Initially, it was a strange experience driving into an Edinburgh University Campus to find that The Scholar Hotel is an integral part of the University, holly owned & run by staff employed by the University. Clean, modern & well equipped rooms, staff who delivered top grade customer services, excellent food and easy parking - what more could you ask for? We enjoyed our 2 day stay in Edinburgh using the first class bus service to get around & explore the city, as well as being in walking distance of "Arthur's Seat" situated close by. We will definitely return to the hotel next time we get n opportunity to return!

This place is clean and tidy with a fabulous yard. The furniture and fitting are classic and clean. The window in my room is a bit broken but still can be used and there is no dirt on it. Room is big with a large wardrobe and bathroom. I think this place has good value.

Very good quality conference hotel set in the grounds of Edinburgh University. We stayed in a double room , the furnishing are excellent and comfortable . Quality tea and coffee ( bottled water would have been a nice addition) . Good breakfast , the only negative on this was I ordered porridge and what arrived was porridge oats covered by hot milk , it hadn’t been cooked . A bit of a disaster !! It’s about a 30 minute walk into central Edinburgh or a bus / taxi ride. I would stay again

Brilliant hotel on part of Edinburgh University site. Dont be put off by the student halls look of the building, the rooms are very spacious and modern with amazing toiletries provided. Breakfasts (included as part of booking) were very tasty and filling and staff were attentive and interested in you as guests to the city. Specific car park for hotel but others available close by if full. 1 mile walk to the top of Arthur's seat and a 40 min walk to main sights in city although there is a bus stop opposite. Would happily stay again.

All I can say is, wow! What a great place to stay for a week of work at the UoE. All the staff are incredibly helpful and very friendly. The rooms are fantastic and though the establishment is small, it deserves a five-star rating. I can not wait to visit Edinburgh and stay there again.

We chose this hotel because we had a car and wanted free parking. It is in the university grounds and is one’s by the uni but was beautifully appointed , good value, clean , and had a fantastic buffet breakfast included. We had 2 teens so chose the room for 4 which had a queen bed and a sofa bed. Of course that made it squeezy but you get what you pay for! It is a good 25-30 mins walk to the royal mile. There is a bus right out the front which costs 1.80 pounds pp. or a taxi costs 7 pounds to the royal mile. There is a huge indoor pool and gym right next door too. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Excellent choice

LOVED this place. The Scholar felt cosy but spacious. The reception staff were so friendly and accommodating and even offered us complimentary Prosecco on our NYE arrival. Every interaction with staff was seemless and even enjoyable, from booking a taxi to asking for NYE recommendations. Our deluxe room was gorgeous with a comfy couch, tea station and big bed. It even had an iron and ironing board. The windows and heaters allowed us to choose what temp we were living in too. The shower pressure was awesome too. We didn’t buy breakfast originally, but bought it there and thoroughly enjoyed the Scottish breakfast and the continental buffet Brekky too. In terms of placement, we were very happy to be close to so many pubs, bars and restaurants but still within the quieter uni grounds. Would 300% stay again and again. …

£765 for a 3 night B&B stay from 2nd December for a supposedly deluxe room was poor value for money. Photos on the website bore no resemblance to our room. Not even a bottle of water in the room or in reception for my wife to take her late evening meds. On a brighter note the staff at breakfast were friendly and helpful.

Dear markrZ4868LX, Thank you for taking the time to review The Scholar following your stay. I am sorry to hear on this occasion we have failed to live up to your expectation. Your feedback in regards to your rates have been shared with the team to ensure we are well placed within the Edinburgh hotel market and to offer an excellent value for money experience for our guests. All our rooms in the Scholar are deluxe and at this moment we do not offer bottled water however this is available for purchase from reception or our catering outlets. I am pleased you enjoyed your breakfast experience and if you are considering returning please let me know so I can take care of your reservation requirements. Warmest regards, Robert Kitzinger
