It worked fine for our use, which was a pied a terre for the fringe festival. The place is 4 star, so I don't expect it to be top end. For our purpose, it suited us fine, beds were comfy, bathrooms were good, kitchen was very useable. Location superb. I would rate it 5 but it's missing the little things...

We stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment on Advocates Close, about 10 steps off the Royal Mile opposite St. Giles' Cathedral. It was an amazing location right in the middle of everything. It's less than a 10 minute walk to Edinburgh Castle and about a 20 minute walk to the Palace of Holyroodhouse at the other end. The apartment was much...

This was a great way to stay right in the city and have lots of room and comfort. The check in office is down a close, but that just made it all the more interesting. The staff was very nice and helpful and the apartment was very nearby in Old Fishmarket Close. Ya, it can be a bit hard to...

Situated right opposite St Giles Cathedral, it could not have occupied a more central location on Royal Mile. Parking can be a bit of a hassle if you are driving but loading and unloading are not a problem right in front of the entrance. You have to park either at the Blackfriars Street Carpark, which is closer but more expensive,...

It was hard finding the place to pick up the keys. It was hidden down an alleyway. After picking up the keys, we went to the Johnston apartment. Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
