Most of the reviews on trip advisor have nailed this hotel – both the good and the bed. This hotel is a bit of a conundrum. It is truly beautiful, and does have many of the white glove elements of a waldorf. That having been said, there is certainly some disappoint with the hotel and room as well. Upon check...

Upon my 3rd return to The Caledonian, I can say without a doubt my very high expectations were exceeded! Manager Dean McVey handled my request with professionalism and superior customer service. WE HAD STAYED IN THE CALEDONIAN Suite Back in 2014 when we toured Scotland with our 4 children. This stay didn't include such luxurious accommodations, but the service, staff,...

From the warm greeting when we arrived, to the early breakfast the day we left the 3 nights we stayed at the Caledonia were the highlight of our 30th anniversary trip. The hotel is so delightful as the renovations done to bring the Caledonia to a 21st century hotel kept the historical interest of the original design. We were very...

Totally above expectations, rooms were Clean and well maintained as you'd expect, the bar is a minefield, some staff can pull a proper pint, some try their best, the menu looks great and staff friendly and overly attentive.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
