Stayed for 1 night on the dinner bed and breakfast deal-total £175 for deluxe room on top floor. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Hotel is just at the end of Princes Street so is ideally located to see all that Edinburgh has to offer only a few minutes walk away. It's also just perfectly placed that it's quiet too. All...

Easy walking distance to Royle Mile and other areas of the city. Nice large rooms and bathrooms. Enjoyed taking photos of the little duck around the city. Cooked breakfast tasty and good selection of cereals. Staff accommodated my dietary needs but were unable to vouch for something they bought in as to whether it had dairy in it or not...

stayed in this hotel for 4 days. Biggest advantage is obviously the proximity to the city center. You just step outside of the hotel and are right next to Princess street. Very convenient. The staff is nice and the rooms, as well as the hotel itself is very clean and beautiful.I´d recommend it anytime, excellent for a sightseeing trip.

Hotel is within a 5 minute walk from the train station. The rooms are comfortable and a good size. The location is amazing, very close to Carlton Hill, and Prince Street and not far from Arthur's Seat or the Castle. Its a very good base to go exploring. There are a few food places nearby and the hotel restaurant is...

Lovely hotel. Great location, walking distance from Waverley Station. Nice staff. Great facilities in the spa, although the swimming pool is on the small side. My only improvement that I would like to see is a spinner to dry your swimwear added in the changing rooms as there isn't a clothes line to hang your wet swimwear in the bathroom....

When planning my visit to Edinburgh I wanted a good quality hotel that was centrally located and near to the train station and to the Edinburgh Playhouse. The Apex Waterloo Place certainly met all of our needs. The hotel is in a very good location at one end of Princes street. We had a superior room which we were pleased...

The hotel was in a good location. We took the airport express bus (4 pounds each) to the Waverly stop and the hotel was just a short walk. So easy we also took the express bus back to the airport. Very close to the hop on hop off bus stop and within walking to Royal mile and train station. Our...

Received a voucher for here for high tea and wouldn't rate it. We've been to a few hotels now for high tea and this has to be the worse so far. You only recurve 1 cup of tea and when the food arrived there is no explanation as to what you are receiving, you're just left to get on with...

Last week we went to Edinburgh to celebrate my husband's birthday, this was our third time there and decided to try the Apex Waterloo. The hotel is greatly located, only 5 minutes walking from waverley bridge, where our airlink bus left us and where all the hop-on buses leave, 2 mins. from Princess Street and its shops, the North bridge...

Just spent 3 nights in this beautiful hotel. The location is ideal; right next to the train station (Weaverly). Hotel is adjacent to Calton Hill and within a 10 minute walk to the Royal Mile. Lots of restaurants within a 5 minute walk. Tour companies and tour bus stops are literally right outside. What sets this hotel apart is the...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
