Especially loved the music! Great cocktail menu and they were lovely! Chilled out vibe! Bit of luxe but slow service!! Nice atmosphere though, could chill for a while!! 😀 good location and real oasis off the royal mile, cocktails from £7 onwards 😀

Stated here for an evening to celebrate a special birthday. Great location right off the mile and near some nice restaraunts. The staff were very helpful and the hotel sent us some lovey treats to celebrate events. We ate in the restaraunt and whilst the food was nice it was pretty expensive. Steak was good but probably should include a...

What a fantastic hotel. Promptly acknowledged when we walked in, for check in. Escorted to our room and given a tutorial of how to work things in the room. The view is beautiful out of our room. (407). The hotel is centrally located to shops, tourist attractions, and restaurants. We went to Deacon Brodie's Tavern, which was less than a...

This hotel has a prime location just off Princes Street. It has recently been refurbished and the interior is very cool. We were taken up to the spa area and the staff were extremely friendly and highly personable. The massage was fantastic and we loved chilling in the relaxation room. Afterwards we got prosecco and a fantastic 2 course meal...

Disappointed when calling in for an evening drink recently. When I mentioned that my drink was not what I had asked for I received a vague apology, nobody behind the bar was in the slightest bit interested. Will not be back.

I was very impressed by kind and flexible approach of hotel team. My flight was severely delayed and I was not sure whether I was going to make it to the hotel on the day my arrival was scheduled or the following day. I called from the airport to notify the hotel of this delay and ask what I should...

We stayed at the G&V in April 2016. The hotel is in an ideal location within minutes of the castle. The main shopping area is probably a good 10-15minute walk but easily duable. The hotel has many positives: It has lovely decor, is modern and clean. The service from all staff was absolutely impeccable - really they are a credit...

Excellent customer service following adding our children to the booking- thank you! The room was comfortably furnished and suited our needs well. Breakfast was buffet style with a good selection available. All the staff were very helpful and responded to various requests. The only issue was that we had checked car parking was included in the price of our stay...

My second stay at this hotel and it didn't disappoint. It's undergone a refurb since my last stay just over a year ago which has seen some work to the rooms but mainly the public areas including sectioning off the bar area and creating a small cafe area. Warm and friendly staff, lovely stylish rooms with great coffee machines and...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
