3of my friends and I had an overnight here at the weekend. I was a wee bit dubious as we knew it was part hostel. We stayed in a private room for 4 on the floor above the hostel rooms. It was very quite despite there being a large group of young persons and also what looked like a stag...

The beds are so hard it's impossible to sleep, it's so noisy with doors constantly banging, day and night. The acoustics are terrible, all hard surfaces with loads of fire doors clattering shut at all hours, this is the worst hotel I've stayed at ever, and not the cheapest. I complained to the bar staff (at 1am) that the music...

Hi Matt, Thank you for providing feedback on your stay at The West End Hotel Edinburgh. I am sorry your stay was not as enjoyable as you expected on this occasion. We do provide live music at weekends which always finishes at 11:30pm and we ensure is is acoustic to avoid noise travelling to hotel rooms. Unfortunately as you stayed...

I stayed in an eight bed dorm and was really pleased with the hotel and the level of service I received. It was clean and modern, and the staff were really friendly to me, particularly Lisa behind the counter. I would definitely come here again when I come back to Edinburgh!

Stayed at the Westend Hotel on Thursday 3rd November, we managed to get the very last room at the top of the hotel, there is no lift as it's a Victorian town house , with dorms on the first floor sleeping up to 8 in a room. Our room was delightful we could see Edinburgh castle lit up at night,...

I stayed there for three nights with a friend in the 8-bed shared dorm. It was ok. The bartender-receptionist informed us on arrival that if our key cards did not work after 1 am we would have to pay a 5 pound fee for them to open the door for us, because the cards only stop working 'when they are...

Stayed here with a group of friends at the start of September and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were able to check in early, which helped avoid having to carry excess bags about Edinburgh (although we were advised that bags can be left if need be - a handy service!). The place was very clean throughout. The staff were very professional,...

Pros: Comfy bed, good location, very quiet room, Cons: Greatly improved cleaning needed in dorm and toilets, bordering on health hazard. power point by each bunk. New sheets. Location: Edinburgh Fringe good location. Firstly, to be fair, I stayed on the busiest weekend of the year during the Edinburgh Fringe , so the hostel was at full capacity. Check in...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
