Nice welcome, clean and comfy! Can be a little noisy, but it didn't bother us too much. Very central and a great Italian a few doors down for breakfast etc. Taxi rank across from hotel - not very regular, best to walk down to the Balmoral.

First off, every single person that we encountered in the 3 nights we stayed there were amazing. Friendly, helpful, accommodating. They were awesome. The location is excellent too. It's just down the street from Calton Hill. literally right across the street from Rabbie's, where most of the Rabbie's tours leave from. It's a 7-10 minute walk to the Royal Mile....

Waterloo Place Travelodge, Edinburgh is just the place to stay in Edinburgh city centre after arriving late at night. Clean, tidy, and a reasonable price. no breakfast available but plenty of places anearby to get a quick bite in the morning - so no problem.

5 of us Stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate my nieces 18th birthday, couldn't fault the location, easy walking distance to theatre, shops, transport, pubs. The rooms were immaculate and the staff were extremely helpful and cheery. I will definitely be booking to stay here again. The only faults with the room is the fact that there is no...

Stayed in a family room for 4 nights. The hotel is in a good central location - easy to access buses trains and trams. There were building works going on opposite but our room was well sound proofed and there were no noise issues from traffic etc. The staff here were outstanding: friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We stayed on the...

This is the 3rd time we have stayed here on a short stay with my parents and extended family. the location couldn't be better......5 minutes from Waverley Station and 5 minutes walk into the centre of town. This Travelodge doesn't have a restaurant, but there are 2 local cafe's within 1 minute that open about 8am where we had breakfast...

Small fronted Travelodge in a listed building close to all amenities. Extremely helpful staff. No adjoining eatery (vending machine only) but plenty nearby. Very clean room which was a bit smaller than usual probably owing to the fact that the building is listed and only so much wall removal allowed. Great location for the rail and bus stations, theatre and...

The staff were really friendly and you can leave your bags at the hotel after check out so you can go and see the sights. About 2 mins from Edinburgh Waverley so very central. Even though it's on a busy road the windows are really good so you don't hear the traffic. Would recommend

In our opinion, our recent travelodge experience was the best in edinburgh; with friendly staff and gorgeous rooms waiting for you to enter. If you are an impatient sightseer, be ready to be mesmerised all over - this lodging will provide a shorter amount of pacing and more of the actual 'seeing and learning'. In addition, welcoming you from just...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
