All in all a very good hotel for the price, we encountered a couple of problems but these were dealt with very smoothly and efficiently. We will definitely be staying here again on our next visit to this fantastic city.

Just back from two night stay-rooms adequate but lacking natural light-very dark. However bed extremely comfortable and location great for all the sights. Staff very friendly and courteous- special mention must be made of the lady who served us breakfast (think her name was Ruth) - she is a credit to the hotel. Nothing too much bother for her. Ate...

Booked a suite as there was an excellent deal on, room 852. Suite was excellent, hotel location couldn't be much better. Only minus was the evening meal which we elected to eat in the restaurant, I had pigeon breast starters, which was really good. Venison main course tasted great but not much of it. My wife had Cod and again...

Loved staying here. Everything was modern and clean, excellent staff and food and well placed in the city center. Although a spa and pool is advertised, it's not worth making that the sole reason for your visit here. The pool is freezing and the spa and sauna facilities are tiny. Overall a good experience, shame about the spa/pool but would...

We stayed here for 2 nights. Very friendly and helpful staff, well situated for main attractions.room was well equipped, however no toilet scrubber... Barthroom not clean (found some pubic hairs from former guests on the toilet seat..., dusty edges etc.), view outside is terrible, we looked straight at another house and a dirty machine...daylight doesn't get into the room -->...

Just got back from a 2 night stay in this lovely, central hotel. Can't fault the place - lovely large room, very comfy bed. Nice, clean bathroom and generally good facilities. Had dinner in the hotel on first night - absolutely delicious and breakfast the first morning. If you think you might want this pre-book when you check in for...

Beautiful hotel with friendly professional staff , location is brilliant just round from the train station and a small walk down into the centre. The bar has lovely cocktails and a relaxing atmosphere. The continental breakfast was lovely although a little expensive , the pool area was a great experience and very clean. I would defiantly come back to this...

We have just come back from a 3 night stay here in a deluxe double room. I have to say the room was fabulous, lovely big windows (3!) massive bed and a cot for my son. Housekeeping was very attentive to the room and provided a great service. The staff were lovely and the hotel itself great location, lovely and...

We stayed for three nights in an executive room. The receptionist who checked us in was friendly and made us feel welcome. The room we were given was lovely. Lots of space and good views. The room had lots of great little extras that made our stay more comfortable. We used the bar for drinks and snacks, both were very...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
