Stayed in G&V for second time after good experience last time. Not disappointed. Since out last visit, the lobby and bar have been refurbished to a very high standard. All staff were excellent and our signature room was very good. Cocktails in the new Epicurean bar were first class, and staff were helpful. A really top class bar imho. Didnt...

Arrived late evening to a surprisingly modern hotel lobby. Staff were very good, but did have wait while another customer was dealt with on the phone, same at check out. Need to watch this at busy times. The room was very good, with all the necessary working requirements , including a very good coffee machine. Hymn is adequate if a...

Great location, very central. Beautiful lobby and great bar. Good staff and very efficient at reception. Breakfasts are excellent with a very good choice. Room was a good size although we were given an "accessible room" even though we didn't need one. Pillows were absolutely terrible - the worst ever...full of air and disappeared to nothing once you put your...

Stayed here on a girly weekend, great location on the royal mile. Beautiful modern hotel, very attentive staff. We left our bags early morning and was told we would get a call when our room would be ready, no call! We went back to the hotel at 7pm to get ready for dinner and a maid was in the room...

I'm not sure why this is a 4 or 5 star hotel. There was nothing special about this place and the valet price is an absurd. I stayed for 1 expensive night but choose to move somewhere else the next day. Would not stay here again.

Stayed here twice first time was a let down however they invited us back for my birthday last year and it was amazing! Didn't get a chance to write a review for last year but we stayed in a suite which was newly done out and was amazing! We didn't return this year due to it being a little out...

Firstly - there's absolutely nothing wrong with the staff at this hotel ... from the moment I checked in they were courteous, prompt, and helpful ... and the complimentary G&T during check in was a really nice surprise. My room was adequate but with a few issues (loose mosaic tiles in the bathroom, a faulty ceiling light that left the...

Room spacious, nice bathroom and decor. Nice big bed. Pillows were awful ! No spare pillows in the room either. Check in and out efficient and friendly. Bar in the hotel is nice although a little pricey. The location of this hotel is it's best feature. Very handy for the Christmas markets and the castle. Would stay here again, although...

Very friendly staff throughout from check-in to bar and waiting staff...rooms very comfortable and spacious with premium coffee and teas selection. Large bathroom-shower only- and quality soaps, lotions etc...Robes, slippers etc. If I had to...

Lovely hotel in a central location. The hotel was beautifully decorated with high quality fittings. The afternoon tea we had was very nice and quite unusual. Sadly the experience was spoilt by the service. There was a wedding which seemed to absorb all the staff! We struggled to get into the hotel because they were taking photographs on the steps...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
