The hostel is located up several narrow winding stairs, which is quite difficult if you have a large backpack or suitcase. I called the day before to check if they had free wifi, which they stated that they had. When I arrived they told me the wifi was not working today because of the construction across the street. And it...

Staff were incredibly helpful, allowed me to print my plane boarding passes which I was quite flustered about. It is a cheap hostel and so you cannot expect miracles, but I had a wonderful sleep and could not hear anything from outside my room even though it was a saturday night. Admittedly I was travelling very light and only used...

The whole stay was a god awful experience, i rented my own room at a higher cost and thought you know it must be worth it. it wasn't. the whole place looks like it hasn't changed from the 1980s. Black mould just about everywhere, it was in my room and in every bathroom i used, it had a sense no...

Have to be honest and say this was easily one of the worst hostels I've ever stayed in and I've stayed in my fair share at this stage. On arrival you're greeted with a questionable odour and what seems to be a never ending winding staircase up to the reception. The check in process was awkward and the rubber wristband...

Great staff, but the facilities is in very poor condition and the walls are thinner than your usual hostel. The showers are moldy, which sets the stage for the cleanliness of this hostel. Honestly, you can do better for your money.

Not the best hostel, beds are uncomfortable. Very old building not great looking inside or out. Not the best atmosphere. Main thing about this hostel is its location, very central. Staff are nice and helpful. It's just generally old, run down & desperately needs new mattresses.

When it comes to hostels my expectations are usually fairly realistic (you get what you pay for, right) but this place left me really disappointed. If you don't like to sleep at night then this place is for you. You'll be entertained through the late hours by the booming bass of the bar before, the metallic melodies of the bed...

This a low-budget hostel. I enjoyed my stay here, but I was't expecting much since I knew how little I paid. When booking a room, note that the rooms go "A,B,C . . ." and the further along the alphabet, the further from the front desk you are. I was in "G," but my friends were in "T." Like other...

Fortunately we only spent one night in this hostel before flying back home. We booked a double room for quite a lot of money considering there are B&Bs which may be located further away but are cheaper and definitely cleaner. The whole place looks very run down, the room floor was completely crooked, the bed was uncomfortable and we weren't...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
