I stayed over the weekend with my friend for the Beyonce concert and honestly, I can say, I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel’s staff and location. I was welcomed in by the lovely Matthew, who made the check-in experience very enjoyable and effortless followed by the great F&B staff who were very polite and friendly with us throughout our stay. Coming from a hospitality background, sincerely, I cannot find a fault to this hotel and I will be back whenever I will visit Edinburgh again!

A hotel with everything you need. The staff was wonderful, Matthew checked us in and made us feel immediately welcome and happy. He definitely went above and beyond to make sure everything was ok with our reservation. Also appreciated the pantry being open for late night snacks and wine!

Matthew was a complete joy. Very accommodating and friendly. He assisted with our travel plans to see Beyoncé. His personality and humor made the trip more enjoyable. The hotel lounge food was delicious and the drinks were wonderful. I will return.

1. Hotel Location: We stayed at the Courtyard Edinburgh West Hotel (by Marriott) during a recent trip to Edinburgh, Scotland. The hotel is located on the Edinburgh Campus of Heriot-Watt University, across from the Petroleum Institute. It is about 10 minutes from the Edinburgh airport, 5 minutes on foot from Heriot-Watt University, and 2 minutes’ walk to the Lothian bus station and 30-40 minutes by bus to the famous Price Street and Edinburgh Castle. 2. Facilities of hotel: The 4-star Courtyard Edinburgh West Hotel (by Marriott) welcomes both tourist and business travelers. The hotel has four floors and offers standard double rooms and standard twin rooms. Each standard room is 24m2 in size. We were surprised as soon as we entered the hotel lobby. The interior was warm and inviting. The hotel is cutting-edge as it has a great atmosphere and interior. In addition to comfortable accommodation, the hotel offers its guests a variety of services and activities. It offers a grand lobby with several tables and a large gathering space. The hotel has only one restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The main restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel offers a magnificent view of Edinburgh. We regularly had our daily breakfast in this one and only restaurant. There are three elevators around the restaurant, but there are rarely people in line. Visitors and guests can also leave their vehicles in the free self-service car park which is located opposite to the reception. Finally, the wifi was great and no problems. 3. Nicely Decorated standard double Room with a comfortable King size Bed: The 24m2 standard double is nicely decorated, fragrant, and ornamented. It has a very comfortable extra-large king size bed. The room includes complimentary amenities such as flat-screen TVs, iron, an ironing board, a desk, a safety box, and a small refrigerator. There is also a kettle with free coffee and tea. The hotel upholds excellent hospitality standards and provides high-quality services in accordance with Marriott's high standards. The Room is always kept tidy. However, the sound from the connected room posed a significant discomfort for us. On the other side, I am pleased with how quickly the hotel resolved this issue. This demonstrates the hotel's attention to detail as well as its prompt response. We also had a problem with the "bangs" we heard as the visitor in the room above us walked. Hence, I advise staying on the fourth level and requesting a room without connecting rooms. The size of the bathroom was adequate. Grohe and Ideal Standard fixtures (including the sink, toilet, and shower, among others) are of high quality. There is one sink, a large mirror, a toilet, and a corner rain shower enclosure. The toiletries provided were also adequate but not comprehensive. Body and face towels are provided. The toilet paper and facial tissues are of good quality. The hotel provides high quality and pleasant scent shower gel, shampoo and hair conditioner from Nirvae. Unfortunately, no body lotion, razors, toothpaste, or toothbrushes are provided at the hotel. 4. OK Breakfast Buffet: We tried the breakfast served in the restaurant on the ground floor. Breakfast was served from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on weekends, and from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on weekdays. The food was mostly satisfactory. Muslims may have difficulty obtaining halal meat; however, vegetarian and egg options are available. Because breakfast is the same every day, it is easy to become bored. 5. Excellent staff: The Courtyard Edinburgh West Hotel (by Marriott) provides friendly and efficient service. Check-in and check-out went off without a hitch. The hotel provides competent and timely assistance. Everyone works hard to keep you happy. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Even the smallest details are given careful consideration. They welcomed us with open arms and were extremely friendly. They provide excellent customer service. They were doing it in a dependable, efficient, and precise manner. They were prepared to meet our demands, specifications, and expectations. Employees are extremely friendly, considerate, and accommodating. They will always be willing to assist you. However, there is an issue with the quality of the housekeeping service. The good housekeeping effort was not consistent. Shampoo, for example, has run out but has not been replaced for more than two days. The housekeeping team once collected the used towels and failed to provide new ones. It is undoubtedly true that "It is good people who make good places". Many thanks to the following individuals for your support while I was here: - Leadership: Fiona and (Kris Lukis who has shown excellent service quality and support) - Front desk/receptionists: Kera, Tiya and Varsha - Housekeeping: Michael - Restaurant: Aditya, Pall, Gabor and (Shamy who provided great service equality) 6. In conclusion: Overall, we had a great time and appreciated the Courtyard Edinburgh West Hotel's hospitality. The amenities were excellent, and the location is ideal for those who prefer not to stay in the city center. The accommodations were very comfortable, and the staff was outstanding. We received first class service from everyone. I wholeheartedly recommend staying at The Courtyard Edinburgh West Hotel. It's a wonderful place to relax and enjoy first class service.

I like to relax and watch the world go by in this hotel whilst my son plays for Hearts. However I was applaud at how the extremely rude Manager spoke to his female member of staff whilst I relax. He made the poor excuse that his voice was overpower when I complained. But he was a 100 bully.

Stayed for two nights with my wife and two teenagers. Got a room with two double beds, very comfy and bathroom was huge so plenty of room. Staff at reception and through hotel were very friendly and helpful. Had breakfast in hotel which was standard. Tip for anyone driving into Edinburgh, parking is very expensive on street up to £4.90 an hour but if you use nco on castle street and are visiting castle you can get your parking ticket validated in castle where you get audio guides and cost of parking for up to 5 hours is £12.

Such a friendly and welcoming hotel. From the reception staff, to the restaurant/bar staff and also the duty manager/supervisor; everyone made us feel so welcome. The hotel seemed very well managed and anytime we had any questions, these were dealt with swiftly and with a smile. When we arrived, we needed a replacement remote control for the TV (ours wasn't working) and a member of staff had it sent to the room within minutes. Very impressive! Also, plenty of convenient, free parking outside. The hotel is modern, with a high-end, chiquè and premium feel. The lobby and restauarant are beautifully designed and our room was a comfortable oasis with luxuriously comfy beds. We both particularly appreciated the big screen TV in the bedroom, the effective black-out curtains and also the air conditioning/heating system which rapidly brought our room to whatever temperature we desired. Nothing worse than a hotel room that is either too hot or too cold to sleep in. Well done Marriott! Sadly, the only two reasons we can't give 5 stars is: 1. A lack of privacy in the bathrooms. A few other reviewers have photographed this issue specifically. I know it's fashionable for hotels to separate the bathroom from the bedroom using frosted glass screens, but I really do detest this design choice. I know it creates a spa-like, bright and open plan look to the bedroom (it does look great), but it does this at the expense of privacy. The glass door to our bathroom had a gap of around 2cm around it. I'm laughing while I write this, but my partner and I don't want to expose eachother to the natural sounds of toilet usage lol. Whenever we used the toilet, we'd feel inclined to run the shower, taps or turn up the TV to provide some auditory privacy. You can't do this in the middle of the night though, when someone's sleeping. But then arises another problem, flushing the toilet in the middle of the night (if required!) wakes your partner because the glass bathroom wall and gap around the glass door won't contain the sound of the flush. I can't imagine how awkward this situation might be if you're travelling with a business partner and not just your loved one. The gap around our bathroom door was so wide, it meant that the inbuilt lock wouldn't stretch across to lock the door. I'm not prudish, puritanical or disgusted by toilet-related things and I'm not appalled by bodily functions. But, I am self-conscious, and I think many people are when using toilet facilities where there's very little privacy. If you walked passed the glass door, the gap was wide enough that you could easily have seen your roommate sitting on the toilet. And as I say, there was zero 'auditory' privacy. 2. The pressure of the shower was rather underpowered. I don't know if some kind of flow rate limiting device had been attached for water saving/environmental reasons? Perhaps there are regulations or recommendations for maximum flow rates in hotels, but it was just a little bit too weak for my liking. The water seemed to just trickle down my back, leaving me feeling rather cold standing in the shower cubicle (even if I turned the water temperature up very high). And because the shower cubicle is a 'walk-in' version, this added to the cold, exposed showering experience and water would also easily splash onto the bathroom floor. A very beautiful bathroom that looks very spa-like, but not an enjoyable, sensorial shower to use. Waking up and having a refreshing deluge of warm water is one of the pleasures of staying at a nice hotel but I completely understand that this has environmental and cost implications. But it was nonetheless disappointing how unsatisfying the weak shower jet was. But this is just personal preference of course. Other than that though, I think it's a great hotel and the staff were excellent. I don't know if i'd want to stay in this hotel with my partner again as we really do value privacy in the bathroom. We also do value an invigorating shower experience and not just the weak trickle that reminded us of a basic electric shower (the shower at the hotel wasn't electric of course.) Still, a wonderful hotel experience with fantastic staff and beautiful interior design. I'd recommend it wholeheartedly to travellers. I can't give a 5 star review because that would send a message to Marriott that everything was perfect and I do think at the design stage of hotels, some more thought has to be given to ensuring bathroom privacy.

Dear MartyAndRobert, Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your time with us. I'm so pleased to read that overall you had an enjoyable stay and I will share your feedback with the team. Our bathroom design is not to everyone's taste but we will certainly keep your feedback in mind for any future renovations. As you correctly state our showers do have a small reduction in pressure for environmental purposes but this should not cause such an impact for their use so our maintenance team will review this going forward. Thank you again for your feedback and i do hope we can welcome you back in the future. Best wishes, Fiona Milligan General Manager

Stayed here for two nights whilst through in Edinburgh for the rugby. Hotel was good with nice big room. Is a bit out of town which we knew but had car and hotels in the city centre were so expensive and then would have had car parking on top. The room rate was excellent and parking was free. 2 minute walk to get the 25 bus into town which was £1.80, took around 30 mins and the service was very regular. Had breakfast one of the mornings which I think was £12.50. Good selection of cold/hot drinks, continental and hot buffet. Would stay again

The on-site restaurant is pretty good with reasonable prices. This is a very quiet neighbourhood but it’s just a 5-minute walk to the bus that takes you straight downtown. I was disappointed there is no onsite guest laundry and there are no laundromats nearby. The hotel offers outside laundry service but it’s very expensive.
