the dining room to eat takeaway food if we desired. My partner and I spent the evening in town with friends and then purchased take away pizza to take back to the B & B. We got home at midnight and quietly entered the building and sat in the dining room to eat. There was virtually no conversation as after one bite of pizza I went upstairs to get ready for bed. Once inside the bedroom I heard a raised female voice coming from the dining room and went back down to investigate. I was met with a woman wearing a dressing gown and slippers who I took to be our host from earlier who was engaged in a serious conversation with my partner. I asked if there was a problem and was immediately told to lower my voice as I would disturb the other guests. I explained that my voice was not raised and again asked if there was a problem. The reason for the woman's appearance in the dining room was never explained other than saying that she 'heard us come in and wondered if something was wrong'. I assumed that she had a problem with us consuming food in the dining room and reminded her that we were doing exactly what she had advised earlier. We returned to the house that evening and entered the building quietly and respectfully. There was no noise other than hushed conversation. I can only assume that this lady was awake and awaiting our return and wanted to let us know that she did not approve of our behaviour in a manner that I have not experienced since being a teenager at home a very long time ago. The woman never actually vocalised her issue with us but engaged in lots of passive aggressive 'keep your voice down' and 'turn the lights off when you leave' . I went back to bed with the woman at my back, still talking about us not having filled in our breakfast sheets or some other such nonsense. I had to tell her that I was done with the conversation and close the bedroom door on her still talking face. I understand that there is a small town way of living and that midnight is probably way past most residents bedtime, however, if you take in paying guests you need to understand that their lifestyles may not entirely conform with your own. I see that the reviews on here are overwhelmingly good and do not doubt the quality of the facilities or the commitment of the owners but I was treated badly last night. I paid for 2 nights and left as soon as I awoke and returned home. My planned weekend away has proved to be an expensive non starter thanks to the poor treatment I received last night. I'll give Dumfries another try in the future but will book into an established hotel where the staff do not expect guests to conform to their life rules. Not impressed unfortunately and cannot recommend to anyone who goes to bed after 9.30pm.…
