2023 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Fingal opened in January 2019 in the historic Port of Leith as a unique addition to Edinburgh’s hotel scene following a £5 million development. This former Northern Lighthouse Board ship, begins an exciting new chapter offering beautiful cabins, dining and entertaining space. Developed by The Royal Yacht Britannia, Fingal’s 23 luxury cabins are each named after Stevenson lighthouses, inspired by her rich maritime heritage. Sleek corridors lined with lighthouse images lead to the choice of cabins, from a luxury cabin with access to the deck, a duplex cabin with comfortable living space or the stunning Skerryvore Suite with extensive outdoor space to relax and entertain. Carefully considered design offers the highest specifications of craftmanship and finish, with nautical touches and polished woods. Sumptuous Scottish leathers and the finest linens are in colour palates inspired by Fingal’s journey from land and sea.

We were booked on board for one evening and stayed in the 'Bell Rock‘ room. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was beautiful and very nicely finished off. We had dinner and breakfast and enjoyed both meals. There is a lovely lounge area on the aft end outside the restaurant/lounge area. Facing west it is a nice place to sit in the afternoon and evening. Be warned that Leith docks can be quite cool so you may need to wrap up. The ship is situated 5 minutes walk from the inner dock area where there is also a range of pubs and cafes. Access to to ship is very good with its own private parking area. Bus access is an 8 minute walk where you can then go into Edinburgh. About 150m from the Fingal is a stop for the new tram service which will be in service in the very near future. Access onto the Fingal itself is by a ramp to no problems for folk who have mobility issues. Overall, well worth a visit to stay over or just to eat.

My wife and I booked an overnight stay at Fingal for our anniversary and our stay experience lived up to its 5-Star reputation. The staff were extremely helpful, kind and the breakfast was absolutely fantastic. We arrived a little early to check in so we took advantage of the complimentary tickets to go and visit the Royal Britannia. There are many nods to Fingal's history on the boat so be sure to check out every detail and decoration because it has been very well thought through. Regarding the room we stayed in, words can't describe the level of preparation and cleanliness. A stay you won't believe until you experience it yourself!

We have just spent our Golden Wedding /Special birthday celebrations aboard The Fingal and will always remember the kindness and attentiveness shown to us. From the greetings at reception to the excellent service from every member of staff . Everyone puts you at ease and the little touches like Callum helping us work out the coffee machine to Anthony and the young lady at reception for helping us plan our day. Dining service staff are excellent , as are the backstage staff. A Ship Shape crew indeed. A unique experience for us. Bless you all x .

Booked a 2 night stay for our anniversary, this was our first visit to Fingal and it certainly won’t be our last. We arrived a bit early but this wasn’t a problem the staff on reception managed to get us into our cabin without delay. Cabin was perfect, the layout is a bit quirky but this just adds to the charm of the Fingal. Ate in the Lighthouse restaurant on our first night and the food and service was faultless. Looking forward to coming back soon.

The experience was wonderful all around. I recommend staying here over any place in Edinburgh. So unique, service outstanding, and so great to get tickets to the queen’s yacht with ability to walk to it. This was truly a highlight of our 12 day Ireland/Scotland trip.

A wonderful experience. Beautiful rooms, nothing about your stay feels corporate, more boutique and unique. Gorgeous restaurant which is a must if you’re staying or just live in the area, food is superb. Even the breakfasts were cooked to order, fresh and tasty. The big sound out were the staff, all of them. We were made to feel special and at each point everyone gave an exceptional personal service. This is a visit you will never forget and as a global frequent traveler I can’t recommend the Fingal enough.

After a very difficult 6 months, I decided my husband and I needed a treat. Oh my goodness did this fit the bill! I have worked in the hotel industry and stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world. This has risen to my joint favourite (The Fairmont Banff in Canada being the other). Loved the very professional but friendly staff, the high quality of .. everything. Loved the extra touches - the complimentary shortbread, Tunnocks tea cakes and highland spring water and the very special Fingal truffles. And the shower…. spotless, large walk in and luxurious. With the Noble Isle toiletries (full size that you can purchase, not fiddling little travel sizes!), it was just wonderful! I booked a classic cabin but was offered an upgrade for a modest sum. Beautifully furnished - slept really well. Superb breakfast with locally sourced ingredients. From start to finish - a proper treat. Thank you Fingal Crew - we hope to see you again!

Brought my husband here for 2 nights to celebrate his 60th birthday. It was exceptional in every way. We enjoyed dinner on both evenings in the Lighthouse restaurant and had afternoon tea before we left. I returned a few weeks later with my sister and my mum to celebrate her birthday with afternoon tea once again. The staff go above and beyond to make sure that everyone and everything is just perfect. Thank you so much. We shall definitely return.
