Right in the centre of Edinburgh, this lovely old building really works as a hotel (for me). I'm always impressed if I have a super comfortable bed (tick) and a powerful shower (double tick - it's like being in a rain forest). And on top of that there is a 24 hour bar. The breakfast we OK, nothing too much...

Hotel du Vin is conveniently located in the heart of Edinburgh. The rooms are a decent size and the furniture is very comfortable. Good beds and an excellent bathroom. Good choices for breakfast and good service from the reception staff.

I took my wife here for her birthday weekend. The room was really well presented, clean and had great fixtures and fittings. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the hotel itself is really beautiful and interesting. I wish we could have spent more time there and would liked to have tasted the food as it looked really good...

The primary strength of this hotel is the staff. These are the best people, very well-trained. Our room was just fine, with many pleasant unexpected features. The bed was quite comfortable with a down comforter. We slept well with the window slightly opened since I couldn't figure out the thermostat. Parking is available at a municipal lot a few blocks...

We stayed on Saturday 28th February - a birthday treat. We had upgraded the room and it was lovely. We dropped our bags off in the morning and went sightseeing before coming back to check in late afternoon. Every thing was great. Toiletries in the room - always a bonus when travelling by plane with hand luggage only. We had...

We chose this hotel because it was very near the place we were going on Saturday night. Also, I was keen to try out the restaurant, as I had heard good things about it. It is a lovely hotel, the conversion from a group of very old buildings has been well done, it is central, easy to walk to from...

Very nice hotel. Not quite as nice as some of the other hotels in the group, but lovely all the same. We paid for a small suite and got a free upgrade to a large suite, which was nice. Only gripe is that the shower was cold which meant getting ready for dinner in cold water, but the duty manager...

Stayed here for one night. The check in experience was a little slow but that was perhaps the fault of the guest on front of me who kept asking the very patient receptionist lots of questions. The interior of the hotel is really lovely. The room was also lovely although the feature cushions on the bed were a little tired....

Have eaten at this amazing bistro on six occasions now and love it. The ambience and food are amazing. However on this occasion a well done steak (I know this is alien to many) was visibly pink - which was a pity. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable on wine and the service was speedy. The last time I visited I...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
