Spent time here due to my husband having surgery in a local hospital. The staff were smart friendly and efficient. The bus stop for the Western General Hospital is just a few yards away at the Waverly Steps. With three buses running every few minutes and taking approx. 15mins, it was ideal for me. Handy for everything, shops restaurants &...

Had a great 2 night stay at Waterloo Place. Really convenient location, close to shops restaurants buses and trains and just a short walk to the castle and Royal Mile. The hotel was clean and tidy and well presented. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

Hotel is no frills but is central, clean and well priced. Staff were great! Very comfy double bed - slept like logs! No restaurant, but plenty of places nearby to eat. If you want hot breakfast call in at Pep and Fodder next door. Again, it's basic, but good value.

Was only there for a few hours, but it's a central location and the room was clean and co.fortable. Staff were friend fly enough - I didn't arrive until after 11pm, but someone was on duty to sort me out and when I left in the morning another member of staff offered advice on rush hour travel to the airport.

Great location just off Princes Street made it walking distance from all of Edinburgh's main attractions, clean rooms, friendly staff and all for a very reasonable price. Would definitely reccomend this hotel.

allocated a small back room which was adequate for a 1 night stay but would be cramped for longer - hopefully more spacious rooms available. Very central location near to eateries, theatre, train station & links to airport and bus routes.

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed at this hotel, the location is perfect, you're literally a stones-throw from all of the city's attractions, and if the attractions aren't in walking distance (i.e Zoo) the bus stops are on the doorstep! The hotel is ideal, and if booked early enough pretty reasonable too. No fuss, clean...

We stayed here for two nights during a weekend break. Basic hotel as expected but was clean throughout and all staff were most helpful and polite. It is centrally located for all the local attractions, restaurants and bars. Would definitely stay again.

Excellent hotel and value for money, however stay was spoilt as receptionist informed there was no problem parking outside the hotel as long as i parked on single yellow lines and paid to park. I parked as per her instructions only to find I had been given a parking ticket in the morning for not parking in designated bays. So...

Brilliant hotel. 3 minute walk from the station on main street. Easy and convenient to all shops and points of interest. Clean tidy no issues what so ever. Left cases for 3 hours after checkout until train arrived and was welcome too.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
