We were upgraded to a beautiful room, the staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble, the outside bistro was really good with plenty of heaters when it became chilly and the indoor restaurant was great with a good choice of menu. Very clean, good location.

We had a great experience honeymooning here. They upgraded our room and left us champagne and chocolate with a special note. The beds were very comfortable and the showers, heavenly! My husband is a whiskey enthusiast and embraced their whiskey bar- they were happy to serve us even past midnight. The wine selection isn't bad either! We're thrilled!

Wanted something a bit different and not too large and impersonal but near the action. This fitted all those requirements. Excellent service, comfortable standard room in a great Old Town location. Easy to walk anywhere in central Edinburgh from here. Staff pleasant and professional. Bistro looked good although we only ate breakfast here, excellent quality.

You don't really feel at home, noone asks to help you. The bed was like concrete to lie on, breakfast expensive. Coffee and toast, marmelade and cornflakes £44. Dinner was served very late, afternoon tea expensive. Lounge was very very expensive.

Dear Lisa-Lotte B Thank you for your feedback following your stay at Hotel du Vin this month. It was disappointing to read that you did not enjoy your experience. Our pricing is currently in line with other 4* properties within the city although this may be slightly higher than a bar, we do endeavour to deliver the service alongside with...

I received a great discount from hdv by email and for £99 we had a 2 night stay here in a standard room. fantastic. The hotel is in a great place and the building is lovely. Rooms are always exceptionally clean although id say the rooms were on the small side and the bathroom was a tight squeeze. But for...

Off the Royal Mile but not on an overly busy street. Great rooms, nice bar, friendly staff. Courtyard rooms are definitely a plus. Did the superior double which has a great shower and a nice amount of space. Easy to walk to the main tourist areas.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for two separate nights around a Highlands excursion. The rooms are quite nice and have plenty of room. In the first room the bathroom floor was heated! Nice touch. The showers had plenty of water pressure. The hotel stored one of our bags while we were gone which was a big help....

I received a great welcome here after a VERY long day travelling from the south of England. All the staff were friendly and looked after me. The room was superb, the bars (I tried more than one!) were very comfortable and the service excellent. A great meal with attentive service. Definitely a location to revisit. Highly recommended

I was brought up not to judge books by their covers, but sadly all too often this is exactly what happens at hotels like this. As a young solo traveller in a well-appointed (albeit pricy) hotel, some of the staff were lovely to me but some really obviously looked down their noses at me and treated me like the poor...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
