A cosy and quiet B&B. The single room was adequate, nice high ceiling and big windows (with shutters). A small sink in the room. The shared bathroom for the two single rooms seemed newly renovated and was very convenient and clean. It had a tiled floor and walls and a shower with good water pressure and was located right across...

The proprietor was friendly, and the breakfast was good. However, I did not like the room. I could feel the bed springs in the bed. The wallpaper is peeling and old. The bathroom is carpeted and there were drips of *something* on the carpet next to the toilet. Overall, the rooms need a facelift and new beds. There was one...

The location is close to the main tourist attractions and nice restaurantes are all in walking distance. If necessary a bus station is right accross the street. The rooms are relatively big, the service is friendly, the breakfast not more than average, limited car park infront of the building. Nothing really to complain about but that for the price you...

Good BnB run by a very friendly and helpful couple. We spent two nights in a calm an very comfortable double room. The breakfast ist average and there is a car park in front of the house. It's well situated, the old town is just a 10 min walk away!

This B&B is very good value, and very central. There are nice restaurants and bars nearby, and walking distance from the main tourist attractions. I stayed there while attending a conference at the Edinburgh Conference Centre, and it was a perfect location, only a few minutes walk. Ruth and Agus (owners) were very helpful and friendly and accommodating to my...

We spent three nights at the Burns Guest House during our trip to Edinburgh in April and there’s absolutely nothing I could complain about. The rooms were very nice and clean (and kept immaculate by our hosts throughout our stay). Mr and Mrs Adji were very helpful and welcoming and provided us with all the information we needed. The guest...

I'm visiting Burns Guesthouse for several years now. For me, it's still a favorite place to stay during my visit to Edinburgh The center can easily be reached within walking distance. Agus and Ruth are working to renovate the interior of the house to improve it much more for their guests. A must for those who are looking for an...

Had a wonderful time staying at the Burns Guest House. Ruth and Agus were excellent hosts. They even made special breakfast accommodations for us so that we could make our early flight. The house is right on the busline. The neighborhood is safe to walk even during the evening. There are some local interesting pubs nearby. The room was clean....

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

“The rooms at the front of the house are a little noisy due to the road, but once you find the shutters, the noise is almost completely blocked out!! Although some rooms don't have an en suite shower, the bathroom is only shared with one other room and has an excellent powerful shower.”
