The location of this hotel is great, everything about this hotel is just great! Yes it does get some bad reviews about been a little dated and tired, yes it is, it's also a very old building! The staff are so helpful and friendly, everything about this stay was perfect in every way. It was my wife's birthday and they...

From the time we arrived until the time we left we could not faulty the hotel or the staff. Customer service was taken to a whole new level. Check-in was effortless, our luggage was taken to the room while we finished the process. When we got to our room we were disappointed not to have a castle view, my husband...

This is a mixed review on this hotel, simply because we booked here for a treat when we would normally stay in Tigerlily. We decided on a family weekend away with kids and love Edinburgh so this was a perfect location as a base to get about seeing everything. Upon arrival our room wasnt ready, we were advised to call...

Stayed here for one night in room 426. Hotel and lobby are very impressive. We booked a delux double. We were advised that we were given an upgrade. But thats the bit I am not sure about. As the next room type seems to be premium and they all have king or queen sized beds and ours was very much...

Fabulous hotel with a great bar for whisky in the Caley bar, barman very knowledgable and part of the evening with explanations about the range of scotch. The communal areas and restaurant for breakfast are good and the staff are excellent. Paid 170 a night and for the position and quality worth it, only slight downside was my room and...

The hotel and its environs are beatifully restored and have an understated elegance. Service is superb. The rooms are very comfortable. The bars and restaurants are first rate in every way. Unless you're on a budget, and maybe even if you are, I highly recommend this lovely hotel in the heart of a truly great city.

We picked this hotel for my wife's parents 65th Wedding Anniversary. The hotel pulled out all the stops to make sure this was truly a special weekend for them. Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
